Magic Hat Pistil

Magic Hat Pistil

Stop and smell the petals. Pistil is a summer beer unlike any other, brewed with a combination of dandelion petals, Pale and Acidulated malts, flaked oats, and Apollo and Northern Brewer hops that results in a one-of-a-kind beer with a slightly sour acidity and a smooth malt body. Perfect for taking down deep thirst.

2.0 Poured from 12oz bottle. Wonderful floral opening with a smooth malt character followed by a sour bite. Great beer for a hot day in the sun. --you've been Dubbed.
3.2 Bottle from Fresh and Easy: Aroma is mild and has a minor scent of crushed coriander seeds along with a pinch of ground clove. Also, it did smell as if there was flowers but it wasn’t until I read the description that only then I was convinced it was really there. Liquid was hazy glowing yellow hue with tons of sediment floating about while a thin layer of foam quickly fizzes down. The flavor follows the same profile as my nose sniffed out but the delicate sweetness combined with the soft delicate touch of acidic bitterness make this a much tastier recipe than the mass distrubted Magic Hat #9, but still is nothing special considering the remainder of beers on the shelves.
1.7 Pours slightly cloudy with clean white head. Very little aroma but what there is smells like weeds. Flavor is light is floral in a "tastes like grass clippings" kind of way.
3.4 Poured into a lager glass from a 3/4 of a pint bottle. An open sniff of hops hints; a traditional gold cloudiness; an exquisite taste of spritz complexed. Dandy Lions, indeed.
3.1 Tap. Pours clear pale golden yellow, small white head, some lacing. Aroma is light grass, honey, floral. Flavor is light sweet, floral with a bit of acidity. Lingering bitterness on the far finish. Light body
4.0 Had a glass on tap at Alexandrias as part of a flight. Delicious, light, refreshing, simple
3.1 Aroma: Clean aroma, almost watery, with hints of cooked vegetables. Appearance: Cloudy pale yellow with minimal head. Taste: Medium sourness all the way through. Palate: Light body, slick texture, flat carbonation, long herbal finish. Overall: Drinkable, but the herbal taste overwhelms. I’m not impressed.
3.0 12 oz. bottle from Wilbur’s. Appearance: finger white head, straw yellow, clear, good lacing. Aroma: dandelion, floral, light earthy yeast. Palate: light body, average carbonation, dry finish, thin texture. Taste: lightly sweet through front, ending is somewhat tannin bitter. Overall, like the taste, but thin on the aroma and nothing much to say for palate. Drinkable.
2.5 $1.67 bottle from Trader Joe’s, Charlottesville. Pours light gold with a large white head. Smells of slightly sweet grasses. Tastes of light grasses. That’s it. Bitter... bland... thin... watery.
2.8 Slightly cloudy yellow. Very bland aroma and taste. Concept far exceeds actual brew!
3.2 Faint sour aroma, pours a clear pale yellow with a full white head. Slight floral taste, with just a touch of tartness in the finish. There is a vegetal aftertaste that comes out at the end, which has a bite of bitterness to it. Not a bad beer, but there’s a lot more sours and summer beers I’ll reach for first.
2.7 Straw pour with good white head and good lacing. Aroma is light and yeasty, but not unpleasantly so. Flavor is light and crisp; slightly tart. Light body and clean finish. A pleasant summer beer.
2.8 Sampled from a bottle at the Bluebonnet Brew-off. Poured a boring clear yellow with a white head. Subtle taste of spruce, citrus, and pale malts. Medium carbonation, medium body. Meh...
2.2 March 24, 2014. Bottle from summer sampler 12 pack. Pours hazy, bright piss yellow with a medium, frothy, brilliant white head and good lacing. Aroma is like perfume. Light citrus, floral, earthy and spicy wheat malt with hint of hops. Flavor is lightly tart with floral hops, faint hop bitterness, light crisp pale malt with an earthy character and a dry finish. Light body, medium carbonation, and light astringency. Exactly what I expected.
3.0 Bottle at home. Pours hazy yellow with a medium, frothy, brilliant white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is light citrus, pear esters, earthy and spicy wheat malt and hops, perfume and flowers. Flavor is lightly tart citrus, light floral hops, faint hop bitterness, light crisp pale malt with an earthy character and a dry finish. Light body, medium carbonation, and light astringency.
1.3 355ml bottle. Guess it is a saison. Too much dry sulphury and minerally flavors. bland.
2.8 Bottle from a variety pack. Poured into a pint glass it is a pale straw color with some haze. Taste is slightly floral, lemon. It is thin and over carbonated. It really doesn’t taste like much of anything and as it warmed it became less crisp. It might be better icy cold on a really hot summer day.
2.3 Bitter like ipa, but no alcohol kick. Veggie, dandelions. Yellow color. Medium head Nothing special.
2.3 Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a pale gold colored body that leaves a one finger white head that dies down to a paper thin film within twenty seconds. Barely any lacing coats the sides of the glass and the body is too hazy for any carbonation to be seen rising. The smell had some grainy and cereal malts combined with some spicy hops. After the beer warms a bit, some sage and thyme came out. The taste had a graininess/cereal maltiness coming back pretty strong. The palate sat about a light to medium with a dry finish, decently balanced. Overall, ok, not bad, would I have this again?, hmmm... probably only on tap.
2.7 Hazy pale gild with a nice fluffy white head. Sweet floral aroma with some spice and yeast. Taste starts the same but ends metallic and a bit odd. Light body. Would good if it didn’t have the weird finish.
3.1 12 oz bottle from Frys. Not just hazy but some serious chunky debris in this light pale beer. Very little of that comes through in the aroma or flavor. It has a doughy flavor, like raw pizza dough, a hint of sourness, with maybe a little earthy hint from the hops and adjuncts. A good light session beer but seems like a lot of production for that variety of beer.
2.7 At the DC Craft Beer Festival. Poured a hazy dull golden color with an off-white head. Very light floral notes. Aroma was light crisp malts. Some malt, light herbal hops. Inoffensive. meh. mostly unremarkable.
2.9 dough, cheese, grass, hay, golden, hazy, minimal head, white foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, light body, thin feel, soft carbonation,
3.3 [5304-20130429] Tap. Mild grassy aroma. Clear, pale yellow body with a quick foamy white head. Bitter lemon pip grass flavour has a quick finish. Medium body. Interesting, abrupt. (6/3/7/3/14) 3.3 (@ brewery, South Burlington, VT)
2.5 Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a glass. Pours slightly hazy golden with small white head. Aroma is dandelion, light/medium body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is pilsner malt, dandelion, and some herbal hops.
2.8 12 oz bottle, 2014 release. Hazy light yellow with a fluffy white head that settles to a thin cap, and leaves a light lacing behind. Aroma is pale malt, cereal grain and biscuits. Flavor is lightly sweet, with a spicy, earthy bitterness. A touch of herbal tea in the finish, but not too over the top. Interesting beer, but I couldn’t drink more than one in a session.
2.7 12oz bottle from Drum Hill Liquor, Chelmsford, NH. A cloudy pale amber pour with a ring of white head; sweet aroma; grainy body with a slight sourness that’s quite refreshing. I was a bit uncertain about this when I saw the ingredients, but it’s actually a good summer refresher.
2.6 Good summer beer for something different tasting. I enjoy the slight sour/tartness that this beer finishes with.
1.9 Do you know what this smells like? Cat urine, cauliflower, and apple cider vinegar. Really doesn’t taste much better.
3.4 This is dry, bitter and rather astringent blond ale. My guess is the dandelion petals add the astringency. I actually like this sort of thing but I’d imagine some folks will think it’s like sucking on a tea bag. To me, that dry feeling on the tongue just begs for another sip and that is a quality I think of rather highly in a beer.
