3.7Keg at Brewdog Shepherd's Bush as Marble Decadence, 10.5%. Good to catch up with this one. Pours a dark brown with a slight red hue, big dense foamy brown head endures and leaves thick lacing. Aroma is fruited dark chocolate, cocoa powder, dark fudge. Body is smooth and rounded with soft to tingly carbonation. Taste is vanilla, fudgey, earthy, little charcoal, spicy finish with a little resin. Quite nice. (8-4-7-3-15=3.7)
3.8Keg at BD Mighty Boost, 01/02/18.
Light black with a decent tan cap.
Nose is roast malts, chocolate, light coffee, dark malts, brown sugars.
Taste comprises molasses, brown sugar, toffee fudge, chocolate, mellow roast, light charr, dried fruits.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a rising boost.
Solid well balanced impy stout.
4.12017 vintage. 27Jan2018 Dark chocolate, cacao, burnt, dark malts, dark roast coffee. Clear, very, dark brown, massive, creamy, beige head. Medium to heavy sweet. More sweet, dark chocolate, cacao, dark, burnt molasses, burnt sugars, sweet, dark roast coffee, soft carbonation, full bodied. Outstanding, slow in the aroma, rich thereafter. Keg at BrewDog, Shepherds Bush.
2018 vintage. 25Jan2019 Sweet, dark, toasted malts, burnt toast, chocolate, cacao, sweet, dark roast coffee. Hazy, very dark brown, small, creamy, beige head. More sweet, dark chocolate, coffee, filter with loads of sugar, burnt toast, cacao, soft carbonation, full bodied. Outstanding, rich and complex. Can from the brewery, Manchester.
4.1Can from Salt Horse. Pours black, thin white head dissolving down from initial foam. Big coffee and roasted malt aroma, some booze in the nose too. It's really dry which I like - no thick oily impy here. It's complex - lots of deep coffee notes, charcoal, treacle. A bit of booze heat in the back, which lifts it rather than overwhelming it. Excellent.
4.1Black with thin head. Aroma has a touch of wood and alcohol. Flavour has bittersweet roasted malts and burnt cream. Thick lucious texture.
4.2Can purchased from Red Elephant Beer Cellar in TRuro. On can reads "Packaged in Nov 2017" so I am guessing this is quite 'young'. Pours thick oily black with initially medium tan foamy head which quickly settles but leaves retention throughout. Atoma is rich, full of sweet roasted malt, licorice, coffee, a touch of soy sauce and I also pick up some banana... maybe that's just me. Taste is roasty bitter but not too strong, nicely balanced with some sweetness and ever so slightly tart (perhaps as the beer is so young). Slick feeling in the mouth with just enough carbonation to liven it up. Long lasting and pleasurable finish. This is a fine Imperial Stout!
3.1Style et résumé: Imperial stout un peu vieux.
Comment: Dégustation Manseau 2016. Vintage 2009.
Note: 6+/10
3.8(Marble Decadence) Bottle 750 ml, corked an caged, served into a snifter at home, ABV 8.7%. Thanks goes to Beersiveknown, cheers Steve!
Black coloured body with one finger of beuge head on top, good density and retention.
Aroma of olive pit, liquorice, faint chocolate notes.
Taste of roasted malts, burnt wood, faint chocolate, light liquorice, nice fruity notes and quite bitter.
Medium body with soft carbonation, very dry palate.
Nothing extreme but honest and very drinkable.
3.4Bottle 750ml.
Pours jet black with low-medium beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma is of chocolate, roasted malt, mint, ashes. Taste is of chocolate, roasted malt, acidity. Palate: Full bodied. Soft-medium carbonation. Overall: OK.
3.1Bottle (750 ml) shared at tasting. Vintage 2009. Thanks to Alex for this one! Black with a medium beige head. ok retention, leaving little lacing. Flavors of roasted malts, citrusy notes, perfume, liquorice, molasses and cardboard. Taste is mildly acidic with very little sweetness and mild bitterness. Medium body, but it’s starting to feel a bit thin. Moderate carbonation. Mildly tart and spicy finish. Not much alcohol presence. This one was definitely too old. Not super complex. Tartness is awkward even for an european stout but still fun. Ok.
3.2Vintage 2009 donc étiré quelque peu. Mélasse élimée, une sorte de tabac, des gorgées qui révèlent une fumée et/ou un côté cendré. Corps qui porte les stigmates du temps. Enfin, j’imagine.
3.1pours unclear dark brown, red tint, with a small light beige cap, some lacing. perfumey alcohol, liquorice, purple violet flowers, light disturbing acidity, roasted grains, clean. moderate carbonation, light to medium body - oily; lightly tart (!) spicy finish. ugh.
4.0Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt & hops and notes of coffee and chocolate. Taste follows the aroma. Long bitter finish. Well balanced. Medium body.
4.5Full rich breautiful black stout that’s thick and rich with flavour of dark mocha, chocolate, coffee and deep rich malt. An amazing beer. It’s a desert in and of itself.
4.1Cask at the hanging bat. Pours black, light roasty chocolate, rich, slight liquorice. Tanned way too many of these on my birthday 2 years ago.
3.9Bottle. Black with tan head. Aroma of licorice, caramel, some light chocolate and coffee, not very roasty for imperial stout. Similar taste, licorice, coffee and chocolate. Silky smooth and clean
4.2A fantastic glass full of flavour, sweet and bitter, fantastic mouthfeel. Great example of this style.
4.1Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This inky black beer pours without any sort of head. It has rich chocolate, warming raspberry, sherry and vanilla flavours with leather and oak on the creamy, lightly smoked finish.
3.9Poured from a bottle it is a dark brown with a slight head the aroma is sweet chocolare the taste is of liqour and lingers withba mocha taste
3.9From a 75 cl bottle shared at home. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of licorice and chocolate. Flavors of cocoa and tobacco. Smoky finish. Tasty.
4.0Good Russian imperial stout, but somehow I expected more from it. Good beer, but not brilliant.
3.4Marble Arch, Manchester 27 Jan 13. Svart. Lavt, litt farget skum med litt lacing. Søt & god sherryaroma med hint av lakris. Smaken balansert. Litt svisker. Kaffe. Sjokolade. Lakris. Litt tørr syrlig ettersmak.
3.6Bottle to glass. Black pour with a strong staying thick khaki head. Nose is sweet raisins, dark chocolate, fudge. taste is dark chocolate fudge, sweet fruits, a bit boozy. A lot of carbonation in here. Long sweet finish. A little thin bodied, but it’s good.
3.9750, corked and baled. Pours black with a dense and creamy dark tan head. rich sweet chocolate nose with mild notes of dark pitted tree fruit in the background. Creamy thick body with soft carb. Chocolate, cocoa, coffee, and plum mid palate. Long dark roasty finish.
3.0Pours jet black with no head. Aroma of malt, slight chocolate and roast. Taste is malty, bitter, roasty. Kinda one dimensional. Not too exciting.
4.2Drunk this now many time, bottles at home and on cask at The Vintage, Leith. This is a fantastic beer. Subtle and balanced. Subtle in this way is not a bad thing. The chocolate, coffee, caramel, tobacco, apple, liquorice and toffee flavours and i’m guessing many other flavours are all subtle and balanced. This is a top notch beer.
3.8750 ml bottle purchased at Oliver’s Beverage Center, Albany. Label reads best before 4/28/2013. Pitch black color with thin tan head. Nose is roasted malts, licorice and ash. Flavor is big English malts with deep roast, burnt day old coffee and a touch what tastes like smoked malt. Even with it a touch past it’s prime, still real decent.
3.8Bottle 750 c&c shared by Marcus. Pours dark brown/black with a slight transient dark tan head. Aroma is smoky, mildly fruity with mildly oaky, smooth burnt malt. Med body. Flavor is mild fruit, wood, smoke, dark malt. A very laid back IS. Quite nice. Subtle is the word.
3.9Bottle from Healthy Spirits. Pours near black with a disappearing tan head and a burnt malt aroma. There is a complex flavor that includes treacle, chocolate, smoke and a little coffee.
