3.0Rated for nosalgia’s sake. Wheat beer. Sweet, banana. Light bitterness. Color of straw. Decent hefeweizen.
2.8A good session hefeweizen. Delivers what hefeweizens should, and not overly complex for the casual beer drinker. Aromas of banana and wheat with some lemon. Pours a slightly cloudy yellow with a white head. Taste reflects the aroma, with a little citrus peel also.
3.8A real nice wheat beer, has been around for ages. Very morish, one is never enough
3.3Bottle.
Clear golden pour, white head. Wheaty nose, taste is wheat and malts.
Appears more like a pilsner than a wheat - but still a good beer.
Average carbonation.
3.3Draught as part of a tasting paddle at Archive Beer Boutique and Bistro, Brisbane, on July 19, 2013.
As "Redback Original Wheat".
Clear golden color, white head. Hoppy, yeast, banana taste. Clove, banana aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, low bitterness. Sweet, banana, clove scent.
2.6From 355 ml bottle. Pours a clear yellow-amber with a small but perisiting white head. The aromas are light but clove and cinnamon are the strongest, with some lemon and white bread. Taste is sweet initially with some lemon zest bitterness emerging in the mid-palate. Don’t get much in the way of banana or coriander typical of wheat beers, although there is a little bubblegum hiding away in there. Aqueous mouth feel. Soft finish with a bit of a floral aftertaste. A bit pedestrian really.
2.8Appearance: Light golden, hazy, some white head.
Aroma: Wheat, sweetness.
Taste: Nice wheat and flowers.
Info: 345ml bottle, 4/6-2013, 225/300, 237/500
3.0Bottle. Mostly clear straw gold color with a thin white head. Light citrus and banana in the in the aroma with some grass. Flavor is much the same. Fairly dryand not too sweet, and citrus is a feature. Light body.
3.1345ml bottle. Pours a clear yellow golden colour, foamy white head leaving some lacing and aroma of bubblegum, banana, yeast. Taste is wheaty, sweetish, with banana, some tangy lemon and light bitterness. Fizzy mouthfeel, light bodied with high carbonation and a dry finish. Quite OK clear wheat beer.
3.2From a 330ml bottle on 31/3/2013. Pours a slightly hazy light golden with a small head. Has a touch of bubblegum and banana on the nose. There’s more banana and bubblegum in the flavour, with a decent lemony tang, and a mild bitterness at the back. The carbonation is true to style. Nothing remarkable but solid enough.
3.3Pours near clear hazed bright yellow straw with minor white head ANC minimal lace. Light body. Zesty carbonation light bubblegum, cloves and grains finishes light sweet and refreshing. Clean crisp. Light herbal hop character
3.0Clear golden colour with a white head. Smell of malt, bread and some wheat with some sweet yeast. Taste of banana, wheat, some malt with some sweetness. Also some sweet taste of caramel. Quite common "wheat beer taste", nothing too special. Good creamy body with medium carbonation.
2.8Poured a clear pale amber with a one- to two-finger bright white dense foamy head that diminished slowly to a few millimetre thick cap and laced Ok. Carbonation lively, high and medium to coarse. Aroma mildly of cloves. Taste is of very sweet sugar with low cloves and then rather bland with no spices and no banana; low bitterness. Light body. Crisp, clean and smooth with a strong sweetness and moderately strong cloves on a short finish. Not a Hefeweizen, more of a Kristallweizen. This was a good beer but looks like the ’big boys’ have changed the formulae in recent times.
3.2Bottle- Pours a golden color with a decent head that fades to bits of lacing. Aroma is fairly mild with banana, wheat and a bit of spice. Nice taste of wheat with a mild bit of banana and fruit. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Light body, mild crispness, smooth and refreshing. Nice beer, doesn’t have a heavy feel goes well with meals or the Aussie weather.
4.0One of a kind. A good beer for hot weather. If on tap, adding a slice of lemon doesn’t make you appear like a tosses, more someone who knows what he likes. By bottle, you can drop in a slice but it can over power the individual flavour of the beer. Keep a few in fridge for summer.
3.2Well this is a surprise. Forced into Walkabout to watch extra time and not expecting anything decent. But this is. An Australian wheat beer. Who'd have thought?
3.0Bottle- fruity aroma with creamy mouthfeel. A good interpretation of a traditional German style wheat beer.
3.4Bottle. Big wheaty notes, a spicy edge, touch of banana and dry, yeasty finish. Not sure if this is ’true to style’, but I enjoyed it.
3.0(botle) Poured a slightly hazy yellow. Not bottle conditioned, so must be protein haze. Strong phenolic odour. Wheaty taste. Not much character to speak of at all really.
3.0pours a crystal clear golden yellow, on the nose it’s sweet wheat with a hint of banana.taste’s slightly of a bitter lager with a hint of a wheat beer, not bad, but not what i was expecting. then ends with more of a traditional wheat beer flavor. more of a ladies wheat beer than i’d like but far from the worst.
2.8Pours a slightly cloudy golden colour with a white head. Aroma is faint but some sweet wheat and hints of fruit. Taste is also wheaty with notes of fruit such as orange and banana. Not bad.
2.9Bottle at the domestic airport. I have always found redback solid. Nothing outstanding and not completely shit. Does get heavy on the palate after a while but so do most wheat beers for me
3.0Bottle. Pours a crystal clear olden yellow with minimal head. Smells of wheat, damp yeast and some secondary sugar as in added after the fact. Taste is not bad given this is the only wheat I’ve had in the 25+ Aussie brews. Taste is certainly bumblegumy wheat with medium high carbonation. I probably rank this high due to the lack of wheats in Australia. Cheers.
3.5345ml bottle. Very bright and clear and bursting with sweet ripe banaba aroma. Smallish head for the style. Flavour is good with a big hit of sweetness. Sits well in the mouth and is good without being great.
3.0Clear golden copper coloured body with a thin, soapy white head. Aroma of wheat, cardboard, caster sugar, soap and very mild yeast - pretty mild. Light-bodied; Sharp wheat and yeast flavour at first with a good kick of light spices and yeast with a little sweetness at the end. Aftertaste is mild, yet shows some good clove and coriander seed freshness, with a touch of corn at the very end. Overall, a decent beer, not so horrible, but not showing much flavour at all. Definitely good to try, especially after all the time and the 15,000 miles to bring it back! I sampled this 345 mL bottle purchased from a bottle shop in Circular Quay, Sydney, NSW, Australia on 24-July-2008, sampled at home in Washington nearly three years later on 05-February-2011.
2.7Pours amber with a tiny fading head.
Nose shows typical doughy wheat, some light phenols along with a hint of lemon.
Similar flavours but with the addition of a lot of sweet, characterless and unchallenged malt.
Very high carbonation and watery body.
2.6Reasonably well made hefe - but POR hops? Really gives this a rough around the edges feel that is at odds with yeast. Not offensive, but not particularly special considering the flood of germans on the market.
2.9not very carbonated. strong wheat background with a slighty sweet finish that can hang around a bit too long.
3.0Clear golden colour with minimal carbonation. Starts with a fluffy white head but that vanishes almost immediately. Strong aroma of wheat. Thick, almost sweet flavour. With a pleasant aftertaste.
2.7Pale gold, white head. Smells of wheat, flowers and weeds. Taste is much the same with some quite subtle malt sweetness and touches of citrus and metal. Decent thirst-quencher. I remember when this was a revelation, but there you go.
