Magic Hat Elder Betty

Magic Hat Elder Betty

A golden haze for a summer’s daze. Elder Betty is a weiss-style ale with a bready malt flavor balanced by a touch of hops and complimented by the tart berry flavors of elderberry.

3.4 Dark berry aroma with some bready notes. A hazy light orange amber pour with a thin white ring and no lacing. A blast of elderberry flavor to begin with followed by wheat and some hints of bread. Medium-light body and fizzy carbonation. Overall, this was better than I expected. I found it refreshing and would drink again.
0.9 Fucken nasty grape kool-aid flavor kids beer. Wat. The. Fuck. This would be best served at a kids 5th birthday party.
3.3 Pours cloudy and golden. Aroma hints at fruit and malt. Light with subtle berry flavor.
2.5 Flavor is much better than the aroma. Aroma is a bit skunky and the flavor flavor is fruity and delicious.
3.2 Hazy purple amber color. Pleasantly cloudy as expected. Modest berry flavor, but to the tart side.
3.3 12 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy orange amber thin off white head. Aroma is floral and slightly hoppy. Flavor is slight wheat with subtle berry. Rather lite. I am not big on the Weiss, but this is nice. Not an odd "specialty beer". I would buy a case of this in the summertime.
2.8 12 oz. bottle multiple times. Most recently from Market Basket. Copper/ amber color with thin head that dies fast. Elderberries always have had a medicinal and tea -like quality to it. This beer displays the same thing. The flavor has a good malt backbone of toffee and pale honey like flavor with the tea and berry lingering slightly after the finish. A very light bitterness comes from the herbal medicinal note that come from the berry. Body is very light with a soft carbonation. Overall drinkable.
2.7 Pours a bit hazy, yellow-gold in color, fizzy white head that dissipates quickly. The nose is very fruity; some breadiness. Fairly sweet. Light bodied. Soft carbonation. Didn’t suck.
1.8 Hazy golden straw color. Zero head. Nice aroma sorta herb like slightly musty In a good way. Taste is pretty flat slightly bitter low notes of berry and citrus. Not a fan.
3.0 12oz bottle 7/18/14 (Jewel Mix A Six)-42° in Shaker-Pours a hazy gold with no head. Aroma of wheat, berry and funk. Taste of I suppose elderberry. This light bodied brew is not bad but not the best.
2.1 Bottle: Burnt-ish amber, moderately hazy & topped with a slightly dingy white, chunky foam. Aroma has some lightly tart wheat & berry notes. Slightly medicinal but not nearly as bad as Magic Hat’s #9. Not sure what elderberries smell like, but this just has a generic "berry" vibe on the nose. Mild graininess. Taste is the same, but light. More wheat with underlying tart berry. A touch metallic & medicinal, but not completely enough to kill the beer. Sharp yeast finish, a touch of astringency, berry, more clumpy wheat. This is not really a good beer.
3.1 12oz bottle. Aroma is of sweet fruit with a malt funk. Appearance is a hazy gold. Taste is weird at first then steels into a nice berry flavor. Kinda weak. Palate is normal. Overall, a refreshingly decent beer.
3.4 Bottle by the pool. Poured a little and its cloudy yellow. Sweet aroma malty. Sweet blueberry, raspberry, and i suppose elderberry. Tangy and refreshing. Malt heavy with a funky bitter aftertaste. Well balanced fruit beer.
3.5 Nice light berry aroma with a wheaty slight barnyard funk base. Taste is a hint of berry, and then maybe grassy and wheaty. Has good flavor for a lighter beer and is quite refreshing. Pretty well balanced. This is a solid one from magic hat and I didn't have high expectations.
3.3 Very fruity and sweet tasting thanks to the elderberries with some malted wheat and mild citra-hoppiness. Decent.
3.0 Had elder Betty in variety pack from food lion for 2014 July 4th. Light beer, sweet aroma and taste of wheat beer. Not bad for a hot day.
3.1 Pours a cloudy yellow. Smells mild bitterness and berry. A nice relaxin refreshing beer. Berries aren't too strong. Almost forgettable.
2.8 Sweet and aromatic, with a purple elderberry hue. Juicy on the palate, a little sweet, and refreshing.
3.6 Bottle: Pours a cloudy yellow with a solid, big white head. Aromas are fruity... I guess Elder Berries, but I’m not sure what that smells like. Berry nice flavor with great wheat notes, and the tart berries pulling through it all. Love this beer. Fruity...but delicious.
3.4 Drank from a twelve ounce bottle. This is one of my favorite Magic Hat brews. Amazing berry aromas but not overpowering. Nice smooth beer with a hint of bitterness from the hops!
2.6 Poured from a bottle. Clear yellow color, small white head. Mild blueberry smell. Light body with a light sweet blueberry flavor and a light finish.
2.9 (12oz bottle) Pours a hazy yellow body with a small white head. Aroma of elderberry, wheat, and minerals. Flavor of elderberry, whip cream, muffins, blueberries, and caramel.
3.3 12oz bottle - pours a hazy gold with fluffy white head . Prominent berry aroma . Light body . Taste is mildly tart berry flavor with soft finish . Ok .
3.2 Not bad at all! Very good golden pour w/ a big white head that leaves a ring of lacing. The aroma is subtle but has a nice berry undertone to it. The taste is fairly plain w/ that little hint of berry in there. It’s easy on the palate w/ a touch of bitterness in the finish. Decent.
3.8 Aroma, sour fruit: raspberry, BlackBerry. I’m not familiar with elderberry bourbon guessing that’s what I’m smelling. App: cloudy yellow, Small white head. Taste: airy, sweet and sour, plum, wheat. Not pasty at all for a wheat beer. Feel: above average carbonation, Very nice. Yea, magic hat.
3.7 Transfer from BA review from 6-7-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – It pours a hazy deeper golden color with a huge, thick white head. The head has quite good retention and slowly fades to give a light to medium amount of lacing. Smell – The aroma is rather interesting. It has a yeast and doughy with some lemon and elderberry smell with a somewhat funky aroma. There is a somewhat bitter aroma mixed in as well; the aroma is overall somewhat satisfying. Taste – The taste is light elderberry and dough up front mixed with a lighter citrus flavor. These flavors form a base for the brew lasting the entire taste experience. The lemon flavor remains the same in the taste, while the elderberry seems to intensify more toward the middle. At the end, the yeasty doughy flavors really gets rather strong and mix with a somewhat bitter lemon and funky flavor which linger on the tongue for quite some time. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is slightly above average with a carbonation level being on the average side. The body is quite nice for the doughy taste with the carbonation good for the citrus flavors. Very fitting for the brew. Overall – This was a rather interesting beer. A little different, but good none the less.
3.1 Bottle at home. Pours clear orange with a small, fizzy white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is elderberry, cookie and biscuit malt with light fruity esters. Flavor is fruity esters and hops, light bitterness, coriander, spicy wheat malt and a sweet finish. Light body and medium carbonation.
2.8 Pours a nice rich golden. Smell is artificial berry and malt. light smell. taste is similar with fake berries but sweeter a bit. Light malt and not really any bitterness to speak of. Tastes ok, but a bit fake and sweet. Medium body light carbonation. One time buy here.
3.1 Not an overly great wheat beer but it is a nice, light beer with a bit of hops. The elderberry adds a somewhat different finish and aftertaste.
2.4 Pours a hazy yellow with pink hue, tiny white head. Aroma is grape, raspberry, blueberry, cough syrup, hay. Taste is medium sweet, light salt / light hop, doughy. Light/Med body, average carbonation. Reminiscent of a berry soda made with splenda... not my favorite.
