3.2 Nearly everything you would want in an IPA. High alcohol content that you can taste, rich hoppiness, not too thick.
3.6 Pleasant - not exciting - more malt than herbal hops - slightly rough edge to this one - nice bitterness but falls away quickly. For me this is an amped up Brit Bitter - Sixpoint Bengali Tiger is a similar style but way more outstanding IMHO.
3.4 Pours a cloudy copper, minimal head. Aroma is ripe citrus. Smooth and soft on the palate. Definite hop finish. Chewy and bready, a lot of body. Has some odd notes for an IPA, but overall, I like it the variations and the body. (updated rating when I could see it in context of my other IPA ratings - strictly speaking, as an IPA it should rate lower, because it’s off-type; but, it gets this rating because it’s pretty drinkable).
4.0 Had it out of a bottle. pours a murky amber hue with a thin head Has a sour hop aroma and a solid malt IPA taste
2.7 Another old IPA at the Millvale beer Fest. Lovely. Just a malt bomb. Need to try again because the backbone isn't bad.
3.4 355mL bottle. Pours slightly cloudy light amber with a sweet tropical fruit aroma. Big bitter kick with a nice floursome zesty citrus, grapefruit specifically, hit. Not bad at all.
3.2 Bottle. Cloudy amber with an inch of white head that never quite disappears. Aroma of over-ripe grapefruit, Butter Menthols, peach. Sweet and fruity - peaches, grapefruit, orange - dries out a lot and is quite woody and herbal at the quite aggressive bitter finish. A bit burning there too. Odd, worth another look.
3.3 Location/Date:Bottle on July 19th, 2013. Appearance: Pours an orange cloud. Aroma: Aroma of grapefruit. Taste:Medium light bitter, grapefruit, a lot of malt backbone. Palate:Medium, slightly sticky. Summary: A little overbalanced on the malt side for the IPA style.
3.6 Orange, dirty orange.Light head, slight lace. Biscuity, malty, carmamel aroma with some fruit maybe floral.Somewhat complex hop aroma but mildish. Taste is busciuty bready with caramel malt, hoppy middle, hoppier finish, piney bittering-pretty strong. Has some mintyness, pine.Light fruit. Pretty good ipa.
3.3 Bottle. actually pretty nice and hoppy, solid malt backbone and finishes well.
2.9 October 2011. Bottle. Orange amber color with a white head. Not much in terms of structure and balance. Some caramel flavors blended with citrus.
2.2 Bottle. Pours a hazy orange-tan color with a smallish white head. Nose is hoppy and bitter, but smells like the hops have turned. Taste is bitter, but tastes old. Sat on the shelf too long. Meh.
2.9 Aroma is citrus, toffee/caramel sweetness and a hint of vegetables/spices. The flavor is citrus, medium malts sweetness and vegetables and spices in the finish.
3.4 Bottle. Deep hazy brown color. Hoppy with a rye aftertaste. Nice balance in the flavor. Really good
3.1 Single bottle. Pours a hazy copper with minimal head. Mild lacing. Nose is dominated by malt with some floral hops. Hop character seems a little trampled by the malt. Some peculiar sweetness in the finish. Overall, not bad but kind of an awkward IPA.
2.9 Pretty straight-forward ipa with some red ale characteristics. Not bad, not great.
3.3 Nice looking, bright orange, hazy. Nose is mild pine forest. Nose starts with a bit of malt, the middle has plenty of hops, that give way to a clean finish with a bit of lemon.
3.1 Bottle sample at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Thanks Tom. Pours yellow to orange with a nice head, aroma of marmalade, some, skunk, flavor is bitter with orange and marmalade, medium bodied
2.8 On tap. Pours a golden amber with a small white head that has decent retention and leaves some light lacing on the glass. The aroma is caramel, light grapefruit, orange, and some light floral notes. The taste is sweet orange, sugar cookie, and some light grapefruit. Finish has a decent bitterness with a lingering orange sweetness. Medium body. Medium carbonation. A bit too sweet.
3.0 Bottle sample at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Thanks Tom. Hazy orange. Aroma of floral and citric hops, kinda stale. Flavor has light sweetish maltiness and a bitter and slightly grapefruity finish. Medium-bodied.
3.1 Pint at Tylers Apex. Good aroma, sweet. Orange, floral hops, clean golden orange color. Ok head, no lace. Bittersweet flavor. Light body smooth creamy mouthfeel, bitter finish. Nice aroma, got dull after that.
3.1 Bottle. Orange pour with a white head. Floral and grapefruit hops - tastes a bit better than it smells.
3.6 Bottle. Nice head, nice toasted flavor. Certainly caramel, roasty, sweetness. Hops stand out, but arent the usual citrus, more of a bitter flavor. Rather strong alchohol finish. Not too bad, I can dig it. They need to work on the name though, way too much description. This beer is called the "Mad River Brewing Co Jamaica Brand Sunset India Pale Ale." No beer should be ten words long.
4.2 Loved this IPA. Big floral nose. Nice reddish/orange color with sticky white lacing. Great bitter finish.
3.5 This is a pretty good IPA. It pours a cloudy golden color, and is floral and fruity from hops. I doesn’t really stand out, but it’s not a bad beer.
2.8 Sweet, floral, herbal aroma, and a rust-colored pour. I wasn’t sure why the label said Jamaica Brand as well as Mad River until I read the RB description. Are they trying to get a little too cute? Sunset tastes dry, acidic, and a little vegetal and metallic. Not bad, but not the best.
3.4 Hoppy aroma. Smooth, somewhat sweet, with a hops base and a bit of honey, brown sugar, and malt. Lightly floral with some fruit and earthiness.
2.9 Short lived, thin, off white head. Hazy, chunkulative, copper/gold hued ale. Notes of finger nail polish, faint citrus and caramel malts. Body is medium, lazy carbonation, lil oily. Citrus, orangey flavors with something of a a lightly sweet malt balance. Fruity, dry finish. Nobody home. Bottle from statelineliquors.
3.1 Hazy amber/orange color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of sweet malt, floral hops, some caramel, & citrus; Flavor of slight sweet malt, caramel, pine hops, and citrus (notably orange); Finish is slightly bitter; Overall, came across a bit bland.
3.8 nice sweet caramel malt with fruit punch, broom straw and citrus ipa flavors well balanced and nicely powerful. nice aroma as described and a bit of wood in the mix. good beer.
