Circus Boy — THE Hefeweizen

Unfiltered and unfettered, Circus Boy is a unique and refreshing American-style Hefeweizen. Is he a who? Or a what? Or perhaps some of both? Be amazed by the flavorful haze of this wonderful wheat beer.

Editor’s note: Yes, the bottle calls it a hefeweizen. The beer, however, is brewed with a (fairly hefty) portion of lemongrass, which contributes a significant aroma and flavor. Thus we have deemed it a Spice/herb/vegetable and not a German Hefeweizen, which should be free from adjuncts (other than hops).

2.6 Wheat, lemon, spice, zest, peel. Resin and malt with lots of spice. It has a miller vibe to it...
3.0 Smells like a hefeweizen, taste is smooth and light lemon zest...light bitterness...finishes lightly sweet...some complexity but mostly lemongrass flavor...fourth of July 2017 at home with Megan
2.8 Pretty standard hefe. Lots of lemon taste in an otherwise thin hefe style beer. Just fine.
2.9 Poured from a bottle. Frothy white head. Pale yellow in color. Taste is what I would expect from a hefe. Not amazing but pretty damn good. Would purchase it again.
3.2 On tap. Golden in color with an average sized creamy white head. Faint aroma of citrus and spices. Mostly sweet with some banana notes. Light bodied. Not bad.
2.9 Didn’t really stand out as a great beer, average has a nice pour fair head good lacing wouldn’t get it again.
2.6 12oz bottle from the state store Pours clear golden with a small white head that dissipates quickly, light lacing. Aroma of banana, cloves and wheat. Flavor of lemon, wheat, bitter and dish towel Drinkable, barely
3.4 Bottle. It pours a pale yellow color with a white head. The aroma is sweet and lemony with strong lemongrass notes. The flavor has some decent wheat malt and more intense lemongrass. Pretty sweet and simple. Only light hints of hefeweizen yeast. Kinda boring but refreshing by the poolside.
2.7 Poured pale gold with a bubbly head that quickly disappeared. Faint orange aroma. Taste is oranges and orange zest. Didn’t have the crisp-wheaty-citrusness that I expected from the style. Decent, but there are better hefes out there.
2.9 I poured it from the bottle into a glass. The aroma is banana, spice, and wheat. The taste is banana, spice, and wheat. While cold, it’s fairly crisp and refreshing. There is nice carbonation. It is not a great interpretation of the style though.
2.5 Pours a clear deep amber with a huge head of white foam. Not much aroma or flavor. Pretty ordinary and Blah!
2.8 Pours a medium yellow. Aromas of grains and grass. Flavor was kind of strange, lots of grainy flavor and a little hops.
3.2 A very citrusy take on a hefe so I'm not sure how close it exactly is. But it's got a refreshing flavor to it that's quite a bit different from the norm.
3.1 Not bad , though little bit strange hefeweizen. Cloudy , yellow color. Aroma of grain , banana , lemongrass. Sweet, fruity taste with touch of bitterness at the end.
3.3 Not a bad beer. I tend to really like Hefeweizens, but this doesn’t strike me as a great hefe or even as something that could really be called a hefe at all. Drink something else if that’s what you’re looking for specifically, but Magic Hat tends to do silly things a lot and I think their beer has kind of fallen off in the last few years as a result.
2.4 Drinkable but not quality to style. Not hazy enough. Nice color. Taste is weak. Bottle
5.0 This is my favorite beer. I don’t like a lot of banana in my beer so that’s a plus to me. The citrus notes go well with the lemongrass. Its a lighter beer and I refer to it as a thirst quencher.
2.8 12 oz bottle. Pours a yellow golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is grain, some banana. Taste is grain, lemon, some spices. Nothing impressive.
3.9 Mild lemon aroma. A hazy golden body with a light white head. A gentle lemon taste with a hint of bitterness. Clean refreshing finish. Light bodied.
2.7 12oz bottle. Pretty unimpressive aroma for the style...grainy, doughy, not much banana or clove, more along the lines of an American Wheat. And it’s filtered...so maybe a Kristalweizen? The lemongrass is not a bonus, giving it a perfume-like artificial tinge. Drinkable, but pretty shabby overall.
2.6 Pours a light golden color with a weak white head. A crisp lemon taste with a subtle citrus finish. Not a great imitation or rendition.
2.2 Bottle. Hazy yellow color, medium white head. Aroma of white pepper and cereal. Taste is peppery grain.
3.4 This beer has very little aroma. It is a very smooth beer. The aroma and color are lacking but the taste makes up for it.
3.5 This is a rather exceptionally bready tasting brew. It’s cloudy orange w/ a long lasting white head and great big splotches of lace. It smells like bread yeast and flour w/ a hint of herbal grassiness. The texture is nice and juicy thick w/o being sweet or heavy and w/ creamy carbonation. This richness seems to bring out a bit of banana and an ever-so-slight touch of tart lemon. I think I prefer my hefes w/ a stronger banana character but this has the texture spot-on which is rare to find so definitely worth a try for fans of the style.
2.1 i had this years ago and never had any desire to have it again..so we’ll leave it at that...
2.3 20.02.2015. 0,355l Bottle. Bread & Butter, New York. Pale yellow colour with white head. Rather thin beer with a light hoppy aroma. Not much that reminds me of a hefeweizen here. Thin body. Aftertaste is a thin floral bitter lemon ending, that leaves a sour aroma of lemon in my mouth.
1.8 Felt like a hefe the other day and got this. My bad. I could handle a lemongrass spiced hefe, but this is just a shit beer. Looks filtered though it’s not. Aroma and taste is the hefe yeast version of malty cardboard, and an additional off was that in no way shape or form can you tell is supposed to be lemongrass. Not getting finished.
2.7 12 Fl. Oz. bottle. Poured cloudy, amber, huge fizzy white head and sediment floating all around. Aroma of citrus fruit (lemon), grains, clove and some malts. Taste is consistent, crisp, lemongrass notes, spices and some grain notes. Overall an OK brew.
3.3 Super carbonated, lighter than a hefeweizen with interesting if expected grassy and lemony notes throughout, this is quite drinkable even if, as always, it’s got an overhopped finish
1.2 355ml bottle. I feel like magic hat rates are rates for rating’s sake. Doesn’t look remotely close to a hefeweizen. Smell is insanely light bread crust. Almost no scent. Flavor is wheaty, mineral water, plastic, some fruit notes. This is an abomination.
