Mammoth IPA 395

Mammoth IPA 395

An ode to the Owens Valley and the Highway 395 corridor, this Double IPA is distinctly bolder than out Epic IPA and celebrates the aromas of wild local fresh hops, sage, and juniper.

4.5 IPA biondo-aranciato con un solido cappello di schiuma bianca. Balsamica, freschissima, le erbe aggiunte si sentono moltissimo. Setosa, dissetante.. buona!!
3.9 22 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a moderate off-white head. Very pleasant aroma with noticeable juniper berries and sage along with some citrus and malt. The flavor is more about the malt and hops and less the juniper berries and sage, although they are both still present. A touch of caramel sweetness to the beer as well. Mild-moderate bitterness at the finish. Medium bodied.
3.3 355ml bottle. Barely clear, redd-ish, dark copper colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Herbal and citrusy hoppy aroma with bath salt touch, hints of juniper, lavender, sage. Taste is herbal and citrusy hoppy, minimally soapy, hints of juniper, lavender, sage.
3.3 Sampled from bottle at Kingsnight Avoidance Tasting. Clear orange amber with offwhite head. Very herbal, sage, sweet and funky, licorice sticks, sweaty, onion, musk. Mostly herbal, light sweet, light bitter, light sour. Medium body, oily, low carbonation, yeasty finish.
2.8 Bottle shared at Kings night avoidance tasting. Clear amber with a small off white head. Aroma is big herbal, sage, light fruits and sweat. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Light medium bodied with soft carbonation.
2.6 Bottle at Kingsnight tasting. Clear amber with off white head. Lots of herbs, onion, sweat, sour gooseberries, lots of sage. Under medium sweet and light sour. Medium bodied. Way too herbal for me.
3.3 33cl bottle shared at Kings Night Avoidance Tasting. Thin white head. Clear amber pour. Herbal bitter aftertaste
2.4 From bomber to glass. The sage takes over this beer and makes it hard to drink. Moderate low aspects of cookie malt. Clear amber-orange with full off-white head. Ended up dumping this one.
3.2 355ml bottle at home. Hazy dark orange with a full white soapy head. Medium body with low to moderate carbonation. Herbal sweet and bitter tones. Juniper, flowers, herbs, soap, citrus and hops. Too herbal IMO.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty spicy sage and juniper hoppy aroma. Fruity malty spicy hoppy bitter sage flavor. Has a fruity malty spicy juniper and sage hoppy bitter finish.
3.5 Flarra hos Biskopen Helsingborg. Mörkt rostfärgad . Doftar gammal källare ja en rätt tung men svag doft. Medelfyllig i munnen. Medelbeska. Smakar väldigt klassiskt rent Dipa. Eftersmak lite vatten faktiskt.. Nja en rätt trisst men ok Dipa. Testas ihop med All Inn Big blind . Åh härrejövlar vad god Big blind är. En svensk Dipa mycket bättre än en USA Dipa. !!!!!! Fantastiskt ju
4.1 Bottle. Two finger frothy beige head. Clear copper coloured body. Aroma is weak, but malt dominated, even at high temperatures. Some floral hops as well, but not too hoppy. Very well balanced on the tongue!
3.6 Draught at Mammoth Lake Brewery. Light amber colour, offwhite creamy head. Interesting nose with juniper berry and sweet herbal notes; in the taste they’re less prominent, medium caramel malty, big bitterness in the finish. Good body, medium carbonation.
3.4 Beer pours reddish brown with a nice head. Aroma has a mild citrus with some hops. Taste has some toasted malts with some floral notes. Mild bitterness on the finish. Pretty good beer.
3.2 Hazy orange pour with 1 finger creamy, rocky head. Funny juniper nose.. Some pine too. Caramel malt but not a lot of hops. The taste follows suit with that funny juniper thing resulting in a peculiar aftertaste. Like when you breathe out after drinking a dram od whisky. So oak, booze and again some juniper and berries. The finnish is the most representative of an ipa. Weird.
3.4 Pours a light copper color with a juniper and sage aroma. Taste is smooth with an easy drinking malt flavor. Flavor is a little sweet, with a well balanced aftertaste. Nice and enjoyable.
3.5 Tap, orange pour, white head, nose and taste are hoppy, citrus, oranges, good
3.9 12FL OZ ($7.99 4 pack) this was a pretty smooth Imperial IPA. usually these are over the top bitter and this was rather tame. I won’t rate it low as I was expecting and looking for a tuff IBU but as a beer this was pretty good. If you’re seeking that tuff IBU this isn’t it but this is very good.
2.8 Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks Rotem. Clear amber with a bit stable head. Smell of sage, juniper, chamomile and fruity hops. Taste of juniper, quite malty with herbal bitterness, medium-bodied, all in all not very balanced.
3.5 Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks Rotem. Clear dark bronze with a yellowish head. Honey, herbal and a little cinnamon aroma, honey and juniper bitterness in the mouth. Sticky and full-bodied, onion finish.
2.3 Well it looked beautiful in the glass. A gorgeous amber-brown with a big clumpy off-white head that has oodles of crazy lacing and fantastic retention. But, the rest is shit, poor aroma, taste and palate.
2.2 Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks Rotem. Clear orange with a beige head. Aroma of juniper, a bit of sage, and stale hops. Sweetish flavor with malt, a bit of marmalade, juniper, soapy, stale hops, and strong bitterness. Medium-bodied.
3.8 12 oz bottle. Tasted on 6/10/15. Bottle from Alisha. Drank from Spiegal IPA glass. This one was a different IPA with the color almost purple with a unique flavor.
3.2 Dark brown color. Malty and hoppy notes in the nose. Strong hop and malt sides balances out quite well. The aftertaste is dry tart and almost a bit roasty.
3.6 Amber color with white head. Aroma of loads of resinous hops, sage, spices. Taste is resinous, spicy, the sage is there, warming bitter finish. Smooth carbonation, heavy mouthfeel. Very good!
3.5 12 oz. bottle, pours a fairly clear dark reddish amber with a medium beige head. Aroma is very spicy, with loads of sage upfront, followed by some juniper and woody resinous hops -- it’s mostly spices on the nose though. Flavour is certainly unique for the style, bringing out the sage upfront, followed by woody resinous hops which bury the spices later on the finish. On paper, this sounds like a bad idea, and upon smelling it, it also seemed like it’d be pretty bad -- but this is actually quite nice. Balanced, hoppy and drinkable. Very good.
3.3 Poured from a bottle, San Diego. Disclaimer: I threw this one in the freezer, and there were some ice chunks as I did not take it out soon enough. Powerful aroma of fresh hops. Mild head, dark reddish brown for an IPA. A lot of fresh hops in this, very strong hop flavor.
3.6 Dark amber/brown color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of malt, floral hops, rye, & rich spice; Flavor of sweet malt, caramel, pine hops, spice (sage), and citrus. Finish is bitter; Nicely balanced; Different but good - the spice can be a bit much at times though.
3.5 On draft. No particular aroma, which is a surprised. Flavor starts with sage but the juniper dominates everything at the finish. Hard to ID hop flavors beyond tart citrus, but they’re obvz there. Weird but fun.
3.7 Reddish but clear pour from 22oz bomber from bine and vine. White head, thin ring. Smell is gingerbread, cookie, and sweetness. Sweet and sugary, honey, slightly fruity. This doesn’t seem at all like an IPA to me, but it is tasty, not sure what i would categorize it as otherwise. Rating based on taste/aroma.
