3.9 Toranomon summer tasting, thank you Dede for this. Champagne looking bottle, super carbonated and the yeast is super excited to get out of the bottle. Pours very foamy but it does come down relatively quickly. Very Belgian nose, sweetish toffee, light caramel and candy. Taste has lots of Belgian yeast, sweetish and spicy, belgian candy sugar. Medium body with medium bitterness. Alcohol actually well hidden, maybe carbonation does that. Good herbal bitter kick in the finish, dry and lingering. Pretty good one.
3.7 Not as rounded as hoped but good. Lots of dark fruit huge yeasty character. Needs time.
4.3 Appearance: Pours clear dark brown with a huge frothy off-white head that quickly dissipates, no lacing. 4/5 Aroma: Rich aroma of chocolate, nuts and wood, vinous, with spices, herbs, dark fruits, malts and caramel notes, and a slight touch of grassy hops. Woody aroma achieved a dominant position after oxidation. 10/10 Taste: Woody vanilla, chocolate, liquorice, herbs, candy sugar, roasted malts, cherries, berries, dark fruits, dried fruits and nuts. Subtle mixing of malty sweetness, hoppy bitterness and fruity sourness, quiet complexd and well balanced. Bitter salty spicy chocolately boozy warming finish. 9/10 Mouthfeel: Full bodied, somewhat hot and prickling without oxidation, mouthcoating, highly carbonated. 4/5 Overall: A woody chocolately enhanced Malheur 12, get much more complexd while maintain balanced. Need oxidation to make it rounded. 16/20
2.4 Bottle served in a glass, this ale was a very dark brown / red in the glass, there was a light tan cover, it left some spots and small fingers of lacing on the glass that rolled off quickly, it had dark malt aromas, dark bread, dark fruit – sweet & tart cherry, some prune and raisin, a little leather with wood and cork (the bottle was corked & caged), it had a chocolate note when first opened but was not noticed afterwards, it also had an old beer note that grew as I drank, this bottle had a Best By 2011 date on the label, this beer was way past it prime, the flavors were dark malt – dark brad, bread crust, cherry, dried fruit - raisin and prune with a hint of dry, dark cocoa, it tasted like an old beer, it was drying on the tongue at the finish, the mouth feel was more than medium, it had just a little creaminess, I was expecting more and I think it should have had more, I think the carbonation was a bit under done, but this may be because the beer was sold past its best by date, I could tell this beer was old, if you find a bottle of this with the same date you could try it to find out what an old beer smells and tastes like or had this beer with this date, you know what an old beer smells and tastes like, I do not recommend.
3.3 750 mL bottle shared by ebone1988. Best before end FO4/11. The pour is a darker brown/black with a thick off white/light tan head and a relative lack of lace as it falls to a collar and thin film. The aroma is interesting. There is a bit of chocolate and tart cherry up front with a very dry vinousness and a huge oak addition. There is quite a bit of alcohol on the end as well. The flavor is sharper on the alcohol. The vinousness takes over for sure. Very dry and oaky backs that up. The chocolate fades and the tart cherry is a little out of place. It’s not terrible. The mouth feel is a little heavier medium bodied with a brother carbonation and a lingeringly rough aftertaste. This is something else. Very boozy and almost rubber bandy on the finish. Not my thing. 7 4 6 3 13
3.3 Bottle from Holiday Market. Bottle shared with koleminer20, for the book. 2011 Vintage. Aroma is woody, red wine tannins, some deep cherry, some nuttiness, yeast, pretty complex. Appearance is reddish dark brown, light brown head, unfiltered. Taste is very dry, sweet cherries, woody as hell, red wine tannins, yeast, boozy, bitter roast, interesting. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy body, light carbonation, tannin heavy woody booze aftertaste. Overall, hard to pin this one down. It's good and not good.
4.5 (rubis, nez yeast-sucré, > cassis-mélasse, h2o, amère sublime, racine fine, sour-framboise, se complexifie, prune-terre)
4.7 Brown with tons of cakey tan head. Like the original 12 its got raisin and sweet malt, but with this the sweet almond champagne and different hop aromas clearly introduce new complexity compared to the 12. Banana, sweet malt, spices and strong champagne yeast throughout, lots of bubbles. Dry finish with tingling hops and that string of sweet malts bye and bye. Really cool beer, we had the 12 before and its really great, this one builds on that and its exciting and differemt. The hops are much more apparent and the mouthfeel is obviously more carbonated, which manages to harmonize with all of the flavors. Great beer.
3.5 750ml bottle at Alex's. BB 2008-01-15. Pours a clear copper with a weak tan head. Aroma is a bit corky with raisin notes. Similar taste, very sweet with lots of caramel and dark fruits. Candy notes in the end. Interesting.
4.9 0.75l bottle thanks to Cristobal37. Hazy orangish brown body with a beige head. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, orange zest, salt, dark sugar and rose water. Taste of cocoa, chocolate, hint of booze, salt, caramel and orange zest. Dry and highly carbonated. Super complex and smooth. Awesome.
3.5 Bottle at a tasting @ Koelschtrinker's place. Smooth malty beginning. Caramel, dark chocolate, grain, roasted sweetish caramelly malts. Sticky rich, round and deep, caramel, moderate bitterness, very interesting but a bit dusty.
3.7 Bottle shared at Koelschtrinker's place. A dark brown beer with a small off-white head. Aroma of sweet chocolate, riped fruits, honey. Taste of caramelish malt, nuts, riped red fruits, toffee, vanilla, nice.
3.6 Sampled from 0.75 l bottle from 'Bierzwerg', cellared for three years. Clear, dark brown to black with a large, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty and a little yeasty-spicy aroma of caramel, milk chocolate, licorice and some nuts. Moderately sweet, malty, slightly roasty, a bit yeasty-spicy taste of caramel, milk chocolate, coffee and nuts, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, quite dry, roasty and a little yeasty-spicy finish. Medium body, quite effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Very nice, but not overly complex.
2.5 Dunkler, malzig herber Antrunk. Starke Karbonisierung, süffig, moderat alkoholisch, langer Nachhall. Gut. 10/8/9/8//7

3.7 750 ml bottle shared by Corey. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a medium plus sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have ample dark fruits, raisins, chocolate, yeast, a doughy character, and a hint of spices, good.
3.5 Bie en bouteille de 75cl. Couleur ambré foncé / brun. Mousse beige. Nez grillé, chocolat noir, malt. Palais malté, touche de grillé discrète, pointe de chocolat amer. Ensemble corpulent, bien épais, belle effervescence. Good.
LECKER!
4.0 Bottle from Systembolaget. Fairly light smell considering the ABV. I got some wood, cellar notes, chocolate and dark malts on the nose. Similar taste, felt both sweet and dry. Malty and fruity with dried fruit. Boozy but not nearly as expected from this strong abeer.
3.9 Doft: syrlig, torkad frukt, choklad, rostade nötter. Smak: Torkad frukt, choklad, torr, söt, spritsig.
3.9 Flaska från Beernavigator drucken med ölföreningen. Tack Daniel! Gott.
4.1 From Belgium in a box; pours dark brown to black with a red shine and a giant off-white head; aroma is dried fruit, a hint of spice, some wine like notes, some alcohol; taste is intense fruity, great sweetness without being cloying at all, raisins, prune, grains, a hint of spice, something which reminds me of white wine, some tartness, has a warming gentle alcoholic finish; light texture with high carbonation
