1.9 Poured from a bottle at the cafe taj in McLean it is a clear golden effervescent pilsner with the aroma of malt and the taste is thin with some bitter sweetness and a chickpea taste
2.6 From a 12 oz bottle at the Cafe Taj in McLean. Pours a clear gold with a white head. Bready nose. Light flavors of various grain. Clean finish.
2.1 12oz bottle from a Indian store in Rochester, NY. Straw coloured with a fast fading white head; sweet corn syrup aroma; syrupy body; lacking finish and flavour.
3.0 Transfer from BA review on 12-27-12- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance- Pours a clear golden color with a one finger fizzy white head. The head fades quite fast to leave only a very light level of lacing. Smell- The aroma was a mix of bready malt, corn, and a light caramel sweetness. Taste – The taste was as the nose would suggest and was a little on the sweeter side. It begins with a mix of caramel sweetness with some notes of corn and flavors of a malty breadiness. As the taste advances further it crisps up more as the sweeter flavors dwindle slightly and some light citrus hop flavors come to the tongue. In the end a crisp but still semi-sweet flavor is left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was on the thinner side and was rather crisp, with the carbonation level being medium to high. Both were pretty nice of the sweeter and crisper flavors of the brew. Overall – It is an easy drinking lager that is rather refreshing and nice for spicy Indian food, but is really is nothing special or to pine over.
3.8 Mild honey aroma. Clear golden colour with poor head. Great smokey and honey flavor. Medium carbonation with light body.
3.1 Bottle. Clean hop aroma. Slightly sweet flavor. Nice fine carbonation. Light bitter aftertaste. Nice easy drinking lager.
2.5 Yellow with little head. Slight aroma of corn. Uneventful taste. Reasonably refreshing.
1.9 Bottle: Clear, pale gold and no head. Light pale malt nose. Very little aroma and almost no hops. Dry, not sour and low bitterness. Light and short. Very neutral mass market beer. It is clean. Won’t offend the majority of beer consumers who have no idea. It’s not balanced. It feels sweet and tastes like honey. There is no bitterness to balance.
1.9 Light straw color; Light to medium body; Aroma and flavor of malt, cereal/corn, and grain; Fairly bland; Decent I guess.
2.9 Clear Yellow, Small Head, Little Lacing. Grainy Aroma. Slightly Sweet, corn, molt, light bitter finish. Fizzy and watery. Nothing too bad nothing too good. Drinkable, thirst quencher, does the job. Want something more, look someplace else. Pass it...
1.7 Randomly picked this up from the BevMo in Auburn, CA. Funny I see this here and not while I was IN India. Smells like straw. Kinda tastes like straw, and grass, bit of a soured hop note near the finish. Beats Kingfisher! If only I could find it over there...
2.1 Pours a light yellow color with a dirty corn aroma. Taste is slightly metallic with a dirty water flavor. Leaves a simple corn taste on the palate. Not flavorful at all but a dry flavor throughout.
2.6 Clear gold with a busy, fizzy, white head that turns to soapy, thin bubbles instantly. Corn/rice malt scent. Taste is mild, sweet grain, Actually, quite decent for style and origin. Nothing overtly bad about it at all.
2.9 Poured from a chilled bottle into a frosty mug, at an Indian restaurant. Light yellow color with a medium white head. Smells somewhat sweet, taste like a average pilsner. But really compliments the spice from my chicken korma. Great beer with spicy Indian food
3.4 Pretty decent pale lager here. Had this with some spicy chicken curry and it has a nice finish.
2.0 12 oz bottle from Uwajimaya - Dark yellow with no head to speak of. Aroma has a slightly European hint. Nothing spectacular here, but not bad for a pale lager. It would beat a lot of our microbrews.
1.9 bottle. Golden with small head. Very generic corn lager. Not very good at all.
2.4 Pale straw colored pour with a short lived white head. The nose is a bit sour and corny. But there is a touch of malt, though more of a grainy sweetness. A bit of straw and grass, too. The flavor is sweet and otherwise bland. Adjunct sweetness, grain, lemon, and some straw. Not terribly offensive, but not all that enjoyable.
3.7 Maharaja Premium Indian Pilsner has a medium, foamy head, a clear, yellow-golden appearance, some bubble steams, and a bit of lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, full, and pungent barley malt, biscuit, grass, and bread dough. Taste is of bready malt, charcoal, grass, sourness, a bit of green apple, and a faint hop bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Maharaja Premium India Pilsner finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, and mild. Overall, this is a good beer, and it’s worth a try. RJT
4.5 hay, bread, cereal, grass, citrus, pale, clear, minimal head, light sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour, light body, thin feel, lively, astringent,
2.9 Bottle at dinner, paid with lamb vindaloo made from the fiery depths of hell. Not really a pils, as it’s malt heavy with burnt caramel notes. Light fizzy body with minimal styrofoam and pine. Sadly my stomach still burns.
2.1 Bottle pours the expected clear golden with a bubbly head. Aroma of corn, grass, hay, soap. Light. Goes down relatively smoothly. I’ll stick to Avery’s maha.
3.2 A sweeter tasting pilsner that you can find at a Indian restruant. I think it goes well with a hotter food such as Indian curry. Very clear light yellow that leaves you feeling good.
2.8 It ok. Nothing special sticks out about it. Almost seems like a watered down version of Kingfisher beer. A bit lighter though so could drink a few of these
1.6 Bottled. Pours a light gold color with weak white head. Aroma of hay, corn, and slightly skunky. Weak lager flavor - mainly grain and hay. This is just your typical crappy Asian lager. Not that good, kind of watery, even for a crappy lager.
2.0 Weak hay, light chemical aroma. Crystal clear yellow, medium head. Honey and hay flavor, not strong. Tangy lemon notes also present. Fizzy. I’m sure most will dismiss this as just another weak pale lager, but I somehow enjoy these Indian lagers for their residual sweetness.
3.3 A very nice Indian pilsner. Nothing special but a refreshing beer to drink with your Vindaloo.
2.6 330ml bottle pours a pale golden color with a small white head that retained quite well but left very little lacing. Aroma is slightly skunky with cereal grains and light hops. Taste is light malt sweetness with a not too pleasing hop bitterness that lingers a while. Nothing special here, not recommended.
2.7 Samples at an esbls tasting. From Joe and Deb. very clear golden with no head. An adjunct aroma that includes corn. The flavor begins with sulfur hops. The some anise (?) is tasted. Some malt and fruit soon follow. This is not great by any means but is interesting.
1.5 Pours a pale yellow collor with a quickly dissolving white head. Aroma is of skunked malts, swampy hops, spoiled yeast, farts, and cabbage. Wow. After all those pleasant scents, how could you not want do just dive in and have a taste? Very carbonated palate. Flavor is quite dull. Malts, hops, ect. Tastes much better than how it smells.
