3.8 Bottle from Craft Brewed. Pours a deep brown with a finger of beige foam that lingers, then dissipates. Roasted malt, coffee and toasted vanilla bean on the nose. Smooth and creamy with lower than usual acridity on the palate. The vanilla is tasteful and smooths out the edges on this one. Lingering chocolate malt, vanilla and coffee notes.
3.7 Pint bottle. Very dark brown color with a nicely sized tan head. Coffee, dark cocoa, and roasted nuts aroma. Tastes of medium dark chocolate, oatmeal, other roasty flavors, soil, and creamy coffee. Nice easy stout to enjoy.
4.0 Bottle. Pours black with a small brown head. Heavy aroma of roasted chocolate malt with a touch of vanilla. Somewhat sweet with some silky chocolate and roasted coffee notes. The vanilla is a light accent. Full bodied and nice.
3.9 Nitro pour at the brewery. This looks beautiful at the outset but within five minutes it's borderline flat, which is kind of weird. Nice roasted grain, chocolate, coffee, and very very subtle vanilla. Other than the near flatness this has a nice texture. Sweet up front, dry and roasty on the back end. I feel like the bottle version might be more enjoyable. Update: Definitely prefer the bottled version.
4.1 Bottle (500ml). Black with one finger tan head. Nice strong roasted , almost Smokey malts. Bitter sweet chocolate. Very nice
4.0 29Sep2019 Dark chocolate, cacao, vanilla, toasted chocolate cookie. Hazy, very dark brown, medium, creamy, beige head. Light bitter. More dark chocolate, baking cacao, dark roast filter coffee, burnt toast bread, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Outstanding. Bottle from St. Gambrinus Beer Shoppe.
3.6 (Bottle) Dark brown to black body with a big lasting brown head that leaves a thin coat of lace. Aroma of coffee and chocolate roasted malt. Body is thin to medium with oily texture and some soft carbonation. Coffee and vanilla flavor.
4.0 500ml bottle at home. Dark brown pour, mahogany edges, lasting tan ring. Dark, roasty malt, bakers chocolate, burnt sugar, mild coffee notes, vanilla throughout. Soft carb, smooth texture. Finish is roasty with a burnt character. Excellent.
3.9 Black pour with a thick rocky beige head. Somewhat earthy and roasty nose with a kiss of coffee. Flavor is smooth and roasty dark with hints of cocoa, light vanilla and light coffee. Subtle and complex and charming.
4.5 500ml bottle. Roasted malt aroma with notes of dark chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Pours deep brown with a large mocha brown head that has excellent retention and some lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt and dark chocolate flavors as well as having a rich, full body and silky smooth mouthfeel. Finishes quite smooth with nice vanilla and a little bit coffee flavors. Wonderful stout.
3.9 500ml bottle - $7.99 at Sprayberry Bottle Shop in Marietta, Georgia. Appearance: Jet black body with half an inch of sustained sandy-tan foam. Smell: Roasted maltiness with a whiff of ash about it, a sizable hunk of unsweetened bitterish chocolate, citrus blossom and a subtle hint of vanilla bean. Taste: Restrained roastiness leads to dry chocolate and a light glaze of dark caramel. Hint of burnt toast. Growing albeit subtle sweetness. Minutely floral, very faint hint of citrus. Soft dark fruitiness. A ribbon of vanilla running through the brew adds a nice accent throughout. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Reasonably smooth mouthfeel. Overall: Pretty solid.
3.9 500ml bottle. Pours black. Chocolate, vanilla, coffee, prunes, orange. Good soft body. Excellent.
4.0 Restrained, subtle, and delicious. Chocolate, coffee, anise, and roast, layered with hints of dark fruit, caramel, and an unexpectedly light hit of vanilla. Dry--a nice change considering the cloy, indulgent stouts I've come across lately--with a lingering roasted fade. Really starts to open up as it warms, but remains dignified and tidy. Beauty in nuance and craftsmanship.
4.0 Poured from the bottle. Jet black with a tan head. Roasted malt aroma. Nice bitterness on the palate which seems to be more of a function of the roasted malt vs. the hops. A little bit of vanilla in there but I honestly thought there would be more. More flavors come out as the beer warms a bit.
3.6 500 ml bottle to snifter (bottled 01/29/19). Looks good; a lightly translucent very dark cola with foamy lighter beige head. Smells and tastes of dark malt, coffee, chocolate, and a bit of vanilla. Mouthfeel is medium-light to medium-bodied, moderately bitter and roasty, and finishes on the drier side for the style. Good, not great.
4.2 Dark brown. Medium-sized, beige head. Chocolate, roasted malt and light vanilla notes in the aroma. Medium body. Smooth with moderate roasted bitterness. Loved this one.
3.7 2/2019-500ml-$7.99 Distribution has allowed a year to pass before this brew met my hand. Probably I should be grateful for the ‘aging’. But I used to live a mile and a half from the brewery. Still. A lovely brew. Could be a bit ‘richer’ or thicker for me personally. I must stop in again and grab a case.
3.8 Hard to find too many stouts amongst the imperial and other big ones. Ive liked the american style with stout and belsl but this is nice. Stays malty and choclaty. Vanilla very subte.
3.2 Pours a nice brown black from a tap. Roasty aroma and flavor, pecan pie notes. Good beer
3.8 Coffee, caramel, roasted malts and chocolate in nose. Pours very dark brown with beige head. Taste is medium dry to medium sweet with coffee, chocolate and caramel followed by some roasted malts. Medium bitter finish, soft carbo. Overall very good. On tap at source.
3.5 Pours a very dark brown with a tan nitro head. Robust coffee, nutty and chocolate nose. Moderately thick and smooth. Coffee and dark chocolate flavors.
4.0 On tap at the brewery. It poured a black color with a tan head. The aroma was of chocolate, vanilla and roasted malts. The taste was similar to the aroma with more chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts with medium carbonation and a nice heavy aftertaste. Tasty.
3.6 (500ml bottle) Pours a dark brown body with a small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, malt balls, caramel, and toasted grain. Flavor of chocolate, bread, vanilla, and roasted malt.
3.8 Pours black with thick, dark beige head. Aroma is coffee, cocoa and a whiff of vanilla. Taste is dark chocolate and slight caramel, warming to coffee and a hint of vanilla. Finish is very smooth. An excellent stout.
4.4 Draft at The Ginger Man, NYC. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, subtle vanilla. Taste follows. Probably the best stout I've tried to this point.
3.9 On tap at Gebhard's Beer Culture. Pours black, medium beige head. Nice, light chocolate, coffee, vanilla, light roastiness, light sweetness. Soft carbonation. Smooth. Very balanced. Medium bodied.
3.8 Cask at the ginger man... Dark black.. Thin tan lacing.. Soft chocolate roast malts nose... Dry fizzy chocolate roast... Dark dry roast malts...
4.0 From bottle thanks to Thomas!! Black color with beige head. Roasted malty aroma, coffee, chocolate, vanilla. Moderate sweet and moderate bitter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.
4.6 This was a pretty good vanilla porter. We had it when we lived in Maine. We both liked it
