Marin Point Reyes Porter

Marin Point Reyes Porter

Like the old porters of Ireland, our porter is super-rich and velvety. It is deep brown in color, with richly roasted and chocolate-y flavors. Like all Marin Brewing Company Ales, this contains no preservatives and is not heat-pasteurized.

3.7 Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a huge foamy brown head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was cola, toasty malts, cocoa and vanilla. The flavor was toasty malts, coffee, cola, cocoa, vanilla and a bit of sweet cream. Medium length toasty cocoa, coffee and cola finish. Moderately full bodied. Nice.
3.7 Bomber into glass at dekbar.. Black pour, brown head..aroma of coffe and wood, taste is very smoky.. I like it, hints of raisen..some grape wine..
4.0 22 oz. bottle. Aroma is dry dark chocolate with hints of dark fruit/cherries/raspberries. Many stouts are lighter in color than this beer. Head retention is excellent and lacing covers the entire glass - makes for a very appetizing pint. Taste is dry dark chocolate and a very nice, rich mouthfeel, slight caramel sweetness, and hints of berry following through to the finish. Slight char flavor which would really hit it off with a nice blackened steak. Very nicely balanced. Hops are very low and balance is mainly achieved through the roasted malt. An excellent robust porter.
4.0 Use caution when pouring-forms a huge persistent head. Nice and dark. Super smooth and velvety. Very nice!
3.7 22 oz. bottle via BA trade about 6+ months ago. Didn’t want to wait any longer. Pours a dark, mostly opaque, brown with a small beige head. Aroma of chocolate, toast, nuts, mild roast, and even a hint of dark fruits. Flavor of chocolate, earth, nuts, toast, and pit fruit. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a toasty, nutty mouthfeel. Very solid porter.
3.9 Tap at Marin. Very dark pour with a frothy brown head. Huge rich chocolate, cocoa, and roast on aroma and taste. Outstanding porter.
3.8 Tap: pours black with medium tan head with aromas of roasted grain, chocolate, and burnt toffee. Flavor is big with roast grain that brings in some bitter tartness and a very light caramel sweetness. Palate is lightly sweet, with smooth bitters and tarts. Flavorful, will have more.
3.4 On tap at Cafe Reyes in Point Reyes Station, CA. Opaque, near black brown. Arrived at table with no head. Fair lacing. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Taste cocoa and coffee with bit of toffee flavor in the finish. Above average body and carbonation with a creamy, soft foamy mouthfeel. (Not thin at all as reported by most reviewers of the bottled version.)
3.9 Dark brown colour. Aroma and taste of coffee and chocolate. Body a bit thin, but still very good
4.2 Thanks yiannos for sharing it with me. Nice black color, with a good bubble head. Aromas: strong coffee and chocolate Taste: same with a dry long finish. Medium body. Not so thick, but good enough for a porter. Very nice
4.0 Thanks to GatorGuy92 for the share on this one. Cheers, Matt. Pours a medium brown color with an off-tan head. Nose is cocoa, baker’s chocolate, chocolate malt, and some roast. Flavor is similar with cocoa, unsweet chocolate, and slight roast. Finish is a little dry with bits of cocoa staying for a bit. At 6%, I could have a few of these.
3.7 Draught in point reyes. Opaque Brown pour - chocolatey aroma. Some mild coffee. Good for a windy night on the ocean
3.3 Bottle from a trade a while back with a fine southern californian. Zero carbonation here. unfortunately I would like a little more fizz so as not to feel so bland and unexciting. The roasty coffee flavor is nice though. Burned toast and faint fruit aroma. Flavor is quick and mostly that coffee aspect. Good but not great here.
3.8 Tasted on 5/19/11 from a 650mL bomber bottle purchased at Sun Devil. Pours opaque dark cola brown with a thick tan head that slowly recedes to spotty lace. The nose is more sweet dark chocolate than anything else, along with mocha coffee, cocoa nibs, and a good amount of roasted bitterness. The flavor is not sweet, but a bitter and roasted combination of cocoa nibs, dark chocolate, mocha coffee, and roasted malt. The body is medium and creamy with average carbonation and a long bitter chocolate and mocha coffee finish.
3.6 Served from a 22 ox bottle from OTM. The appearance is a creamy chocolate brown with a nice lighter medium brown head. The aromas are chocolate malt influenced with a cereal grain and medium roast malts. The flavors are some good chocolate malts, toasty malts, light tobacco. The mouth is a solid medium bodied with a definite drying feeling. The aftertaste has this empty thinness to it I don’t care for. Overall a well above average porter.
3.7 Dark chocolate pour produced a latte-colored head that left some spotty lacing. Aroma shows notes of cocoa, roasted coffee bean, vanilla, and caramel. Flavor follows suit with a bit of toffee and brown sugar as well, lending their sweetness. Medium mouthfeel...not a thick as one would like for the style but doesn’t take away from the overall enjoyment.
2.3 Opened the bottle and it gushed and exploded all over my carpet and continued to slowly escape from the top in the sink for some time. Nose is coffee and chocolate and some malts. The taste is sweet at first then finishes dry. Overall didn’t taste that bad like it was sour but wasn’t a great presentation and the carbonation ruins the mouthfeel and taste.
3.3 Bottle 22fl.oz. @ [ The Pool Tabel Tasting in Rome ]. Clear dark black brown color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white to light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, toffee, chocolate. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20101219]
2.9 Bomber; thanks to toncatcher for the trade; pours thin dark brown with trace tan head; aromas of oats, some nuts and old coffee; texture is thin and a very faint sourness; flavor profile also very thin with mild roast, chocolate and oatmeal; light coffee with faint sourness again in the backend; a strange porter with a possible QA issue to me; bad luck recently for me
3.6 Black with a decent sized beige head. Aroma is of roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, and chocolate. Taste is of roasted malts, coffee and cocoa.
3.6 Pours dark brown with a brown head. The aroma is smoky with roasted malt, cocoa, licorice, and berries. The flavor is very smoky with red grapes and cocoa. It has a burnt ashy finish.
3.6 On tap at Toronado. Pours a pure black color with a small white head. Low carbonation (was it on cask, I think so). A rich aroma; light coffee, roasted malts. The flavor is smooth, rich coffee, light milkiness, chocolates. Solid.
2.7 Pours an average amber/brown with an aroma of cocoa chocolate. Flavor is smoky and earthy vegetable. Average and tingly on the tongue. Too earthy.
4.3 Pours a luxurious deep brown to almost black with gigantic tan head. Nose is outright amazing with roasty malts, and some bacon bits like aromas too from all the roast. Lighter bodied than anticipated, but there’s a smooth and rich roasty flavor that carries through nicely. It’s surprisingly drinkable for all that roastiness. Nice beer.
3.6 Poured from Growler, fresh today! Dark Brown with small dark tan head that dissipated quickly. Nose was chocolate, malt, and the taste was on the sweet side with just minimal bitterness. Medium to thick body. Overall a decent porter, on the sweet side.
3.3 Growler from the brewpub, thanks to larryLSB. Close to black, but relatively transparent with red edges, and a small beige head. Creamy chocolate aroma with just a little roast. Generally sweet with chocolate malt flavors, some caramel, touch of roasted malt, and very subtle hops. Medium bodied with low carbonation. Pretty clean, but not very interesting.
3.9 On tap at Toronado. Pours dark brown with a rich tan head and a chocolate and coffee aroma. There is a nice chocolate malt flavor, not quite as rich as it looks, but still quite tasty. Nice brew.
3.7 Plenty of chocolate in the nose with some underlying roasted malt character. Almost opaque dark brown body with ruby highlights topped by a tan-brown, fine bubbled head that lasts well. Sweet chocolate flavours play off roasted and fruity notes in the flavour. Medium body is velvety smooth in texture with light prickly effervescence to offer counterpoint. Overall, quite an enjoyable porter. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at Brewery Creek in Fall 2009.
3.5 Bomber. Pours black with brown tinges, and huge, foamy dark-brown head. Aroma is sweet malt, with some chocolate and roast. Flavor is heavily roasted malt, chocolate with a little sweetness, and bit of acidity from the roasted/burnt malt. Velvety mouthfeel. Pretty solid.
3.4 On tap a few weeks back; I believe at Blue Palms. Poured a very dark brown color. Aroma of cocoa, dust, chalk and roasted malt. Flavor was sweet, with some milky notes, caramel, cocoa, and roasted malt. Chalky, sweet and smooth. A pretty solid beer.
