Maui Coconut Hiwa Porter

Maui Coconut Hiwa Porter

Our Coconut Porter is a classic robust porter spiced with all natural toasted coconut. It is black in color and crowned with a creamy, dark tan head. It begins with a malty-toasted-coconut aroma followed by a rich, silky mouthfeel with tastes of dark malt, chocolate, and hints of coffee. It then finishes with flavors of toasted coconut and hoppy spice to balance the finish.

4.0 Much better than I thought! Sweet flavor. Would definitely have again
2.5 Drinkable, not great. Would not turn one down free, would not go out of my way to buy it.
3.5 Svart med lys brunt skum. Mineralsk lukt, jord, havre og mørk sjokolade. Middels fylde. Fløte, kakao og hint av kokos. Lett bitterhet. Kort.
3.9 355ml can, drank late on 11th Dec 2019 at my daughters house in California. Looked good, dark and interesting, with a tanned topping. Coconut aroma and taste, with some singed coffee flavours also. Smooth and rich body, very pleasant.
3.7 On tap at the Waikiki location. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate malt, toasted coconut, mild coffee notes. Flavor of roasted malt, toasted coconut, lactose, chocolate malt. Nice coconut porter. 7/4/8/4/14 (3.7/5)
3.7 Pours black with a light brown, thin, somewhat lasting head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of burnt malt and bitter chocolate. Medium body, medium bitter, no perceptible flavor of coconut, flavor follows nose, average carbo, richness could make it a stout and a bitter finish. Ok.
3.7 Toast. Malt. Cocoa. Black with a thick foamy light tan head. Great retention. Big chunks of foam left on the glass. Lightish bodied. Toast. Smooth. A bit of char. Very solid.
3.9 Dark brown color with a quickly dissipating beige head. The malty aroma has notes of roasted malts, chocolate, coconut and coffee. The mouth feel is creamy with a lingering bitter chocolate finish. Very nice.
3.7 PKD 040119. From a can poured an opaque black with a dark brown edge tint (gives a mahogany spot under strong light) with a few mm of tan dense foam that diminished quickly to a blotchy cap that laced very well. Carbonation moderate, lively and very fine to fine. Aroma is moderately strong coffee, slightly roasted, slight sweet dried dark fruits and hints of dark chocolate and dark treacle. Taste is initially quite roasted with a slight burnt flavour followed by sweet dark dried fruits and slight coffee; quite sweet; slight coffee bitterness; can't say I get much coconut. Medium to full body. Very smooth and with a slightly creamy mouthfeel and a moderately long finish.
3.0 Coconut is light touch. Slightly burnt taste on the finish. Slightly heavy on the hops. Richness on beginning with slightly sour finish, but not too bad. Got to be in the mood for a heavier beer to want this.
4.0 Dark color, middle foam size. Aroma is with cold coffee notes. Very smooth and pleasure taste. Excellent porter.
3.6 From can (pkgd 1Apr) in dimpled mug. Pours dark brown w/dense tan head, aroma of molasses, light coconut. Tasty and full-bodied, a bit spicy in the finish.
4.2 This is good. Super dark brown. Don't actually get much on the nose, a hint of the coconut maybe but flavours are great. Espresso, toasted malt, a hint of coconut sweetness. There's a nice hit of bitterness which cuts through it creating a freshness to it. Full mouthfeel.
3.5 355ml can from Bucket Boys 6% ABV canned 04.01.19 Deep brown body, holds a fair sized Rocky beige head. Nice aroma to it; plenty of toasted coconut, Coco, roast walnuts, burnt sugars. Medium body, has a sort of slick oily texture to it, moderate carbonation, slight burnt sort of astringency about it. Malt driven palate; nutty, dark toffee, rummy dark sugars almost licorice like, dry cocoa, coconut comes through later on, moderate bitterness, finishes a slightly bit short. Flavours work well, coconut is not OTT, complimentary and tasty.
4.1 Pretty decent coconut porter. Heavy body. Nice coconut & hint of mocha
3.2 24-Nov-08 (12-oz can: Purchased 15-Oct-08 for $2.99 at South Bay Drugs and Liquor in Imperial Beach, CA) Dark brown in the glass, but not opaque, the beer shows some hazy translucence near the edges. The tan head rises to a quarter-inch on the pour before settling back to a thin ring and partial dusting. Sweet coconut, toast, wood and mild dark-roasting present an aromatic and diverse nose. Moderately dark-roasted malts hit the palate first and continue their strong presence into the long finish. Sweet and very well-toasted coconut emerge in the finish, but most of the coconut "flavor" is due to retronasal activity. Pecans, molasses and forest floor add much needed background complexity, but are unable to make much of a dent against the domination of the sweet, toasty coconut. Medium-full bodied on the palate with moderate carbonation, and the lingering sweetness becomes somewhat cloying. Lacing disappears as it slides down the glass. This beer quickly attained cult status after it first appears at the Stone 11th Anniversary festival, but it's just not a beer that appeals to me. While the toasted coconut is an interesting diversion at first, eventually, the retronasal barrage of coconut in the finish as well as the general sweetness start to wear out their welcome, though this is clearly dependent on personal taste.
3.6 Pint at Winking Lizard Macedonia Ohio. Draft. Smell roasted malt. Dark brown in color. Medium beige head. Tasted the roasted malt and coconut. Smooth with malted after taste. Medium bodied. Could drink this all day. Nice porter. Cheers!
3.7 Coconut chocolate aroma in a jet black pour. Hop forward balance with chocolate, coffee, and coconut in the body and a smooth crisp clean finish. Very drinkable.
3.1 I had this at Global Brew. Pours black with a tan head. Taste coconut, coffee, chocolate. I am not a fan. I wouldn’t drink this again.
3.7 Canned 09.05.18. Pours black with a half finger of tan head. Aroma is a nice, round roast with some dark chocolate and faint coconut. Taste is balanced with hints of toasted nuts, roast, dark chocolate, slight caramel, and a drawn out, roasty ending. Don't get a lot of coconut for me. Medium body and carbonation. Clean in the mouth with. Overall a nice, toasty porter.
3.5 Pours black with medium head. Aroma is roasty, with a lot of coffee. Taste is roasty and focused on dark chocolate. Don't really taste the coconut.
3.3 Black with tan head. Aroma roasty malt and sugar. Medium body. Sweet malts, vanilla, coconut I guess, coffee. Not bad.
3.5 Pours black with a full, tan head. Aroma is coffee, coconut and roast. Taste is coconut and light chocolate, moving to coffee and roast. Finish is roast. A good porter.
3.7 Can. Canned June 2018; Bought Aug 2018; Drank Aug 2018 - Opaque black in colour. Medium creamy tan head. Roasty and coconut aroma. Very malty; roasty malts, dark chocolate, coconut, caramel, coffee. Mildly spicy; peppery. Fruity; dark fruits. Sweet roast chocolate and coconut malty spicy fruity throughout. Rich and smooth. Quite dry. Good depth of flavour. Decent Porter. Liked it. (2018-08)
3.9 Taster at the Growler Garage. Pours black, with a big, frothy, tan head. The aroma is intense coconut milk, dark chocolate, walnuts, maple syrup, and chicory. Sweet and syrupy, with a light roast bitterness. Medium to heavy body, with a creamy, silky mouthfeel. Simply excellent!
3.4 From backlog. 0,3 litre Can at Moana Surfrider Waikiki. Brown with beige head. Roasted malts, hops, coconut.
3.5 Can from GBBF 2018 and drunk at home. Dark clear brown colour lasting tan head. Yes a decent coconut chocolate beer. Some lactose but not too much. Easy drinking. Far too easy drinking. Quite decent. Both dry and sweet. A bit like a bounty bar. OK.
3.4 6%ABV. Porter. Poured out black. 40ºSRM. Nose has aromas of raisins, with only a hint of grated coconut. There are aromas of wet coals, campfire steam, coffee, dark chocolate, and vanilla pound cake. Mouthfeel is watery and light, and dry in the end. Palate has dark wheat toast. Hops are woody, with a light sappy bitter, and hint of mint. The flavor traits lean towards noble hops. Finish is brief, dry and with a clean woody bitter. Overall, the body and flavor are on the borderline with a stout. There is not as much fruity character as there might be in a more obvious porter.
4.0 Funny thing, wasn’t blown away at first taste but as I sipped I noticed the coconut, coffee and chocolate malty goodness. It grew on me, give it a try.
