3.8 Can. Slightly hazy gold with grapefruit peel nose and grapefruit flavor. It’s not subtle and not multifaceted, but if this is your thing, you’re gonna love it. Yum!!!
3.1 Pours a clear yellow with light white head. A faint orange aroma. A string orange taste with hops and pine. A lingering strong citrus and dry hop aftertaste.
2.4 This a generic IPA with some citrus flavor. I’ve never been a fan of this fruited IPA trend, and think IPAs tend to be boring and uninspired in general, and this is an excellent example of why. Is it undrinkable? No. But I wouldn’t buy it.
2.7 Golden color with a just a hint of orange. Light beige head. I was expecting grapefruit, but my nose is picking up scents of baby aspirin, cherries and hint of caramel. After it sets a bit some grapefruit is revealed. Really sweet start, which is quickly balanced by an odd ruby red grapefruit and sharp grapefruit zest flavor. Rather sharp on the tongue. I seem to be catching some watermelon as well. Finish has a bit of toasted malt and linger is bitter with some allspice, clove and cinnamon. Not quite digging this peel.
3.1 Draft at Bierstube. Mostly clear bright golden yellow pour with nice thick frothy white foam. Rows of thick lace. Looks great! Tastes less great. Oily lemon peels. Grapefruit pith. Pineapple cores. Moderately strong citrus hops. Good amount of thick medium blonde honey malts. Watery gelatin body. Spicy sweet finish.
3.0 12oz can - pours an almost hazy golden yellow with a fluffy off white head. Light aroma of grapefruit, citrus hop and white biscuit malt. Descent but slightly watery flavors similar to the aroma. Quaffable
3.0 Bottle. Hazed yellow pour, with a white head. Strong grapefruit, bitterness, grapefruit peel, light bread, and mild sweetness. Ok, one dimension fruit IPA.
3.2 A lighter IPA. Some fruit flavors, not bad but probably not my favorite IPA out of the pack. A little too much fruit.
3.3 Draft. Poured clear light copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate balanced citrus aroma. Medium body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Standard IPA.
3.4 As most Magic Hat beers, there is something missing, but it is still enjoyable. Some grapefruit peel is in there.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a hazy golden yellow orange with a thick foamy white head. Aroma of floral hops, bitter hops, light fruits, pale malt. Flavor of light fruits, pale malts, lots of bitter grapefruit and bitter hops in the finish. Light, some fruitiness, very bitter. Pretty good IPA. 7/4/7/4/14 (3.6/5)
3.9 Whtie head. Heavy carb. From a bottle. Wheat, grapefruit, peel. Heavy GF. Very good.
3.2 12 ounce bottle from House of Bottles in Marengo, IL (August 2016), sampled a few minutes out of the fridge in a Guinness pint glass. Very cloudy, hazy amber-gold with visible particulates, creamy white lasting head, some thick lacing...yeah it’s mostly grapefruit in the nose, though I can detect some more resinous hops, and a bit of pepper, also a bit of funkiness - a bit like BO but not exactly - that I’m not sure I like; interesting though...body is grapefruit-sour, tanging and almost mouth-puckering; while there is some hop presence, it takes a back seat to the sour fruit juice, and there’s little malt to back it up so it becomes a bit fatiguing...carbonation strong, body just slightly on the thin side. Better than I expected, frankly; what little I’ve had from MH in the past 5 or so years hasn’t impressed (and they weren’t totally reliable in the decade previous either). But I think one has to give them some credit for putting Vermont on the map and blazing the trail for much better brewers, and certainly they’ve had an impact in how they run their business and sell their schwag; in fact my strongest memory associated with them is the two wonderful delicate pils glasses that I used to have - both delicate enough that they have long since shattered. Sniff. Bring that design back and I’ll forgive a lot of crappy beers, guys.
3.3 Bottle - I do taste a hint of pink grapefruit tartness which is nice. Good bitter hop flavor as well. Grapefruit is the first thing on the palate but quickly fades to hop bitterness. Good mouth feel.
4.0 Alla spina. IPA bionda ed erbacea, mediamente intensa, fresca, con forti sentori di scorza di agrumi e pompelmo rosa. Sotto il cocente sole di Las Vegas è stata un gustoso ricostituente!
2.5 Bottle at home. Pours clear orange with a medium, frothy white head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is moderate grapefruit and citrus hops, subdued diacetyl notes and cracker malt. Flavor is bitter grapefruit, moderate citrus and resin hops and bitterness, light cracker malt and diacetyl with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
3.2 12oz bottle pour. Clear golden with lasting white soapy head, moderate lacing. Nose is full-on grapefruit citrus, with a bit of maltiness; a little sweeter than I had anticipated flavour-wise, with a slightly sour bittersweet finish that isn’t as pleasant as I’d hoped. Rather thin on the palate. Pretty decent.
3.3 Sampled at the Hallendale, FL Yard House. Very clear gold with a white head. Bitter zest. Grapefruit. Not much else.
2.1 12 ounce bottle from Total Wine Roseville, grassy, yellow, thin lasting head, bittern finish.
3.3 Bottled in NH. Pale ale character to start with a pronounced bitterness up front. Didn’t find this especially citrusy though it finished with a distinct grapefruitiness. Much more bitter than, say, a grapefruit weis, but without the balancing maltiness in of a well-built IPA. Did not improve as it warmed up. Nevertheless, a fun beer in the sunshine.
3.0 A golden ipa with a thick frothy lacing white head . In aroma, nice biscuit malt with citrusy floral hops, grapefruit pulp, nice and smooth. In mouth, a mix of grapefruit juice with a light ipa, tart, OK. On tap at Plattsburgh Brewfest 2016.
3.1 On tap at magic hat. Pours out a golden topped with a white head. Nose is big grapefruit citrus hops and some candy sweetness. Taste is more of the grapefruit citrus and a sweet candy.
3.0 Bottle from IPA variety pack. Bright grapefruit aroma. Taste: wow. Tons of grapefruit in there. Very bitter. I still kinda like this even though I’m not big on grapefruit juice; if you like IPAs and grapefruit juice, give it a try.
3.2 Bottle @ Party Source / Bellevue KY --- Aroma of citrus. Cloudy light golden amber, frothy pure white head, streamers of lace. Taste is malt that is quickly undone by sour/bitter citrus and strong carbonation. Malt meekly resurfaces in a long finish. Too much citrus for me, but it is well presented with thirst quenching character. Once is probably enough.
2.0 Light aroma, slight hints of citrus. Lighter yellow in color with medium thickness. Fruity and citrusy start with mild finish
3.3 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy gold color with an average sized white head. Aroma of pink grapefruit and citrus. Flavor of pale malts, grapefruit rind, citrus and some light lemon.
4.4 Light rich but crisp rather than smooth with definite citrus peel and mild grapefruit notes. Refreshing and just what I wanted.
3.5 Pours a golden hazy orange color. About two finger white rocky head. good retention, great lacing. Aroma is weird. What is this? Smell is like toast. It’s malty, and bready. Grapefruit peel and don’t know if I smell hops or grapefuit. It’s different for an IPA, of course I’m drinking a grapefruit IPA. Taste is bready and grapefruit citrus. I smell the grapefruit as I drink it. The finish has a good deal of grapefruit twang. I notice the twang more than I do the actual taste in the beer. Mouthfeel is medium body. Strange grapefruit peel finish coming in way late. There’s an acidic oily finish to it, that throws everything off. Overall, I like it. This beer has its ups and downs as you drink it, and its mostly down. No freshness date, maybe its old? Oooh, there goes another tick. There’s nothing remarkable about it. I would not recommend this, and I don’t expect to drink this again.
3.2 Hazy yellow orange in the glass. Nose is vacant. Palate is sweet, slight grapefruit bite. Little bitter toward the end. Going to try this again on the tractor this summer.
3.3 Bottle. Amber beer with a cream head. Earth and light grapefruit aroma. Grapefruit and earth flavor. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Light grapefruit and pine lingers with light earth.
