4.0Bottle shared by dark guardian. Clear brown pour with an off white head. Sweet caramel malt aromas. Sweet and smooth with all kinds of caramel malt and dark fruit notes. Good mouthfeel and body. Well done...
3.6Aroma of wet hops, herbs and brown sugar. Deep brown color with a magenta tint. Flavors of brown sugar, ground cinnamon and some lightly fruity hops. Overall, this is a fairly basic barley wine with some brown sugar and rich toffee/caramel sweetness. There is a slight alcohol sting on the finish. Not bad. I’d give this a B+ rating.
3.6Poured from 22oz bottle into a pint glass. Rich dark amber color, cloudy with creamy dark head. Smells great with malty spicy notes. Taste is malty sweet caramel with nice finish. Smooth and tasty. I need to try this on tap next time.
3.7Bottle. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is malt, caramel, alcohol, dried fruits, fruit. Flavour is malt, caramel, alcohol, hop, spices, dried fruits. full body. Nice beer.
3.6Shared bottle with friends. Poured a light copper color. Aroma was citrus, with a touch of tart fruity notes. Slight funk perhaps. This one was very smooth, with just a touch of funk notes along with sweet malts. Interesting. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. Nice.
3.5Pours a hazy and brown beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is malt, sugar, fruit and notes of dried fruit. The flavor follows the nose with additional alcohol. The palate is sweetness with alcoholwarmth. Overall a good beer.

3.7Bottle 650ml @ yngwie
Pours cloudy deep amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, alcohol and dried fruits. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and light bitter. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
3.5Bottle. Pours dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of bread, spices, rye, alochol and maløt. FLavor is sweet and varming with some nuts, caramel, alcohol and dried fruits.
Medium to full body, soft carbaonation. Somewhat sweet and alcohol rich barley wine.
3.9Bottle. It pours a small, beige head over an unclear reddish body. Some alcohol in the aroma, along with caramel maltyness, dried fruits and some hoppyness. Citrus hints, pine cone notes and a lightly spiced touch. It’s full-bodied, lightly warming and quite silky on the palate. Nice balance between maltyness and bitterness and hoppy flavors. In comes the alcohol and adds more joy and smoothness. Overall, maybe a bit on the sweet side, but I still think it’s a really pleasant and tasteful beer. 120324
3.2Pours a hazy brown with an off-white head. Sweet with aromas of caramel and hints of marzipan and alcohol. Full bodied. Medium to soft carbonation.
3.9Poured by the man himself JOE TUCKER. Dark cola pour . Aroma is bourbon and brown sugar. taste is also similar.
3.7Hazy copper with a small off-white head. Malty aroma with toffee, along with some pine hops and dried fruit notes and quite a bit of alcohol. Sweet toffee and biscuit flavour with fruity hops and a firm bitterness
3.9(Bottle) Pours pale mahogany brown. The aroma is big time caramelly and toffee-like malty with fruity undertones of prunes and figs. Bit nutty on the nose. The flavour is medium to heavily sweet and light bitter with notes of caramel, toffee, nuts and dried fruits like prunes and figs. Really malty in the flavour as well. Some grassy hops. The mouthfeel is round and light sticky with a soft carbonation. Medium to full bodied. Leaning more towards England than the US.

Bottle, bought @ Voldby Købmandsgård.
Clear red chestnut with a small, creamy, beige head. Aroma has caramel, light chocolate, some resiny hops, pine, vinious. Some raisins. Lowish carbonation, fine creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is mild resiny hoppy, lots of caramel, toasted, light milky chocolate. VInious and warming. Light hoppy finish. Fine beer.
4.222 ounce bottle purchased at Sunflower Market in Roseville, CA. The aroma on this is pleasant enough. Somewhat sweet with some raisin. I also get some leather and tobacco in the nose, too. Nicely aromatic. Moderately hazy amber body with a medium-ish manilla colored head. Starts sweet with some brown sugar flavors, which mirrors the aroma. Becomes a little roasted and burnt in the middle with leather and tobacco notes present. Ethanol is well-hidden. Definitely an English-style barleywine. I could see how some people would think this is a little too sweet. Somewhat reminiscent of Steve Altimari’s Old Inventory, and that’s a real good thing!
3.7Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear ruby color with a moderate frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruit, earthy hop aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy dark fruit bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid complex beer.
3.7clear dark brown, smooth offwhite head.
rathier mild old ale aroma, slight fruitiness, some malts.
flavor is very dry dark caramelly, normal to sweet malty, faint dark chocolate, faint cristmas spicy note. Also a flavor like the dark fruits in a belgian quad. Raisins, plums. A barley wine with a flavor profile that resembles brown ale a bit, but also lends from other heavy brews (except the roasted ones), pretty complex and quite tasty. I’d put it down as an american strong ale instead of barley wine. The hop profile is very subdued, and doesn’t add much flowers and even not much bitterness for an american brew.
3.2Bottle. Dark copper/brown with small beige head. Flavour is malt, caramel, dark fruit, little bitter, vinous and hops.
3.8Bottle [22oz] shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- c/o HogTownHarry. Pours a dark amber-brown with an average size semi-lasting frothy beige head. Nice fruity aroma along with caramel malt, some chocolate, toffee, wood, spices, alcohol and more. Flavour of dark fruit, slightly sweet and malty, along with yeast and light hops. For a 9% beer the alcohol is quite well hidden. Medium bodied. This is very good stuff!
3.922oz bottle shared with blankboy and garthicus. Deep ruby pour, looks thick, average frothy tan head. Solid caramel malt toastiness, plenty of alcohol, waves of green grassy/resin bitterness - yummm. Taste - all that, but hot DAMN, raisin/prune and way more sweet tastly malt. Love it. Thick, a bit acidic, strong alcohol, frothy and airy, a long boozy/malty/fruity finish. Different, I really like it.
3.8Thanks to HogTownHarry. Appearance: Dark red, medium yellow head. Aroma: Caramel, Blackcurrant, alcohol, sherry, wood, slightly spiced. Flavour: dark fruit, lots of wood, prunes, raisins, alcohol with a caramel finish. Nice.
2.8Bottle at Jan & Charlottes tasting, Ulfborg, Denmark 09.04.11 cheers Jan & Charlotte Murky chestnut brown with a light beige head which soon disappears. Some fruit n the nose, heavy sweetness and a bit harsh in the mouth. Bittersweetness coming through, not as smooth or as rounded as the description suggest. A5 A3 T6 P3 Ov11 2.8
3.7Bomber purchased a year ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($5.49). Pours a dark brown with bits of red and two fingers of fluffy light brown head. Aroma of figs, raisins, and other sticky overripe (even rotting) dark fruit, caramel, molasses, a hint of booze, and perhaps some faded hops. Flavor also of sticky dark fruit, berries, toffee, and some spice; also some roasted malt notes emerging late. Surprisingly, this is far from being overly sweet, and the sweetness actually fades into the finish. Nice English-style barley wine. (188, 518)
3.4Bottle 22fl.oz. @ UK-SCO Tasting in Ulfborg.

Flavor is light heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110409]
3.3Bottle @ J & C’s, Ulfborg. Thanks. Pours unclear amber with a small creamy white head. Nose is sweet of alcohol, caramel and fruit. Smooth and full bodied. Quite sweet. Warmth. Lack complexity. Ok

3.4Bomber, 2009 vintage, picked up at The Bottle Barn in Northern CA.
Pours a deep, dark copper color that is completely opaque with only faint dark orange/mahogany edges and a 1.5 finger frothy yellowish beige head. Pretty good retention, slowly fading into a nice lasting ring that leaves sporadic spots of lacing behind.
The nose of this beer is still surprisingly hop forward with hints of earthy pine and dank, resinous oils as well as subtle hints of citrus fruit balancing out the sweeter malt notes. Earthy and lathery with lots of caramel and toffee as well as some biscuit and faint dark fruit, mostly fig and raisin. Slight alcohol but doesn’t smell overly boozy.
Medium bodied and again, this beer is surprisingly still very hop forward. Unfortunately the hop profile isn’t as complex as the aroma suggests. Earthy and bitter with lots of dry piny flavor but there isn’t any of the sweet citrus character that I was expecting to add depth, complexity or balance. Underneath, there is a nice leathery malt backbone with prominent caramel flavor as well as hints of toffee, biscuit, raisin, fig, and grape. The ABV is well masked with subtle boozy sweetness but not much in the way of heat or warmth in the finish.
Overall, this beer is decent and pretty quaffable but it isn’t as complex or balanced as I hoped with the strong hop presence overpowering the other flavors a bit too much.
