2.9 Aroma of hops with a hint of cabbage and hazelnut. Okay white appearance with a golden body. Flavour has average nutty notes with sharp hops. Medium on the mouth, aaand a perfectly okay IPA.
3.0 Bottle 50cl / Botella 50cl. @ El Corte Ingles, Sevilla, España. A: Light amber / Ambar claro. T/S: Malt, caramel, slightly bitter / Malta, caramelo, ligeramente amargo.
2.8 Bottle (Staffordshire IPA), gift from Tom. Clear golden body with a thin white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of grain, underripe pear and earth. Flavour of sour grain, tin foil and grass. Thin to medium body with a watery texture. Sharp and astringent. Not great.
1.7 First ever rating and what a beer to start with.... Appearance is none existing as well as the aroma it is just not surprising or challenging in any way. Not a beer I would recommend, but happy to be here on Ratebeer!
2.4 Very generic with an aroma of malt and caramel. Not something I would recommend.
3.1 Bottle from Marks and Spencer Team Valley. Pours dark golden colour with a very slight head. A nice well rounded flavour, crisp fruits, biscuit
3.6 Marks&Spencer’s version : Staffordshire IPA. Light amber body headed by a white foam that fades quickly. Aroma of hop, grass, sweet orange; floral. Quite fruity, sweet, round; buiscuity, malty; not dry, not very bitter but body is rather medium than light; finish is a bit metallic. Probably a bit far from what is expected from the style. Anyway I enjoyed it.
3.1 A clear dark orange body with a minimal white head. Nose has some earthy and musty hop aromas, as well as some sweet cookies and caramel. Taste is quite sweet and malty with a moderately bitter bite on the finish. Medium somewhat creamy carbonation and full palate. A little boring but a solid english IPA.
3.5 As M&S Staffordshire IPA, dry-bitter, light fruit notes, some hoppy spiciness, an excellent EIPA.
2.5 From the M&S in Berko. Pours a clear orange/brown with a cream colored top. The smell is toasted grain, fruit, citrus. The taste is toasted grain, caramel, herbal, some citrus ending dry and toasty. The body is light+ with active carbonation. Meh
3.8 Aroma: citrus, cookie, cherry, lemongrass; Taste: intense bitterness, medium sweetness, medium sourness. Palate: full body, slick texture, average carbonation, bitter finish Drinkable, mouthful, slightly too sweet.
3.0 F: very thin white, quick gone. C: dark gold to amber, clear. A: weak malty, some hops. T: malty, with some like grassy hops, then quite long bitter finish on the palate, more bitter than IPA, but above average beer, medium body, lower carbonation, good beer.
3.0 I found this ale in M&S. Quite average, not bad, refreshing. One more positive point of the day. B@H
2.9 Fľaša 500 ml z Marks and Spencer, ako Staffordshire IPA. Zlatá farba, krémová biela pena, chmeľová aróma. Vyššia rezkosť, horkasto nasládlý nástup, prázdnejšie telo, pomaly doznievajúca horkosť. Pomerne slušne piteľné pivo.
3.7 500 ml bottle as “Marks & Spencer Staffordshire IPA” bought at M&S in iSquare, Tsim Sha Tsui. Looks: Clear amber colour; One and a quarter finger head and crumpety white foam which lasts for 2 minutes; Very good sticky lacing and quite fizzy carbonation. Aroma: Fragrant ale malt, with caramel, light molasses, thick bread, dough, light lemon and very strong fresh cut grass. Taste: Mid to strong sweet rich Ale malt, with strong metallic, sulphur, strong caramel, toffee, faint dark fruits, strong molasses, spices, dry biscuits, dough, strong yeast, strong lemon, fairly strong bitter hops and strong sharp grass. Body: Mid to light body. Slick and creamy palate. Mouth Feel: Wholesome Ale maltyness with strong caramel flavor, slick and smooth. Strong metallic, sulphur (Burton water?) and spices really make things interesting. Not much fruity taste but the toffee and molasses pretty much fill any void. Biscuity and lemony as hell. Lovely! Hoppiness: Light lemon and strong fresh grass in nose. Strong lemon, spices and strong fresh grass in taste. Bitterness is progressively strong as beer warms for a lasting, strong astringent bitter-sweet finish. After Taste: Dry; Nice strong bitter and sweet to mouth. Comments: The Burton water plays a significant role in amplifying its grassy hopiness, but it’s the wholesome maltyness, strong caramel and smooth dry palate really impress me from the get-go. Colourful, bold and bash all the way, a highly enjoyable ESB!
3.3 (Marstons India Export) Bottle 500 ml shared with vipinvelp, thanks! As Marks & Spencers Staffordshire IPA) Light amber colour on the body, white frothy head with average retention, good activity in the glass. Aroma of caramel, citrus, light toffee. Taste follows, light citrus, caramel, toffee and floral notes. Medium thin body, good carbonation. More like a bitter but good.
3.2 Bought at Marks & Spencer under the name of Staffordshire IPA. Very nice beer, has a good bitter and drinks easy.
3.1 Clear yellow, white foam head, small lacing, short lasting. Light hoppy aroma, small bitter taste. Typical English bitter. (Velp 201506)
2.9 Lovely aroma. Really lovely golden appearance. Rather disappointing on the palate and to the taste. Earlier Rating: 1/20/2015 Total Score: 2.9 Lovely aroma. Really lovely golden appearance. Rather disappointing on the palate and to the taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
1.8 Staffordshire IPA, 5.5%. Amber coloured beer where eventually a thin witte head remains. The aroma is fruity / hoppy. The main flavor is slightly citrus with him obviously supt sterile manner the bitter present, but also sweet. In the bitter aftertaste lingers in your throat. Nice beer. Kruiden, citrus
3.1 Bottle from Marks and Spencer, Enniskillen [040515] Amber, clear, frothy white head, some lacing, dissipates to thin layer Aroma of soft minerals, soft fruits, dab of zest Taste of caramel malts, soft bitter minerals, hint of toasted malt, slight marmalade, some caramelised orange, some soft zest does counterbalance the minerals Palate - Soft carb, medium body, quite rich. Quite sweet. Finish of caramel, soft fruits, dab of bitter hops Overall - Not a fan of these mineraly beers, but this wasn’t too bad. OK. Didn’t find it as bad as other reviewers here
3.0 Bottle as staffordshire. Pours copper with medium head. Aroma is alcohol, barley and cereals. Taste is bitter with sweet malts.
2.6 500 ml bottle as M&S Staffordshire IPA. (Marks & Spencer) Gatwick Airport, England. Clear deep amberish golden colour with a small head. Sweetness, malt, mild bitterness, mild floral hops and some cereal dryness in the aroma. The flavour is quite mild with sweetness and maltiness. Very typical English style IPA.
2.8 Bottle at home. Pours clear golden, nose is toffee, lemon, taste is similar, sweet, dry.
3.0 Bottle at home. Clear golden pour, white head. Aroma of English ale, slightly grainy, some murky hops and a bit of caramel malts. Flavor is slightly bitter, watery and with some solid caramel malts. Simple and a bit off.
3.0 Bottle, 0.50l. Clear deep golden color with medium frothy white head and average sparkling appearance. Aroma of cereals, grassy hops, mild citrus and some toffee. Taste starts with light sweet caramel and toffee, follows by mild fruity and bready acidity, mouthfeel is crisp and dry with chalky feeling and moderate bitter finish. Medium body, slick texture and lively carbonation in palate. Nothing special...
2.7 Bottle a golden yellow colored beer with a white head aroma malts water and hops flavor malts citrus spicy and hops
2.5 50cl bottle from M&S. Poured a dark golden, with a white head, which dissipated to nothing. Aroma was very light, some leaves, earth and citrus. Honey in the flavour, with some spruce and biscuity malt. Finish was crisp, but nothingy, just a little residual bitterness.
2.8 To be considered - this is not an IPA as "per se" for the American standard that stands today. It is an English India Export beer, that has been been brewed using the recipes of old English India Export beers - caramel malt, plenty of hops, clear spring water and a special strain of English ale yeast. This is a traditional English IPA, not the American variant and it is a good one at that. Very nice medium roasted caramel malts, moderate bitter hops...it is a well balanced brit-beer.
