3.0I thought thus was a decent marten.. Upfront like a normal caramel oktoberfeat with a slight spice finish
3.2Bottle. Not your typical Octoberfest beer. Light to medium body, pours light amber small head, malty aroma, pick up the rye, medium hops
2.7Bottle. This is a pretty flimsy Marzen. Nothing super special here. Grab an Ayinger.
2.712oz bottle. Pours a light amber color with a light tan head. Not much aroma. Some sweet malt and faint spices. Taste of bitter piney hops, caramel and slightly roasted malts, and spices.
3.5Appearance: I got lazy and enjoyed straight from the bottle, but I Googled me a pic ... doesn’t look much like an Octoberfest. A bit light. Nice lacing in the bottle.
Smell: Well, it’s an amber. Not shy, and gets you with the malts. The hops are certainly in there, but you can get an idea of what kind of beer this is just from a quick whiff. Pretty good stuff.
Taste/feel: As an Octoberfest, it’s average. As an amber, it’s average. To me, this tastes quite a bit like Boston Lager, but missing a certain "oomph" that Sam Adams puts in that beer. This is still a pretty nice beer, and I wouldn’t mind having myself another. A nice bit of malts, and a refreshing beer all the way. I dig it.
3.0Presentation: 12 oz. brown bottle with no freshness date. Bottle cap reads: "Be True. Be You." Served in a steidel.
Appearance: Very clear, dark amber color. Almost a finger of head, that quickly fizzles out into a thin ring. No lacing on the glass.
Smell: Not aromatic at all. Slight hints of malt and hops, but that’s about it.
Taste: Quite malty with a helping of hop bitterness. A bit of sweetness in there as well with an overall smoky taste.
Mouthfeel: Not that much carbonation. It’s medium bodied and creamy.
Overall: Not the best seasonal out there, but it’s not like Magic Hat was out to knock everyone out. It’s certainly one of the more interesting ones available. Definitely worth a try.
2.9A little bit of smoke aroma in this brings it above the average for style, but still the taste overall comes off a bit weird. Pours clear copper. Average carbonation, sticky consistency. Aftertaste a little sweet and odd - seems slightly off just like their #9. Bottle from Smoke it Cigars in San Juan.
3.5Bottle in NYC sept 2012. Clear amber beer with a small white head. Malty and dried dark fruits aroma. Hoppy and malty flavour.
3.3Deep gold to burnt orange color is one of the best things about this beer. Faint citrus aroma, but solid, slightly tart taste. A little too smooth and watery. Love the label. Packaging should be a rateable category!
2.8Not great but not awful. Just a little bland.
3.3Beautiful looking beer. Decent taste. I’ve certainly had better Octoberfest beers. Not terrible, but not a favorite.
2.6Pours an orange amber color with very little head. Smell is sweet malt with some caramel. Taste is sweet upfront with some hops taste that ends a little astringent. Mouthfeel is medium weight . Not impossible to drunk but not overly enjoyable.
3.312 ounce bottle from mix and match six pack bought at Finneytown Kroger. Hazy medium to dark amber hue, sweet toasted malt nose, small white head that slowly left with good lacing, creamy texture, taste much like aroma wih a sugary note. Despite some astringency, a good oktoberfest.
3.712 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 8/23/2012. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of caramel, pear, apple, golden raisin, toast, toffee, bread, light grass, and herbal hops. Pretty nice aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of caramel, apple, pear, toast, toffee, nuttiness, bready grain, light grass, floral, and light herbal spiciness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, light fruits, toast, toffee, bready grain, nuttiness, and light herbal spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of flavors; with zero cloying sweetness present on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and light slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a good Oktoberfest style. Nicely robust with good balance of flavors; and very smooth to drink. This was a nicely enjoyable offering.
3.8Good beer. I personally would like just a tiny bit less hop kick to it but otherwise I cannot make any real complaints. Is the first smoky malt beer I’ve had that I didn’t want to clean my tongue after and makes me interested to try others again.
3.8This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a extremely large sized head of foamy off-white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a softly carbonated hazy with with yeast swirls orange colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The complex aroma was floral and musty. thick . The thick flavor contained notes of hops and malt. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.
3.5Bottle. golden, hazy, small to average and mostly diminishing head. Moderate, malty and lightly sweetish, light caramel and light smokiness, light grassy - herbal hoppyness. Body is medium, malty and lightly sweetish flavor, some caramel/light bread and light hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and sweetish, some caramel/light bread with light smokiness, light grassy hoppyness. OK märzen (could be drier).
2.0Bottle pours a amber tastes smells sweet bit spice not much hops has some malt. Not really anything either way magic hat sucks balls.
3.1Ok brew but not much to really brag about. Not much aroma. Little to no lacing. Sweet in taste and just an average / ok American Oktoberfest beer.
2.0Not what one would expect from an Octoberfest. Pours light amber with no head. Taste is of light malts and finishes clean. Kind of a boring take on a good style.
3.0Pours a clear amber with small quickly fading off white head. Aroma and Taste of toasted barley, malt, yeast, some mild fruity notes and grassy flavor, light hops bitterness. Palate is a medium body with good carbonation. Finish is toasted barley, malt, yeast, mild fruity notes with some hops for balance. Overall good brew.
2.612 oz bottle The beer poured a clear copper with a small head and lacing. Aroma was of sweet malt. Taste of caramel, raisin and some spice. The light body beer had average carbonation. The beer finished with a malty sweet taste.
3.2Amber with an average off-white head. Aroma is of grain, malt, straw and soil. Taste is of malt, caramel.
2.7Bottle. Orange in color, decent off white head, and clear. The smell is caramel, sweet, toast, cereal, and malt. The taste is much the same as the smell, slightly dry astringent finish.
2.212 oz bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy amber with medium consistent head. Aromas of malt and resin. Initial sour almost berry flavor followed by a mouthful of carbonation - and nothing much else.
2.5This beer is one of the reasons I’m always wary of Oktoberfest’s when the fall rush comes out in September. This beer doesn’t taste like anything. The nose is good with some bread and spice notes and the body is a brilliant copper color with a watery, off-white head. Take a sip of it and you get a nice rush of carbonation but that is about it. There is a malty body with slight spicy notes but the beer falls just short of culminating and amounting to anything really. If you’re going down the aisle at the liquor store or perusing the tap handles at your local pub looking for an Oktoberfest, skip this one.
2.9Funky scents almost like plastic and feet. Taste is not much better, bland taste.
3.212 ounce bottle, poured a copper color with a nice light tan head, smoky aroma of some hops, caramel, and malt. Flavors are same. Not bad, not bad at all.
2.2CAn’t get excited about this one. Appearance of a pale lager. Blah Weak Octoberfest if this is trying to be one and I am not sure that it is. Tough aroma Does have a smoky thing going on in the finish and a sharp bitter bite perhaps Head stayed with it the whole glass. Got better as it warmed a bit perhaps I had it too cold. or a buzz was kicking in. Just not much going on. Some malts may try again but this one was pretty much unforgettable and on the weak side.
2.5amber, orange in color.
medium sweetness, lightly bitter, somewhat complicated malt flavor mixed with light clean hopping.
Kind of like a confused version of a better beer with that sort of craptastic bitter taste common of low grade marzens.
