3.4 Yellow into orange barely a head, though seems carbonated in the mouth. resin, hay & caramel aroma. Flavor of orange, pine tingle, caraml. overall delicacy to it, sessionish.
2.4 4 magic hat ipa’s side by side. 1 Electric Peel, 2 Encore (odd notion, wheat), 3 Lucky Kat, 4 HIPA. Flatened quickly. Tastes a bit watery compared to others. Faint ash in aftertaste drops this a bit. Not great.
1.7 Rating from 4-20-2010....12 oz. bottle...copper with a beige head....the aroma is so light its almost non-existent...a whiff of malt and a whiff of citrus & some metal :(...there is not much to this beer, the closest to hops I get are in the mild bitter finish...there is a lot of metallic flavor throughout this beer....and its watery
4.0 It has a deep amber or copper color with very good clarity. The head builds up tall and fluffy. Its head is just off white in color and leaves cool rings of lacing on the glass. There is a big fruity hop aroma with some hints of citrus and pine. It starts with a doughy, sort of earthy malt with some mild sweetness and light caramel notes. Hop flavor slowly takes over with fruity, citrus and mild pine notes. Its hop flavor is very big and juicy yet bitterness is more modest making it very easy and fun to drink. The finish is semi-dry with a nice bitter fade. Its medium bodied with average carbonation and a slick easy drinking texture.
3.1 Rated on 7-02-2009 (Bottle) This beer pours a medium sized smooth, fizzy ivory head that mostly diminishes, mostly transparent, slightly hazy orange body, and spotty amounts of lacing. The Aroma is caramel malts, citrus, pine, and grapefruits hops. The Taste is grapefruit, lightly bitter, caramel malts, citrus, and pine hops. This beer has a semi-dry short finish. The Palate is creamy and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, this is not a very hoppy tasting IPA. It could be a session IPA. This is a beer that I do not recommend as it needs more hop flavor and more character for the style.
3.2 November 2009 from a sampler case of Magic Hat beers. Orange amber color with aromas of pine, fruit, malt and earthy notes. Caramel and hops flavors, a bit grassy.
3.8 Originally reviewed: 11/4/08. Pours a nice deep orange with a large foamy off-white head. Excellent retention with nice sticky lacing. Good amount of bubbles coming off the bottom of the glass. Smells like bread, some malt and a little metal. This brew tastes great. Nice amount of hop bitterness that isn’t harsh at all. A little more mellow than I was expecting from an IPA. Taste some grains, with a little malt sweetness that is just enough to balance this nicely. This has a very good aftertaste, like I just ate some fresh buttered bread. I dig this brew. I will seek this out in the future whenever I can.
3.9 Great brew. I feel like this tastes better warm than cold. Semi-heavy, sweet-ish taste.
3.3 Bottle. Similar to other Magic Hat brews, but with one notch lower hoppy aroma and flavors. Moderate carbonation. Nice medium amber color. Moderately bitter finish. Drinkable. The Hi PA is better.
3.2 Pours a reddish brown with a two finger bubbly off white head that dissipates slowly and leaves minimal lacing. Smells of citrus and flowery hops, with a bit of sweet honey and caramel malt aromas. Taste is a bit floral earthy almost mineraly with a sweet malt edge. Sweet honey and maybe some brown sugar in there with a hint of butterscotch. Long lingering sweetness in the finish. Medium body and carbonation, with a watery/syrupy almost tart mouthfeel. Decent brew, but hardly an IPA. If it were a pale ale I might have scored it higher. Better than most magic hat brews, but pedestrian when compared to some other craft brew offerings.
2.1 Looks good, pouring a dark, slightly hazed red-amber, with a light beige head that lasts like a champ. But the smell brings your expectations crashing down, blandly smelling of malt, hop, and ambiguous beer. Super malty for having such a "big hop bite!" Dumbed down IPA, minimal bitterness, with no hop flavor save for oily IBUs. Smooth and creamy, but even a good feel can’t save this brew. (6/8/09)
2.6 Aroma is odd sweet malts with some earthy hops. Taste is bitter fruity malts overpowered by earthy hops. Overall IPA isn’t my style and this one is a little off.
2.0 Comes in a 12 oz bottle with a tedious looking label with lots of random things on it like "an IPA" and "beer kitty, kitty". Best before October 09. Pours into my american pint glass with a decent slightly off-white foamy head that rises to the top with a copper/orange color for the beer. Head is very sticky. Smell is pretty malty, with some grassy hops. The malt is thick and caramel scented. Mothfeel is a bit watery on this one for an IPA. Taste is of a strong malt backbone with slightly biscuity and caramel malts. The hops penetrate the tounge in the finish with a medium bitterness with some residual malt flavors and some metal as well. With the regressed mouthfeel I feel the drinkability suffers for this one too. The taste really is pretty decent, but the way it is presented in the mouth could be fine tuned a lot better. Overall its an average IPA, on the shallower end of flavor intensity, even for an East Coast IPA.
3.2 Rich amber/cider color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of floral hops, citrus, & some caramel; Flavor of sweet malt, hops, and citrus (notably grapefruit); Finish is slightly bitter; Fairly well balanced; A decent IPA overall.
3.0 Pours hazy orange with white head, aroma is light citrus hops with a touch of caramel. I saw another review saying this is IPA light, that is a good description. Some hops, some caramel, and a little bitter. Good intro to IPAs, but not an IPA drinkers beer.
2.7 Dull gold pour releases floral hop and sweet malt in a robust head. The medium body is sweet and lightly hoppy with an equally light--and admittedly proportional--caramel malt proportionally balanced to the hops. This isn’t going to sound like a positive recommendation but it’s a great introduction to an IPA for the wholly uninitiated who might be turned off by an aggressively hopped, American IPA, irrespective of how balanced that brew might be. I look at this as IPA Light, but not pejoratively so.
1.8 Not a fan of IPA’s ABV 5.8 pours a slightly hazy amber bitter initial flavor and finish that stays awhile., long lasting head off white,
2.4 Bottle and served in standard pint glass: Slightly hazed golden hue with a frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of wet hay, grassy and slightly citric hops, hint of toffee and lime leaves. The taste is quite blah, more like a poorly made APA than a poorly made IPA. There is some bitterness upon the front-end but that lacks any punch and the malt seems stale and flabby. Some very minor hints of fruitiness acidic and light hop spice attempts to step up but alas they are ill equipped, note that some on the turning away sourness is starting to peek around the bend. The palate while lively enough to be refreshing suffers from a dead yeast chalky and flimsy finish. Maybe too old or just not all that good to begin with, I lean towards the latter.
3.1 Bottle. Pours orangey copper with a medium, quickly disappearing off white head. Aroma is caramel, sweet malt, some floral hops, some fruit. Flavor starts sweet and bready, finishes bitter and grapefruit/lemon. Solid IPA.
3.4 12 oz Bottle. Pours to a rich amber red color with a nice head or off white that seems to stick to the glass.. Aroma is pretty bland, with just hint of hops, and citrus. Flavor was a medium bitter. Palate was a little rough around the edges. Had a nice hop flavor, but that’s about it. Has a little spring to the carbonation, but not a whole lot of pep. Overall a serviceable IPA. Nothing to write home about, but drinkable.
2.5 Clear orangish pour courtesy of the Fratto-pikapp327 crew. Aroma of sweet caramel hops, nice grains. Bitter grain flavor with dryness. Thanks guys!!!
3.1 Very clear copper beer with off white head. Hops in the nose. Nice balanced intro IPA taste. It is a bit thin.
3.2 Had a couple of samples at the SS Peter and Paul tasting. This is not a favored brewer but I found this to be a nice beer. Good mix of hops and a pretty decent IPA. Some nice spice came late.
3.1 The aroma is more malty than that of hops. It is red amber in appearance. The flavor is that of slightly bitter hops, but there is not much else going on my palate.
2.5 Bottle from the Eastchase Majestic. Orange pour with a white head. Aroma is caramel, malts, bitter fruit, hops, and biscuit. Flavor is citrus, hops, and caramel. A little awkward.
3.4 Pours a pasty amberish golden color. Aroma is dry and hopy with some citrus undertones. Flavor is bitey and bitter, unusual, but to be expected from Magic Hat.
3.1 Pours reddish amber with an off white head. Aroma is faint earthy and citrusy hops with some caramel as well. Flavor is bitter and citrusy, but not too hoppy up front and with a slight caramel backbone. Not bad.
2.5 12 ounce bottle-a orangish pour-white head -aroma and taste of grass, some citrus-smooth too smooth finish for a ipa
2.0 Super clear orange pour with a big off white head. Aroma is grassy hops, candle wax, chamomile and caramel sugar. Flavor is light malt caramel, some hop flavors that are earthy, but not fresh. Lots of paper and cardboard character. Finish is bitter on the roof and reminiscent of cold black tea. Light carbonation, worty and slick. More like a super stale ESB.
3.5 Nice piney hop aroma. Head piles up initially and then settles to a thin but persistent cap that laces down the glass. Sets on an orange/red hazy liquid. Taste starts sweet which surprised me for this IPA. Floral and piney hop notes carry on through a very pleasant warming finish. Bitterness is well developed but doesn’t overwhelm the flavor. Nice beer.
