Magic Hat Dream Machine IPL

Magic Hat Dream Machine IPL

Dream Machine, an India Pale Lager or IPL, is a melding of varied visions of an India Pale Ale and an Amber Lager. Once poured, its light copper color delights the eyes and a citrusy hop aroma flows through the nose. Upon first sip, a smooth hop bitterness reveals itself - fresh, bold and slightly spicy - before subtle hints of mild maltiness appear. A big hop bite and a crisp, clean lager finish combine for a beautifully balanced beer. Take Dream Machine for a spin and let your reverie begin.

2.1 Pours clear and light gold with virtually no head. Aroma is sweet apricots and peaches. Flavor again has the fruity apricot feel but with a bitter tinge on the backside. A little to bitter in my opinion.
2.8 Pours a clear amber color with minimal aroma of grass and citrus. Some grain flavor with sweet malts and citrus. Not much hop bitterness.
3.1 Draught @ Albion. Clear amber color with small beige foamy head, malt aroma, medium carbonation, crisp malt taste with slight bitterness at the end, abrupt finish. Not a very inspiring example.
3.6 Draft. Not bad, one of the better beers I’ve had from MH. Floral and peppery hop nose and flavors, clean malts, semi-dry finish.
2.8 Average smell, can’t see in bottle, very average taste, balanced, not too hoppy..less than I thought, smooth but uneventful
2.6 Ok IPL - not very hoppy or aromatic. I expected more. Spices barely noticable. Same goes for hops. Crisp taste but not to my liking.
3.3 Its time to rally at the bottom of the 9th. This beer can bring you home with that aroma and palate.
3.1 Bottle from SJ trade. This wasn’t too bad. Body was a tad thin for my tastes, but nice notes of grass, hop, and caramel malt.
3.8 12 oz pour from refrigerated bomber into Boulevard stemmed tulip glass. Nice white head that lasted fairly long and left lots of lacing. Between clear and opaque light brown/amber. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy. Earthy nose. Great bitterness. Floral and earthy with a little orange candy. Good aftertaste.
3.9 Wygląd czysty lagerowy, ze świetną pianą. W aromacie słodowy i lekko cytrusowy. Mocno wysycony. Pilsnerowa goryczka na amerykańskich chmielach. Super. Świetne piwo.
2.3 12 oz bottle, gift from my sister. This is a nice and clear amber color with a small ring of a white head. Aroma is underwhelming. Yeah, it’s fairly hoppy but in a metallic and grassy way. Sweet malts give balance and lager yeast adds some vegetal notes. This tastes like a poorly overhopped bock to me. It’s sweet, bready and malty with metallic hints and a weird, faint Bud-Light type sourness to it. Could be acetaldehyde, could be something else. Talk about a clunky and unenjoyable lager. The finish is sweet, vegetal, grassy, sweaty, chalky and metallic. I’m trying to ignore the misnomer IPL on the label, and I still don’t care for this one. See Ballast Point/Sierra Nevada for how to correctly do a hopped up lager.
4.1 Solid, and smooth as befits this style. That said, this is more of an "APL" -- not as hoppy as it should be.
2.8 Bottle pour into goblet. Aroma of bread and raisins, plums. Minimal head doesn’t stick around long but leaves some lacing behind. Color is amber/orange. Taste is slightly bitter but not really much worthy of note. A bit sour on the finish. Low carbonation and thin with a light to medium heft. Not bad but not outstanding in any way.
2.8 Bottle picked up at Tops Niagara Falls. Clear golden colour with quite a few floaties, massive white fluffy head and lace. Nose is a crisp Pilsner malt like smell. Tastes sweet, malty, a little corn like, sugary, and bitterness mainly in the finish.
3.6 Bottle from Sprout’s: Appeared a glowing yellow liquid that was hazy and had a thin layer of foam head. Aroma is mild with whiffs of green hop pellets that give off scents of perfume and pine. The flavor delivers a slight bitterness from a modest hopping but the grainy bread like malts are what made for a pleasant drink.
3.0 12oz bottle. Pours a melon orange with a decent head of tight white bubbles. Aroma is hoppy and light sweetness. I’d guess this to be a mild IPA if I didn’t already know the lager component. Flavors are more IPA than amber lager... although there is some bready notes that get overwhelmed. Creative but I think the two styles are better on their own.
3.5 Floral, citrus and hop aroma, a great looking beer clear copper color with a thick lasting creamy head. Tastes more like an IPA than a lager. Medium body with a taste of hops and a hint of grain. Dry chalky finish.
3.0 Bottle poured a brown in color with a thin layer of white head. Aroma has some malt, dusty hops, yeasty, and light bitterness. Mouth feel is medium light with low side carbonation. Flavor has a bigger malted side than expected, flowery hops, growing bitterness, and some caramel.
2.6 This beer has a bit of make and hop balance. The problem is that it's too watery and the flavor feels almost secondary. As a light drinking beer it's decent without the substance to overpower your palate
2.4 This was not good. The color was totally off, smell was yeasty. The hops were overwhelmed by the doughy yeast stale grain flavor of the beer. It was free. I only took a few sips.
1.4 355ml. Hazed amber pour, crappy head. Literally smells liek it originated from europe. Stale as can be. Stale cracker and lime zest. Flavor is aspriny and bitter, pine sol, acridness. This is putrid.
2.6 Bottle, gold pour, white head, nose is lacking, taste is slightly lemon, weak, meh
(Rating #6032)
3.3 pours hazy golden orange with a nice small off-white cap, some retention and lacing. lightly toasted malted base - some sweetish caramel, lagering fruity notes - oranges and apricots, few pine, coffee grinds and citrus. light carbonation, light body - oily, balanced and almost crisp grassy-spicy-citrusy finish. more than decent ipl.
3.6 pours a slightly murky gold with a medium bubbly off white head. Aroma is light malt, hay, and slight floral. Tastes crisp at first, then the nice hop bitterness kicks in. Pleasant hoppy linger. Good beer.
3.1 This beer pours a slightly hazy orange color with a large white head. The subtle aroma blends breast malts and some citrus and earthy hops. The taste is slightly bitter and slightly sour with an aftertaste that has a very light hop flavor. The palate fuses a thick texture, medium body, and an average carbonation.
3.2 Hazy golden orange with a nice foamy sticky head. Light citrus aroma, some kind of weird cardboardy thing. Flavour is more cardboard, wet paper, fruity hops there but it’s not ideal
3.3 12oz bottle. Large off-white head atop murky amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, orange, bread. Taste is medium sweet, orange, some tangerine, grapefruit, white pepper. Light-medium body, some crispness.
3.4 35.5cl bottle at The Great Beer Experiment in Singapore. Amber colour with a small white head. Aroma of citrus and pine. Flavours of citrus, lemon/grapefruit, pine, hops. Bitter floral pine finish. A nice session beer.
3.0 From a bottle. Pours a light amber with an off white head. Aroma is caramel, pine, citrus. Flavor is light sweet malt, bitter pine and citrus. A medium body with a bitter pine sap finish. Decent beer.
