Marston's Old Empire (Bottle)

Marston's Old Empire (Bottle)

Bottle: Filtered
Old Empire is brewed using Optic malt, a subtle and paler grain that will allow other flavours to come through on the palate. Goldings and Fuggles hops are added to this brew, which is then late hopped with the American Cascade variety for extra hop strength.

Aroma lupulado. Sabor ligeramente dulce con un final cítrico.
3.1 0,5l bottle from Stonemanor, The British Store near Brussels. F: big, egg-white, good retention. C: gold, almost clear. A: malty, light grassy, bit herbal, citrus, iron. T: medium malty base, light citrus, orange touch, herbal, long lasting yet bit harsh bitterness, medium carbonation, ok for English IPA not for IPA as general.
3.5 Yep yep yep. No problem with this Burton beer. Unremarkable in every way but pour me a pint anyhow! 5.7% abv and it's just a sweet juicy hoppy English ale. Could session this on a rainy day. Charming and humble. Love the Cascade hop on the finish that just adds a bit of flair. It's a James Milner sort of beer. Never will win you the game but somehow always ends up on the pitch. I would fancy it every week easy.
3.1 Bottle. Clear golden with white head. The aroma has notes of citrus (orange), earthy, pine, malt, caramel. The flavor is mild sweet and mild bitter with notes of citrus (orange), lemon zest, malt, earthy, herbs, pine, some alcohol. Medium-bodied.
3.7 Can, medium stable bubbly head, clear very light amber color, biscuity, caramel malt, some fruitiness hint of citrusy hops, medium empathic herbal fruity bitterness, a bit of sweetness. Very good.
3.6 Bitter with a strong almost coffee flavour. Potent beer and a very nice long drink for a cold night
3.3 0.5 l bottle from Vrutak, Zagreb. Clear golden, small off-white head. Aroma is lightly hoppy, citrusy, floral, elderflower and heebs. Flavour adds the pine and resin balanced with malts with a strong hint of tart stone fruit such as plum in the finish. Drinkable, light body, moderate carbonation, lasting finish. Low bitterness.
3.0 Bottle. Clear golden copper color. Aroma of toasted malt, minerals, wet hay. Sweet, malty, fruity, yeast, cookies, moderately bitter. Medium bodied, soft carbonation.
3.1 50cl bottle thanks to @simontomlinson and EuroSwap 2/20. Pours clear pale amber with white head. Aroma is lagery with hint of noble hops. Taste is well balanced and but bit thin. Nice lingering bitterness, but mild in modern IPA standards.
3.3 Historical tick which I am adding as a rate so that I can see the impact it has on my stats. 500 Beers To Try Before You Die. Bottle from Waitrose in West Byfleet. Standard stuff.
1.4 I really don't like its taste as it doesn't taste as an average imperial or normal ipa. High price, never again
2.8 Citrus aroma, quite like a lager. Easy to drink and decent mouthfeel, but beyond a little biscuity malt, not much to speak of.
3.6 500ml bottle brewed in England at 5.7%. Good size and duration head, bronze and clear. Slightly spicy fruit hop aroma with some sweet malt, almost corny. Low carbonation, decent thickness. Fruit puree jammy style hops, Mueller Fruit Corner-esque, apricot primarily with berry beneath. Decently hopped, too. I'm impressed. Malt is sweet but nondescript (I guess from the description that's what they were going for) but still just about fits the style, however, there's an abrupt dry bitter finish that verges on metallic, hints of sucking a penny. Some people will like it like that, I'm sure, but for me it's a little iffy. Not overwhelming by any means, or enough to ruin the beer, mind, which is a credible English style IPA and cheap and widely available with it. This would be rated higher; I really rather like what they've done with the hops here, (despite Cascade hardly hailing from the days of Empire) and the malt is a decent twist on the typically more dark and prominent ones in this style, but that finish is a bit of a niggle for me - it cuts the flavour short! Still, this is firmly recommended. Rock-solid and distinctive supermarket affair from Marston's.
3.0 500ml bottle. Pours a gold amber with frothy white head that stays for a minute. Aroma of malt, hops and a little citrus. Medium body, slightly syrupy, zingy carbonation at first but then quite low after a while. Taste of malt, moderate sweetness, then a bitterness with a slightly dry finish. A little hoppy but more towards the bitter side. The alcohol does come through at 5.7% so I counter the written blurb on the bottle that it’s easy to drink, its certainly not a session IPA/bitter. Its a fine beer just a bit dull.
4.4 Orange copper colour White head Citrus, caramelised oranges Slight bitterness Well bodied Easy to drink
3.6 Marston's Old Empire IPA 5.7%. Golden amber, fruity, grassy aroma, full bodied, caramel malt, citrus, oranges, sweet grapefruit, slightly dry, bittersweet finish. Pleasant IPA from Burton on Trent.
3.5 Pours a golden-copper with white head. Mild floral to earthy aroma and taste. Notes: bottle from the Brit Shop, May ‘20
3.3 500 ml bottle, bb 31/03/2021 Amber, clear, white head, some bubbles racing to the surface. Nose - like a lager. But with a bit more quality to it. Taste - bitter.
4.1 Pours amber with large head. Sweet, fruity, lemon zest, biscuit malts, some elderflower. Finishes with pine and hops, with mild bitterness. Smooth and full-bodied, with moderate fizz. Very surprised with how good this is. Great flavour combination, and smooth mouthfeel completes it.
3.4 500ml bottle from Sainsbury’s, Epsom. Pours clear golden with a thin white head. Aroma of malt and fruit with a hint of pine. Malty biscuit taste. Full bodied bitter finish. Enjoyable, certainly at a discount price.

2.6 17.02.20, butelka z datą do 31.01.21 Aromat wręcz lagerowy, kwiatowy, słodowy, muśnięcie jakiegoś cytrusa. Lekko kwaśne, lekki biszkopt, kwiatowe. Nasycenie średnie. Goryczka zaznaczona.
3.2 Aroma : Light sweet cereal malt, undertone of soft fruits hop & merest hint of vanilla. Taste : Surprising quite bitter & spicy hop, undertone of sweet honeydew melon. Nicely balanced an flavourfall English IPA for a change
2.8 Light golden hue with a light short lasting head. Hollow nose. Flavour wise it has a slight citrus tone with with a hoppy middle and lingering bitter finish. Standard mass produced fare.
2.8 Floral, maltosa. Poco aromática. Bastante suave. Para quitarse el mono de las cervezas inglesas. BB 25 /07/2020
