3.3Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC. Pours clear russet with a soft, creamy, off-white head. Pretty classic Irish Ale aroma: caramel, toasty malts, leaves. Light sweet flavor, wet leaves, dull caramel, toast, mild bitterness. Light bodied with fine, tingly carbonation. Faintly dry and sweet to finish, leafy bitterness, slight semi-dark fruits, toasty malts. Very basic beer but not offensive in any way, really.
3.0Brownish color pour with a head that fades rapidly. Plain ol beery aroma. Friendly initial low alky malty taste makes this presentable. Decent amount of co2 on the palate. Comes across a little creamy. Yes, friendly and rather easy. I was expecting something overly malty for some reason but this is not too bad! Picking up some carob in there I think. Good overall beer experience. Probably could drink a few of these at a stiing. More like a mild ale.
3.612 ounce bottle from seasonal 12-pack purchased at Publix supermarket. Very good
3.5One of the tastier Irish Ale’s I’ve tried. Red, nice looking, very malty and rich, with malt notes such as toffee, sugar, sweet but not too sweet. Very well done session ale.
3.7Tap at international Beer Fest 2011. I’m usually more impressed with Magic Hat’s bravery in brewing new and unusual styles each year, more so than I am with their execution. Not the case here. The aroma is earthy, caramel. The appearance is a deep red, cream-colored head. The flavor is earth, caramel, pine. The fiish is light pine, lingering sweetness. Medium to medium/thick in body. Quite good. Standout for this style.
3.5Pours an extremely dark red with a small light tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, cherry and toffee. Nice carbonation, roasted malts, little chocolate and caramel, some fruit.
3.3bottle from a mixed 12 pack poured a red amber color with a thin covering of off white head. aroma has roasted malts, some nuts, and toffee. mouth feel is thin with creeping carbonation. flavor has earthy malts, caramel, dull hops, and a lingering finish. fairly flavorful and is easy drinking.
2.7Dark reddish pour with a small white head. Caramel malt and cider notes lead to biscuit fruitiness and lactic hints. Medium body with low carbonation. Slightly astringent. Not good...
3.412oz bottle 8/13/11 (Binny’s Downers Grove Singles Rack)-420176 in English Pint-Pours a dark red iwth a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, toffee, and caramel. Taste of the same with a bit of caramel and smoke. This full bodied brew is well balanced and goes down easy. Great brew.
3.2on tap at brewpub. copper-red, decent light beige head, retention, some lacing. roasted malts and fruitiness, earthyness, light but present acidity, light to medium grassiness and citrus. average carbonation, light to medium body. nice.
3.6A dark red pour with an off-white head. The aroma is malty with notes of caramel, nuts, and some herbal hops. The light body has a somewhat thin texture and lively carbonation. The taste is mildly sweet with a dry finish.
2.8Reddish copper with a thin tan head. Aroma of malt, light chocolate, toffee, toasted malt and a hint of smoke. Taste is mild and thin with lightly toasted malt, caramel and not much else. Typical Magic Hat fodder.
3.2deep red pour with a slight tan head. smells of carame, and a hint of butterscotch. medium sweetness, lightly bitter, lingering roasty finish. decent brew out of the variety pack.
3.1Bottle from Night of The Living Dead Variety Pack. Pretty red color, nice off white head. Aroma is earthy, nutty, caramel malt, apple. Body is medium, flavors mirror the nose. The finish is slightly flawed, astringent and harsh. Finishes with a toasty, slightly smokiness, very much like a scotch ale.
3.6Pours a deep dark red. Aroma is very malty and quite nice. Taste is just a good. Impressive!
3.012 oz. bottle. Dark red pour with a smallish head. Aroma and flavor both hold sweet cream, caramel, syrup, and a touch of apple fruitiness. Ok but I’m shocked this is rated so highly. Pretty meh as far as I can tell.
3.5Aroma is interesting, very roasty like cocoa, love the color it gives! And in the glass it intrigues me to taste.... Its pretty good (the pregame is better than the event.) But I like it, nice and light with the flavors of a heavier brew. Has a funny/sweet taste that stays on my tongue. Overall I say give it a taste, it might blow your mind?
3.3Pours a clear mahogany with fair tan head ring. Decent caramel toasty nose with sweet and nutty flavor. A little astringent, but overall, pretty nice. Has more scotch ale notes.
3.1Malty presents, A little fizzy on the tongue. Sharp club soda finish. Given as a gift in a Mixed 12 pack including #9, HiPA, and Hex.
2.82011 Brewfest Roch. Poured clear brown with a mushroom tan head. nose of oat and sweetness. roasted malt warmth on the tongue with nuts and breadyness. Still a bit thin but at least it somewhat represents a red. Some people at the fest, say it is not as good as it used to be. (It’s not my type)
3.6Pours a reddish amber with an off white head. Aroma is grainy, caramel, and a little toast. Flavor is grainy, sweet malt, toasted nuts, lightly earthy.
3.5Bottle. Great beer. Deep amberish-cooper color. Nice head. Great floral, malt and hay aroma. Good flavor that was extremely well balanced.
3.0Clean tasting with a fizzy malty presence. The malts have a slight toffee with some nuttiness. Hops are bitter and clean. The color is brown red with a scrubbing taste
3.4The pour is a darker amber with a quick head that dissolves and leaves just a small amount of lacing. The aroma is full of sweet caramel malts and a faint hoppy crispness. The body is medium to full. The taste has an up front caramel-molasses malt sweetness witha sharpiung more biting finish. It is a decent take on the style.
3.1The aroma is sweet and slightly toasted with caramel malt, brown sugar, yeast, and grains. The appearance is brown amber with a smaller head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall a well crafted beer without any real standout qualities.
3.5Bottle from variety pack. P is ruby brown w an offwhite head that dissipated to the edge. Nose is full malts and dark ffruit balance to be deep and satisfying. Taste is similar though light and drinkable. Decent brew for the style
3.412 oz bottle, pours a dark copper/brown color. Minimal head. Aroma is very prominent and appetizing, especially for an Irish ale. Very roasty and nutty with some toffee noted. Not as skunky/yeasty as other Irish ales can be. Taste was bitter and sweet, fairly well balanced. Mildy full body, moderately bitter aftertaste. Overall great representation of the genre.
3.3Purchased from the Glenway Avenue Westwood "Krogers" - Alright, this twelve ouncer poured a mahogany hued brew into my lager cup, with a thick (but rapidly fading) off white head. Tastewise, I’d call this beer smokey and grain heavy, rather kind of a psuedo-peat flavoring. Still okay, though.
3.6Pours clear mahogany into a Sam glass. Off-white micro head slowly pancakes as it recedes leaving trailing sheets. Toffee, molasses and roasted nut aromas. Sweet caramel upfront turning dry in the abrupt toasted grain finish.
3.3(12 ounce bottle - pint glass) Has a red brown color. Medium malty sweetness and little bitterness. Notes of caramel, toffee and brown sugar. Creamy texture and soft carbontation.
