3.5Bottle: deep brown, light head and moderate lace. Very dark roasted nose with coffee, chocolate and brown source. The aroma is good but verging on bringing burnt or too heavily roasted. Dry to off dry, not sour and low bitterness. The palate is creamy but lacking in depth & complexity of flavor.
3.6On tap in SF. Pours black with a nice clean even ring of a tan head. Aroma is roasted malts and heavy on the chocolate. Flavor is similar. Lots of sweet chocolate. Fairly creamy mouthfeel. Very solid.
3.5Keg at Ballast Point Little Italy, 12/11/14.
Black with a decent tan covering clearing to a swirl.
Nose is big roast malts, light charr, chocolate, dark toffee.
Taste comprises bitter roast, earthy cocoa rub, liqourice, dark toffee fudge.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
Decent stout.
4.0Geruch nach Röstgerste! Leicht sauerer Geschmack aber gute Restsüße. Solide und lecker,
3.5Tap at Mane Liquor. Pours black with a rich tan head leaving nice lacing. Nose is vanilla-esque with mild coffee, plenty of roast, slight dirt and toffee. Taste is very vanilla forward, almost essence but without sweetness dominating before the coffee and heavy roast come through. A note there reminds me of white chocolate. It has a mildly warming heat to finish showing its abv. Not a crazy stout in any way and fairly sweet forward but a solid drop
3.9"it does have a nice flavor and a creamy texture, but calling it an imperial is a bit of a stretch. judged as a straight stout, though, it’s very good. well balanced and flavorful."
3.8Bottle. Very dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is hearty dark malts, chocolate, coffee. Similar flavours. Light hops come through. Dry finish. Good.
4.0Bomber shared. Poured dark brown to almost black with mocha colored head. Aroma deep and rich roasted dark malts. Hints of chocolate, coffee, licorice and oats. Amazing aroma. This flavor is outstanding deep dark roasted malts heavy body chocolate, licorice, and oats. This beer rivals breakfast stout from founders. Excellent.
4.3Siper, particularly for such a low ABV. Awesome coffee aroma, followed thru by a roasty flavor with a hint of chocolate. Just a drip of sweetness. Not bitter. Dry finish. Recommended!
3.7June 10th, 2012 - The first Marin beer to really leave a deep, sudsy impression on me was the San Quentin Breakout Stout. No doubt the style itself is responsible. I tend to lean to darker beers when brew shopping. But this Marin stout exhibits a lot of complexity and detail that I didn’t detect in a couple of their other beers, such as their IPA. Lots of oatmeal stout style sweetness hits the nose on the front, and the light earthiness of button mushrooms is also present. What these softer smells belie is a hardy, savory stout in the flavor. Rich contours of barbecue and ham have a strong presence in this beer, with ample notes of bacon and maple, almost like an exaggerated novelty bacon based beer, but without the gimmick and the gross. This is strong, but still speaks the language of beer, and tastes good going it too.
4.1Wow this is tasty. Pours black with brown layered head. Chocolate and milky taste. Malty smooth and overall almost perfect stout for these taste buds
3.6Excellent nose with a lot of nutty, chocolate malt. Very well balanced taste - neither excessively sweet nor excessively bitter.
2.2Bottle. Pours that is a shockingly, keyboard destroying gusher. $4.99 bomber I have had for a while. Took some time to get a pour that wasn’t all head. Aromas are of roast, dark chocolate and metal. Iodine, currants, dark fruits, lightly acidic aromas. Flavors are of metal, bitter leather, roast, iron, horribly metallic, rotting dark fruit. Lively carbonation. Clearly infected, I’ll re-rate, but I am not happy to the damage that this did to my key board. Disappointed to say the least. Generous rating.
3.5Nitro at Beachwood Seal Beach. Clear deep red highlights on near black. Nose is savory, steak, soy, smokey. Dark chocolate milkshake. Taste is thinner, harsh Scotch barrel and burnt red apple. Huh, started strong but ended weak.
3.5Pours motor oil black with a foamy tan head that dissipates to a ring quickly; sparce lacing. Aroma is toasted marshmallows, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and a touch of burnt toast. Taste is sweet with undercurrents of bitterness that come out more in the aftertaste. A bit thin for a stout, smooth carbonation. Decent brew. On a side note, I did not notice that the bottle is labeled "Live Ale - Keep Refrigerated!" and I kept it in my basement for a good 2 weeks before drinking it at about 58-60 degrees. I don’t know if lack of refrigeration affected the quality. In any case, cold stout is just weird.
3.8Draught @ Marin Brewing Company, Larkespur, CA
Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long chocolate and coffee finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
3.7On tap at the brewpub. It pours a dark brown body and a dense dark beige head. Lots of coffee in the aroma, some chocolate and burnt malts. Dry, full-bodied, with a soft carbonation. Coffee dominates the flavor too. Some toffee and some chocolate too. Lasting finish. Perhaps a bit too focused on coffee, but hey, it’s a breakfast stout. 130806
3.7On tap at brewpub. Pours black with a small team head. Aroma of chocolate, grains, roasted malt, coffee and caramel. Flavor is sweet and roasted with some chocolate, coffee and some caramel. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.8Bottle from Warehouse Cafe in Port Costa, CA. Lots of coffee and chocolate.. malt. Really good stout.
3.9Pours black with tan head. Chocolate, coffee, caramel and roasted malt aromas. Creamy chocolate and roasted malt flavors with a hint of coffee. Short roasted finish.
3.7Poured ar marin taproom. A very nice stout. Pours a thick brown-black with a light brown head. Smells of vanilla and cream. Taste is great, malty, very smooth and creamy, with a roasted coffee finish.

3.8Bomber - Pours oil black with a thin tan head. Nose is milky, medium roast, graham crackers and a bit of vanilla. A touch of heat as well. Taste is chocolate, marshmallows, roasty dark malt, and oatmeal. Silky body, a bit thinnish with smooth carbonation. Straightforward and very tasty--very drinkable.

4.0On tap at brewery. Aroma is of roasted barley. Flavor is similar. Very basic stout and I love it, very focused on the barley, no crazy chocolate or coffees. Palate is smooth almost like it has oats. Very nice.
3.9Huge, creamy brown head. Deep brown/black in color. Great bitter coffee on the palate and in the nose. Slight cocoa nibs in both as well. Beautiful beer to behold.
4.0Aroma- huge roasted notes, coffee, chocolate, toffee
Appearance-pitch black with a stark white head, some lacing as well
Taste- incredible black coffee and roasted notes upfront, some slight vanilla in the mid-palate, and more soft roastiness on the finish
Palate- full-bodied, but very soft and sensual
Overall- Wow, this one’s a winner for sure. Insane amount of roasted barley and bitterness blends incredibly with the vanilla and slight chocolate. Wonderful!
4.2Bottle with jndubbs.. aroma is cardboard and chocolate... some minor hints of prune and smoke .awesome stout
4.4Looks black, thick and oily with coffee coloured head. Has a thick texture that really coats the palate. Powerful roasted malt flavour with hints of coffee/espresso.
