Mammoth Double Nut Brown

Mammoth Double Nut Brown

Redolent of coffee and dark chocolate, Double Nut Brown is our amped-up version of a traditional brown porter. This dark ale combines a mild sweetness with a finishing roasty dryness, and is brewed with roasted, brown and dark Munich malts.

2.9 Bottle from Ales by Mail, drunk at home. Mid-brown, translucent with a a small tan head, most of which duly disappears. Lots of hazelnut, coffee and chocolate in the aroma. A bit of odd plastic scent as well. Tastes... hmmm. simultaneously sweet and sour with the sourness winning out. Not 100% sure it’s supposed to taste like this. Carbonation lifts the thin to medium body. Not much aftertaste but there’s a harsh lingering acidity. Odd and unbalanced.
3.1 Bottle at home. Hazy brown with small fizzy short lasting beige head. Looks a bit like unclear cola. There’s some light cola in the aroma as well, but more chocolate, blackberries, sour red berries, light dust and mineral. Light sweet and sour. Almost medium bodied with a bit dry and puckering feel. Probably infected, still not bad but also not very good.
3.1 Bottle, 5.5%. Very dark brown with small beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel, bread, hop and chocolate. Flavour is roasted malt, nut, bread, chocolate, medium sweet, caramel, little dry, notes of sourness and a little bitter.

3.5 On tap at Stateline with Patty and Kara. Pours a deep amber body with thick off white head. Aroma is cocoa, rich sweet malts and some grain and fruit. 2.5 Nice sweet malt flavor and aroma with toasty nutty notes. No hops to note. Mineraly finish that took away from the overall enjoyment.
3.8 Bought this on a whim and was very pleasantly surprised. Good flavors of mocha, coffee and roasted chestnuts. Nice beer for after work on a Spring day
3.7 A new brewery for me, courtesy of a trade with paiste2002. This 22 oz. bottle pours a mostly clear transparent brown with a thin-moderate tan head that lasted through the first two sips and left partial lace. Very pleasant aroma of nuts along with some chocolate. Just a hint of coffee present as well. The flavor is predominantly nuts with malt. There isn’t that nice chocolate presence that I find in the aroma. Mild bitterness at the finish. A little bit on the lighter side of medium bodied.
