3.2 Cask at the Cloisters. Pours clear dark brown with a thick beige head. Aromas of chocolate milk, nuts. Taste is more chocolate milk. Faint bitter, cocoa finish. Sweet linger. A little bit thin.
3.0 CASK @ STATE BAR Glasgow POURS A DARK BROWN WITH A BEIGE HEAD AROMA IS DARK CHOCOLATE TASTE IS CHOCOLATE AND THATS IT TRY ONCE
3.8 On cask at Marble in Chorley. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla, roasted grain on the nose. Same to taste with a hint of dark fruit like blackberry. Creamy. Dry and coffee-ish in the finish. Lovely porter in my brother’s new "local". Wish it was mine.
3.6 Cask at The Earl Grey Inn, Leek. A deep brown colour with a medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, marshmallow, slight earth and subtle blackberry. Taste of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, some marshmallow, slight blackberry, subtle red berries, a little caramel and some woody, earthy tones. Medium bodied and a smooth texture. A smooth, roasted, fruity bitterness in the finish. Started off like a roasty stout but became fruitier and creamier. A nice, smooth porter.
3.4 Aroma: liquorice, chocolate, toasted malts. Appearance: dark brown, small, beige, frothy head. Taste: light bitter. Palate: bitterness continues, toasted malts, chocolate again. Overall: nice Porter, well-balanced overall. Bottle from Independent Spirit, Bath.
3.2 Opaque black color with a small tan head. Nice chocolate and mild roasted aroma. Medium (light) body and a soft carbonation. Ok balance between sweetness and bitterness. Chocolate, coffe and mild roasted flavor. Felt a bit thin at 5,5%. [On tap at Marble Arch Inn in Manchester, England]
2.7 Cask at CASK in Pimlico. Bit too watery of palate, not much chocolate at all although a pleasant coffee taste. Bit too thin all round though, disappointing.
2.9 Cask at sheffield tap. Dark brown/red with foamy cream head. Aroma of chocolate (natch) and a bit of smoke and some mocha notes. Taste is sweet and dry with a short lived bitterness. Quite a light body with slightly prickly carbonation.
3.5 Cask. Gravity dispense. 57, Thomas Street. Clear, cola brown. A few bubbles of off white head. Dark, fruity chocolate. Light, roast coffee. Taste is fruity dry. Gentle bitterness. Light, fruity tartness on the palate. Stays smooth. Decent body. Finishes light dry, and light bitter. Tasty porter.
3.7 On Cask at Manchester Beer Fest. Pours dark brown, thin lacing of tan head. Aroma of Chocolate and some sweetness. Taste of Marshmallow then dark chocolate, some smokiness, very chewy, very thick. Touch of vanilla too.
2.7 Clear deep darknrown, minimal brown head. Toffee, milk chocolate, coffee, perhaps a hint of metallic. Watery, with cocoa beans and milk chocolate, hint of burnt wood. Chocolate aftertaste.
3.6 Bottle from the brewery webshop. It pours a dark brown color with a medium tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee, licorice and dark chocolate, overlayed by pine cones and wild berries. Taste is medium bitter roasty and medium tart fruity. Notes of black berries and red currants, pine cones, coffee, dark chocolate and roasted wood. Medium body with good carbonation. Overall, good porter
3.4 On tap at the Marble Arch, Manchester. A black color and a medium-sized dense head. The aroma features roasty chocolaty notes, as expected; malty notes dominate. Taste is sweetish with soft, round maltiness emphasizing chocolate. The palate is barely medium-bodied but velvety in texture with a flat to average carbonation. Decent, if a bit basic chocolate stout.
3.5 Dark brown/red with a decent head. Malty and chocolate aroma. Flavour is nicely balanced between milk chocolate and roast. A solid beer.
3.4 Bottle@aibf14. Dark brown. Roasty malty, dark chocolate, some woodyness on nose. Light bodied, but quite nicely flavourful. Brown malty, dry finish. Surprisingly good. -- bb
3.3 Bottle at the AIBF 2014 no 1 cons 2014-11-14 Göteborg AR: dry chocolate, wee coffey AP: hazy brownm wee beige stouthy head F: dry choclate, liqurice, dry, tar , - good traditional brown ale (not a porter or stouth according to the brewer)
3.5 Hand pump at Cask and Kitchen, London. Pours black with a small off-white head. Sweet with a light dryness. Mellow and fruity aromas of milk chocolate and notes of apples and hazel nuts. Medium to light bodied. Very soft carbonation. Light dry finish.
2.6 Sample at a local tasting event. Hazy dark body with a low head. Malty, but quite thin for a porter.
3.5 September 5, 2014 at The Southampton Arms (visit #1) - handpull. Clear deep brick red with a smallish lasting mottled tan foamy head. "hmm ... hmm ... hmm ..." - smells and tastes like a chocolate/light coffee mild - not a ton of body, but plenty of taste - more baker’s chocolate than Nestles - and a surprising amount of grassiness once you adjust to the chocolate presence - and hardly any alcohol on the nose either. Thinnish and still mouthfeel, and the bitterness does build past the finish - still plenty of cocoa in there at the end - easy to drink, but not amazing.
3.5 Cask at the green Berry deal, Kent. Aroma is rich chocolate liquor, with earthy berry hop and some alcohol. Flavour is nutty choc, slightly rich with touch of coffee and hedgerow hop. Palate is medium full and good cask condition. Tasty beer.
3.4 50 cl bottle in Teku. Pours a small off-white/beige thick head; dark brown to black colour. Nice roasty, smoked wood, dark chocolate, and coffee aroma. Tastes roasted malts, cocoa and licorice. Light bitter and coffee long afterstaste. Almost lively carbonation, light to medium bodied, very drinkable. Flavours are not at the same level of aromas, would expected something tastier and more punchy
3.7 Chocolatey aroma with dark dark red black colour. Hardly any head. Extremely chocolatey taste with a bitter aftertaste which lingers on the back if the throat.
3.6 En cask au Craft Beer Co.: Des notes profondes chocolatées très longues en bouche avec des résidus houblonnés qui se fondent avec l’amertume de chocolat noir. Corps moyen, buvabilité moyenne.
3.4 Cask at Old Fountain, Old Street. Sweet, slightly thin. Drinkable, but lacks the power which the abv should bring.
3.5 Tasted at the Craft Beer, Clerkenwell. Very dark brown in colour, but not a stout. Lovely chocolate richness and cocoa oils as an aftertaste. Chocolate and liquorice aroma.
3.5 Cask at Marble Arch, Manchester. Dark brown shade with tan head. Pleasant aroma featuring cocoa and vanilla. Impressive chocolatey taste with a nice little roasty kick midway through. Palate a touch thin but serviceable. Definitely one of the better chocolate beers I’ve had.
3.3 Cask at the Cask, Pimlico, 29/01/14. Extremely dark mahogony brown/light black with a moderate tan cover that dissipates to a swirl and edgework. Nose is earthy cocoa, toffee, dark fruit notes, raisens, light roast. Taste comprises sweeter chocolate than the nose suggested, vanilla, dark fruits, light roast. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Ok stout but I expected more from Marble.
3.6 Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Very very dark with a thick off-white head. This has plenty of nut in its taste with a modicum of chocolate in its aftertaste. Lots of roasted malts in its flavour but not as much in aroma.
3.7 Dark brown with a thin head. Has a light body, not too sweet but well packed with chocolate malts.
3.5 Pours a dark colour, taste is rich and chocolatety with some malt, a fairly decent beer
