3.8 Pours thick and syrupy with a nice orange body and a off white head. Aroma is sweet pancake syrup, wheat, coriander, spices,. Flavor is quite sweet, and nectar like with wheat, hops, and spices hidden behind the viscosity. Not bad........... but wow is it syrupy.
4.8 Golden color with a standard head that reduces slowly leaving behind a bit of pancake spatter. Smells of sweet malt, stone fruit pulp and green apples. Full nectar with creamy residual effers. A sweet malty backbone that is supported by a defined hop bittering component. The flavors are very fresh and absolutely delicious. Very drinkable.
3.0 Bottle… Hazy golden ale with a small, creamy, white head. Decent retention. The spicy, grainy nose offers a good bit of strawberry yogurt – unless it’s supposed to smell this lactic, this bottle of beer is infected. Full-bodied with a motor oil mouthfeel and tickling carbonation. The flavor and finish are sweet, moderately bitter and lightly acidic.
3.3 Sample at the brewpub on 8/8/10. Clear amber pour with a thin white head. Grainy nose with syrupy sweetness and tart fruit. Syrupy thick and sweet flavor with caramel, wheat malt and a bit of hop.
2.4 Pours a medium yellow, nose is fruity, peach, sweet, taste is table sugar and not much else. no complexity, just sweetness.
3.7 22oz bottle shared with garthicus. Slightly hazy amber with an average off-white tan frothy-foamy head. Smells of cereal grain, alcohol ... simple, nice. Much like a standard "normal" American barleywine, but not sugary or overly hoppy - it’s just strong alcohol and solid grain, with some fruitiness but not all that much resiny bitterness. Good, solid body, a bit of astringency, and definitely a bit boozy in the finish, but I was impressed - having said that, I think I was DRUNK by this point, but I still liked it quite a bit.
4.1 A: snifter. pours a bright vibrant orange with some yellow. nice yellowish orange head. good retention rate. splotchy lacing. S: a lot of citrus from the wheat, big honey aromas. the smell reminds me of the orange glaze on the ham for xmas. T: very nice wheatwine. good honey and citrus malt flavors. a nice alcohol burn. M: very warming. mild body. good carbonation level. very rich and smooth. D: one bottle is enough for me. it is a great brew to share with a couple of people.
2.9 Tap at the brewery. Hazy light gold color. Thin white head that fades unit a translucent film on top of the brew. Not much nose; faint wheat sweetness. Taste is boozy and hot. Not much flavor. Moderate palate. A disappointment.
3.2 Thanks to HogTownHarry. Appearance: cloudy orange with a big snow white head. Aroma: strawberry, malt, lemon, spicy. Flavour: like a triple, malt, banana, tangy pepper, mango, yeast and a long yeasty finish.
3.5 Bottle courtesy of Todd at drowland organized tasting @ Proof. Gold pour. Dough, caramel and dark fruit aroma. Sticky sweet taste - honey, toffee, vanilla, wheat. Covers the alcohol well.
3.4 7/23/10. Thanks to AskDrTodd for sharing! Pretty mild and sweet wheat aroma with lots of sweet malt. The flavor is extremely sweet with an actual hint of hop bitterness as well. Not bad.
4.2 A clear yellow-orange brew with thin lacey white head. You can smell the hops before the bitterness hits your tongue. Very creamy texture and you can feel the heaviness of the malt. Nice caramel and butterscotch overtones, but there’s no hiding the fact that this is a "wheat wine". The bittering hops really grip your tongue and have an almost "rubber mat" aroma and flavor (is there any Simcoe in this?) with some piney flavor mixed in. The alcohol actually feels like it could be higher than the 9.2% that’s reported. You could really freak out someone who doesn’t like craft brew by giving this to them without telling them what it is since it looks so light but is heavier than a lot of stouts. Very unique and well made beer!
3.3 @PilsnerPeters Thanks dickinsonbeer-22oz bottle-pours a thin white head and yellow color. Aroma is sweet light malt. Taste is sweet light malt, secondary herbal hops.
3.2 Bottle at Peter’s 2nd annual spring gathering. Orange with ring head. Orange liqueur aroma. Orange soda liqueuer syrupy with spicy finish. Ok.
3.1 Bottle at Pilsner Pete’s RBSG. Pours apricot in the glass with little white head. Nose and taste is citrus, bubblegum, honey and wheat.
3.1 Bomber; thanks Tom!! Pours hazy glowing orange with thin creamy white head; sticky wheat with honey and white sugar; drinks with a slight harshness and husky finish; sharp honey, stale wheat and sticky going down; eh
3.6 Pours a slightly hazy honey golden color with generous white head. Nose has a bit of alcohol snap to it, but otherwise has some pepper and bready notes. Sugary dessert flavors are noted on the palate, also reminds me of cardamom and cookies. Alcohol presence is again noted, though it is still syrupy and enjoyable. Finish is sweet and herbal.
3.7 Good beer but a bit harsh. Bright, transparent, yellow-gold with a small white head. Lots of sugary malt, mild wheat spice, a bit of caramel. Flavor is a tad sweet, boozy and bitter. Also, rich and finishes fairly clean and dry. Not nearly as sticky as it could be. Pretty good beer and I can see raising my scores in the future. I’d recommend giving it some time in the glass to warm up and lose some carbonation.
3.0 This beer really isn’t for me or i was kinda already way too buzz rate anymore but thick head and orange -red
2.6 Gold pour with just a faint white head. Aroma is stale spicy hops, candy sugar, pickles. Flavor follows through with the aroma. I pick up a little bit of foot and some alcohol. Finishes very sweet, big alcohol presence. Decent carbonation for the style. Disappointing.
3.2 Bottle 22fl.oz. Unclear medium amber orange color with a small, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel wheat, vintage, moderate hoppy, orange, cherry notes. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light. [20100110]
3.7 22. pours a cloudy dark amber with bright orange at the edges. creamy white head that fades quickly away. enormous peach and honey nose. caramel, toffee, honey, and peach mid palate. mild lingering peach and apricot finish.
3.7 Powerful beer. Dont get confused by the Wheat Ale label, this is a big powerful barleywine. Really well made, really packs a malty punch. Good brew.
3.4 On tap at Monk’s Kettle. Pours hazy gold with a thin white head and a pleasantly sour aroma. There is a mellow wheat flavor, sweeter than I expecected, with just a tinge of peach-like sourness.Nicely carbonated.
3.4 Tasting at Papsø’s Hazy amber color. Nutty and sweet caramel aroma. It has caramel flavor with some sweet toffee; regular bitterness. Plain.
3.0 Bottle at Papsø’s - Thanks. Cloudy amber - white head. Sweetness, toasted, bisquit, cookies, knækbrød, fruity, licorice, nice llight hoppy.
3.0 11th October 2008. GABF. This version 10.0% abv. Clear gold beer. Wheaty malt. Not too bitter. Not much else to say!
3.5 Bottled. An amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has strong notes of malt, caramel, bread, alcohol, and wheat. The flavor is sweet with notes of thick caramel, malt, hops, straw, alcohol, over ripe fruits, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.
3.0 Cloudy amber with a medium beige head. Sweet malty aroma with caramel and hoppy notes. Sweet yeasty flavour with malty and caramel notes. The hops kicked towards the finish.
3.5 22 fl oz bottle. Pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is mild fruity, vague dusty malty and light wheat estery. Solid caramelish and fruity flavoured. Light bitterness. Fruity and wheaty dense finish. Smooth fruity and lasting impression.
