Maine Beer King Titus

Maine Beer King Titus

Our take on an American robust porter. Dark, thick, chewy, chocolaty, and of course, generously hopped.

Titus was a wonderful, bold silverback gorilla who led with his heart. The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund studies and protects these magnificent animals on the Virunga volcano mountain range in Rwanda. Maine Beer Company proudly supports their efforts. Learn more at GorillaFund.org.

4.4 Pure joy. Knee-buckling levels of goodness. Infinite depths of dark chocolate, molasses, black cherry, and mocha, with a touch of roast and date mixed with espresso and a healthy bitterness on the finish. Creamy, silky texture is to die for. The only pure porter I've ever come across that competes with Founders Porter. Holy shit, Maine Brewing. What can't you do?
4.5 500ml bottle - $7.99 at Sprayberry Bottle Shop in Marietta, Georgia. Appearance: Pours a very dark brown, near black body. On top, a creamy-looking, sandy-tan foam cap. Smell: A generous dosing of bittersweet chocolate stirred into cold cream with a blunted edge of roast and a supporting toastiness and cooked caramel. Minor waft of hops and a drifting vein of pipe smoke. Taste: Creamy, chocolaty with a rich blend of caramel-brushed toastiness, mild roast and impression of coffee beans. While sweet, its sweetness shows restraint. As with the aroma, there's just a faint, faint hint of smoke dispersed throughout the flavor. Light tinge of hops, a glimmer of floral, pine and some balancing bitterness. More lightly bitterish chocolate morsels on the round, smooth finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Mouthfeel has a great satiny, nigh-chewy quality to it. Overall: With the beer landscape littered with heavily adjunct laden offerings, leaving one to gaze upon the beer shelves with disinterest and disdain and a feeling of dread and unease, as if one fears there may be amateur porn of them on the web somewhere, somehow, it was an absolute TREAT to have something so well-executed. Oftentimes, a few sips in I regret having bought a beer. With King Titus, I was positively bummed I only bought the one, lone bottle.
4.1 this dark cola beer with nice head is on tap at wexford pub. really nice, plenty of caramel, hint of smoke, just a tad of dried fruit, some hops balance but especially notable for its smooth finish
3.8 500 ml bottle from notes. Pours dark brown to near black in color with a medium sized khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, dark chocolate, earthy and resiny hops, a nice balance of malts and hops, very good.
4.1 Bottle picked up by blonderedhead while on a work trip to NYC. Consumed in a snifter style glass. Pleasant chocolate notes with some complementary hoppy characteristics. Deep black color with aggressive tan head. Taste has a greater hop presence than anticipated. Dark chocolate serves as the undercurrent bringing with it some semi sweet bitterness. Roasted malt finish. Reminds me of a black IPA. An excellent take on a porter.
4.2 16 ounce bottle. Opaque dark brown color. Thick, creamy tan head, about a quarter inch high. Roasted malt nose hints of bittersweet chocolate. Rich roasted malt flavor. Very bitter hops as well. Extremely bold flavors throughout. Thick, oily and chewy. Resiny hop finish. Bodacious and flamboyant.
3.1 On tap at brewery. Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is roast, cocoa, and light caramel. Taste is similar but with the addition of light coffee. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Oily mouthfeel that might have registered as creamy if it was a bit fuller.
3.9 Tap at Cask Republic, New Haven. Colour is very dark brown with small slightly brownish head. Aromas and flavors: Chocolate, coffee, hops and roasted malts. Nice hoppiness, very soft and gentle. Superb drinkability. Definitive porter.
3.9 Pours black, with thick, foamy head. Aroma is sweet caramel and chocolate, with a hint of roast. Taste is dark chocolate and raisin, warming to a nice, balanced roast and hop flavor. Finish is smooth, with a hint of coffee. A very, very good porter.
3.8 A solid, solid porter. No individual flavors driving the taste (like coffee or smoke), but it has a really strong body. Very good color. Aroma could be a little stronger, but could be that the bottle is past 3 months of age. But overall, it held up really well and tastes solid.
3.8 Bottle shared. Pours black with a small offwhite head. Aromas of dark chocolatey malts, roasty notes, coffee, oat. Taste is malty, lightly bitter, roasty, coffee.
4.0 A very nice malty porter with a slight hoppy profile. Dark and smooth. Little pricy at 7.99 / pt. had this at the brewery in Freeport ME.
4.0 strong chocolate and fait coffee aromas. pitch black in color with huge long lasting head. taste is malty, chocolaty, roasty, and coffee flavors. silky finish.
(Rating #7301)
4.5 Big nutty earth chocolate aromas. Dark brown with a light brown head. A mild dry cocoa slowly opens and gets more roasted throughout the sip. Slightly thinner body then expected.
3.9 Bottle, 500ml. Opaque dark brown with a large creamy light brown head. Deep aromas of chocolate malts, floral hops. Medium to robust bodied, moderate carbonation. Smooth and creamy. Medium sweet, medium bitter. Spicy roasted flavors into a creamy finish.
3.9 Bottle, 500ml. A dark brown beer with a medium size brown head. Aroma is of floral hops, roasted malts coffee and a hint of mint. Taste is bitter with fizzy carbonation. Medium bodied with a roasted character. Smooth and somewhat dense, with a fresh minty finish.
3.9 Bottle. Pours dark black as expected. Aroma is nutty with dry roasted malts. Taste follows with a little chocolate and dry coffee finish. Pretty solid.
3.8 Dark copper, covering lace. Full body, intense flavor, balanced and clean mouthfeel, lingering aftertaste. Tart, bitter, off dry. Strong coffee flavor, tar. Great porter.
3.8 500ml bottle picked up at kraigs kegs. Pours out black topped with a tan head. Nose is roast malts some ashtray and a little coffee. Taste is more of the heavy roast malts chocolate some of the ashy notes.
4.1 Bottle kindly donated by Coldbrewky, the great, many thanks. Almost black color with medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, caramel, chocolate, light hops. Dark malt, coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, alcohol. Pretty good.

4.1 Bottle. Truly great, well balanced beer. Lots of roastiness playing along with some caramelly biscuity maltiness and balancing hoppy bitterness. All elements are in unique harmony. Fruity, cherries, prunes. Well attenuated, easy drinking. Great.
3.6 Bottle by Cuso, many thanks. Pours dark brown color, beige head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, nuts. Taste is sweet, lightly bitter, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, nuts, bit overcarbonated.
3.8 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with medium beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong roast, cocoa, floral. Medium body, dark chocolate, nice hop bite, light bitterness, very good.
3.8 Bottle. Nearly black and so what’s dense looking, thin light tan head. Roast, dark chocolate, cake, prunes in the aroma. Flavor is similar, bittersweet chocolate, slight fudge and cake, dark fruit and toast finish. Medium silky body.
