Marble / Odell / Stone Megawheat Double IPA

Marble / Odell / Stone Megawheat Double IPA

Kick back and crank it up as we’ve done all the brewing…the we being us and the special guest appearances of two heavy hitters in the indie craft beer industry: New Mexico’s Marble and Colorado’s Odell. Credited with 58 years of brewing chops, our trio built their wheat ale foundation on the classic “C” hops. Then, we rocked a pure hop triad of “M” hops to achieve a supercharged succession of orange, tangerine, lemon, lime, spice and dankness. The undulating riffs of Motueka, Mosaic and Mandarina Bavaria hops slash through the wheat haze with equal footing, never playing over one another. The cacophony of flavor is what fans would expect with a name like Megawheat. So join us as we forge ahead on a path that directly leads to the main stage…and then off the front of it, into the crowd!

If you feel the urge to smash the bottle afterward, don’t. That’s what guitars are for.

3.5 [9099-20170317] 1pt6floz bottle. Orange leafy grains and citrus aroma. Slightly hazy, orange body with a medium-lasting creamy white head. Grainy bitter hops and leafy green twig flavour. Medium body. Good. (7/3/7/4/14) 3.5 (c/o mds, w/ him, jercraigs)
3.8 amber color; hoppy aroma - citrus and tropical fruit notes; lots of citrusy hops with tropical fruit notes on a creamy, soft wheat base
3.7 Bomber. Golden with a hint of amber hue. A big level white head. A complex hop aroma is kind of all over the place. Flavor is also hop centered. Wheat is kind of mixed with other malts and is not really noticed. This beer is about the hops. And they are good.
3.8 650ml bottle from the now defunct Malt Shoppe in Tosa, shared by all on poker night. Hazy orangey pour. Foamy off-white head. Hoppy. Sweet fruity. This is Double Gumballhead. The wheat is a player, but solid strong hops. Solid, tasty if 4 months old. ck1 says a bit of a disappointment. 14.2
3.5 Bomber. Pours a light orange amber with a thick white head. Aromas of caramel, hay, pine sap, apricot, and orange. Bready, syrupy sweet, a bit of warming alcohol, bitter hops, and fruit juices. Body is medium with medium carbonation. Bitter filmy finish.
3.7 Aromas of cracker grain and citrus from a very slightly hazy medium yellow/orange body. Creamy wheat body and alcohol hit quickly followed by a nice honey sweetness. Juicy citrus bitterness with pineapple and orange flavors pop through. Body is full for such a light looking beer but also somehow watery. Finishes bitter and sweet with a lasting alcohol bite. Interesting DIPA.
4.0 8.4%ABV. Double IPA. Poured out gold. 6SRM. Nose has pine and jackfruit estery sweetness. Mouthfeel is soapy and syrupy. Palate has caramel, corn syrup, candy, honey, Hops are cilantro, scallion, pine needles, sap, hint of bitter melon. Finish is medium-long. Resinous.
3.5 Bottle. Amber beer with a cream head. Grapefruit and light lemon aroma with light wheat. Wheat and orange flavor with grapefruit. Medium bodied. Orange and grapefruti lingers with wheat.
4.1 20-APR-2017, draft @Stone Brewing Berlin, @Celebration of Dank event, part of a flight, with Ulkløbben on "Then We Take Berlin Tour". Slightly hazy golden with a lasting, lacing, off-white head. Sweet, though still mostly a West Coast style IIPA. Touch of wheat, tangerine, flowery. Nice one.
3.7 651 ml. bottle. Pours a thick, well retained, light ivory head, over a slightly hazy gold (SRM 5) effervescent, body......nose is light tropical fruit tones, with hints of citrus, primarily tangerine, orange, lemon, also melon, light dankness all from the hops, moderate wheat, balance to the hops.....taste is slightly floral honey sweet, moderate bread, cracker, from the malts, tropical fruits with orange, tangerine, light melon mango, finishing with moderately light bitterness.....mouth feel, medium slightly sticky body, slight alcohol warmth. This is a lightly bitter I/DIPA, the hops and malts are sufficiently complex in aroma and flavor to make an interesting but different and very soft beer within the style. Above to enjoyment, below to classic style. BJCP 8/3/14/4/7
4.0 Pours clear topaz with a thick, though not long-lasting, cream head. Aroma delivers resiny hop, wheaty, and yeasty tones. Bold flavor offers resiny and only slightly bitter hops, zesty wheat, hints of citrus and yeast and pear. Mouthfeel presents firm body and soft, peppy fizz leading to a hoppy and fruity finish. Mega-taste!
4.0 Bomber - pours s nice clear med golden yellow with s thin off white head. The aroma is kinda unique with a meld of tropical fruit hops, very light citrus, caramel malt and wheat notes...so nice. Quite delicious with lots of flavors - tropical and pit fruit hops, bready wheat, orange zest, hint of caramel and a balanced yet bitter finish.
3.8 Pours clear light orange with small head. Aroma: very interesting and intense aroma of ripe tropical fruit, a bit of mango and peach. Taste: nice thick taste of orange, mango, peach. Very good.
4.2 From a bomber. Pours a clear medium gold and makes a medium white head and a bit of lacing. Smells lightly of hops and heavier of crystal malts and wheat. Taste is of wheat and malted barley. There is a lot going on here, folks. And it is all good!
3.5 Draft from Daily Growler, UA: gold pour, whiteish head. aroma of wheat, tropical fruit, spice. tastes are caramel, resiny, toasted malts, wheat, grass. ok.
4.0 On tap at Owen's Ordinary in North Bethesda, MD. Clear gold with a 2-finger creamy, cream-colored head excellent lacing. Aroma of sweet tropical fruit, citrus (especially tangerine), pine, caramel and white bread. Taste of sweet tropical fruit, pine, tangerine, caramel and white bread. Medium body and medium carbonation with a smooth mouthfeel.
4.1 Bomber from Cap Tap. Pours gold with a creamy/foamy white head. Aroma has it all. Sweet malt; pine; pale fruits; citrus, something like wheat whiskey. Med +body. Flavor is somewhat sweet caramel with all the forgoing aromas contributing to flavor. IMHO it’s more hoppy barley wine (ok, wheat wine) than DIPA. But that’s just me. Liking this very much.
3.8 Draft at Max’s Taphouse. Pours golden with a white head. Leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. Has some solid pine and citrus on the nose. Lots of pine Hop flavor on the tongue. Finished crisp and clean. Doesn’t seem that heavy abv wise. Solid!
3.8 bottle. very unique and tasty beer. a lot of flavor going on. definitely want to try again
3.8 Poured from tap at York River Landing golden copper with a nice white head and nice lacing. Aromas of sweet fruit and bread malt amd floral notes. Taste is caramel tropical fruit bread and nice pine finish.
4.2 From the 650 ml. bottle that has a smudged bottling date of January 2017. It has a decent looking golden amber, heady pour with lacing on the side of the glass. This is a couple months old so I’m not sure how much of the character has faded but I still get a solid dose of nectarine or other juicy fruity aromas with a subtle soft white bread note. The body is medium. The taste has the same fruitiness but it ends with an intensive biter finish.
3.9 It pours golden with an off white head. There is a fair amount of lacing with moderate head retention. It has aromas of grapefruit, tropical fruit (pineapple like), and citrus. There is a wheat around in the background. The flavors are a combination of fruitiness and bitter hops. Tropical fruits are in the forefront which provides a sweet flavor with citrus, wheat, lime, spice, and tangerine. The finish is sweet and then bitter and dry which lasts long into the finish. Overall, this is a flavor burst of citrus and tropical fruits that provides a moderate bitter punch with a bit of sweetness.
3.9 Bomber pours a slightly hazy golden orange with average white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma has citrus and tropical fruits, wheat, and pine resin. Each sip brings out a flavor I didn’t notice in the previous sip. Taste is sweet and fruity at first, before the dry, slightly dank finish. Body is medium with soft carbonation and a silky mouthfeel but without any alcohol burn. This is one of the lightest IIPAs I’ve tried, and one I’d love to try again.
3.3 Bomber. Orange pour, slightly hazed, with a white head. Sweet, wheat, orange, caramel, mild bitterness, and a bit fruity. Meh, ok, not amazing.
3.4 Bottle. Pours golden orange with a white head. Citric hop base, some flowery notes, mild malty sweetness, marmalade, and a spicy hoppy finish. Not bad.
3.5 Thin off white head of fine bubbles with light carbonation. Light citrus and straw aromas with some wheaties cereal and floral hops. Color is a medium gold with good clarity. Strong hops presence in the flavor and a bit sweeter than expected. More straw, lemongrass, herbal hops, rye and dandelion greens. Light alcohol presence. A little dry and chalky at the finish. A pretty tasty brew.
3.4 22oz bottle shared by Bob! Pours a hazy dark orange color with a small foamy white head with some floaties on the bottom. Aroma/flavor of old oranges, herbal hops, tea leaves, wheat, tangerines, and caramel malt.
3.8 On tap. This drinks dangerously smoothly. There’s a gentle, citrusy wheat sweetness and a lot of fruity hop aromas, but, except for the tons of hop presence, there’s very little to suggest that this is over 8%.
3.4 A 22 oz bomber, bottled on 9th January 2017 and to be enjoyed by 6th April 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass. It was a clear copper orange colour with a two finger white head that had great retention and nice lacing. Aromas of orange flesh and peel with hints of honeydew melon. Tastes bitter with lots of citrusy orange peel and pith, pine, dankness and hints of apricot plus melon. I’m also getting a tinge of alcohol here and there. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall this was ok, but mainly, I’m just not fond of getting any sort of alcohol booziness in any IPA, and in this case, I kept getting a tinge of just that, here and there.
4.2 Bottle. Poured with a rustic, woodsy orange color, nicely-sized head (so to speak). The aroma is intriguing ... earthy, spicy, outdoorsy. Drinks with a well-muscled build, meaty and hefty. The aromas carry to the flavors, musty, dank, gristy, yet also with a hint of a citric kiss. Quite nice. (#6541, 3/21/2017)
