Maui Sobrehumano Palena’ole

Maui Sobrehumano Palena’ole

This red ale, brewed with Liliko’l and Michigan cherries is ruby red in color, tart and refershing in flavor. Working with Ron is something I’ve wanted to do since I had my first Jolly Pumpkin Beer. Years later its a reality. Being involved on this project was an honor and a privilege. Mahalo to my MBC crew and to you, fans of craft beer. Aloha, John Walsh.

Yes, Michigan and Hawai’i are connected. It should be obvious to you know, as you hold this beer, and read this label. John and I designed this beer with two noble fruits from two noble states. Michigan & Hawaii. Cherries & Lilko’i. Starting to see the connection? I feel it. So does John. 4391 miles may separate our breweries, but not our thirst for the exquisite. Hipa! - Ron Jeffries

3.3 Can. Pours a hazy amber with a small white head. Fruity aroma. Flavor of sweet malts, tart cherries, passion fruit, a bit of caramel and had a touch of hops with a crisp dry finish.
3.3 Can from The Bottle Shop Canterbury. Hazy amber lasting white head. Fruity plum aroma. Strange flavour. Some sharpness on the finish.
3.2 unclear amber orange medium head fruit citrus orange peel tangerine cherry tamarind good dryness littke dusty low hoppy note nutty woody tart
2.6 Thin, white frothy head with a very cloudy brownish red body. Nose of lychee and sour cherry. Flavours of tobacco, cherry and cantiloupe. Not terribly agreeable. (Can) Purchased at Metro Liquors University Heights.
3.6 Cloudy apple juice like pour. Aroma is tart fruit, melon, apple, graham cracker. Flavour has underlying biscuity malts with decent tartness. Not picking up much cherry, but the passion fruit comes through along with tart apple skin like flavours. Enjoyable.
3.4 Can. Sombrero Banana beer to Canadians (no Hawaiian in my blood). Pours hazy amber with light rubeh tones, off-white head. Nose is nondescript berry, phenol, bread. Flavour is berry, malt, tartness blends well with bitterness. Quite fresh, not syrupy, a good fruit beer, I’m pleased to say.
3.1 Slightly murky dark red-orange color, voluminous off-white head that dissipates quickly. Light musky and tart fruit aromatics. Acetic fruit flavors up front, with hints of cherry skin and a lingering but muted passionfruit. Ruddy finish with some grassy vegetal components and unripe fruit. Mouthfeel is on the light side, somewhat drying.
2.3 can from ølbutikken dkk 28. hazy brown, no head, but a fizz in the beginning. fruity and boozy aroma, almost as if the alc. pct. is a little too high compared to the fruity aroma. Flavor is alclohol and some berries, some licorice like spices, not really very well tasting, kinda fruity bitter. Not my kind of beer at all.
3.4 Drank from the can Fruity , hoppy smell Taste is fruit , bit hops , very light and thin . Wattery , Bit sugar Passionfruit in the back . A bit Very thin and weak .

2.7 From a can into a pint glass. Huge foamy head. Nearly a gusher. Murky brown orange papery stale malt aroma. Fruity and slightly tart. Cherries I guess and I suppose passion fruit. Muddy and bizzare.
3.0 Poured from can to glass. Hazy amber with fizzy white head. Aroma is sugar, yeasty, cherry, orange, peppercorn. Body is nice with medium light body and good carbonation. Taste is initially sweet with an astringent bitterness following. Overall, this is nice with a bitter cherry essence.
3.4 6 pack. Nice beer. Tartness of the cherries and passion fruit comes through clearly, however not much else follows. Good for what it is, but lacking in complexity.
3.4 17/XI/13 - 12Fl. Oz. can from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - date: 6/8/13 (maybe canned on VI/8/13? Would surprise me as the can was in the shop on VI/17/13, but it’s not impossible) (2013-1085) Very cloudy dark beige to muddy brown beer, creamy small off-white head, unstable, dissipates immediately. Aroma: lots of caramel malts, bit chocolatey, vanilla, sweet impression, bit piny, some citrus, hint of exotic fruits. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sourish start, lemony, bit funky, bitter hops, spices, some cinnamon, bit of caramel. Aftertaste: piny hops, bit resinous, caramel and malts, some citrus, bitter ending, agrum fruits, some pineapple.

3.5 10/24/2012. From can. Red-brown with a tan head. Fruity aromas with cherries showing through. Light malt and hops, but a refreshing brew. A little tart, but very good. Definitely unique.
3.2 Can at Hawthorne with Al, pours hazy red brown with small head and light lacing. Notes are very Belgian dubbel forward with cherries, plum, and sweet malt taking over the scent and flavor. Some passionfrui is present in aftertaste but not enough. Light to medium body. Just ok

2.8 CAN at Delirium Brussels, shared with Mathieu87. APPEARANCE: clouded red beer, little to no white foam. NOSE: red fruits, coulis, little bitter. TASTE: red fruits, coulis, sweet, little sour, little earthy. Expected this to be worse, but was OK
3.1 Can. Pours murky brown-ish with no head. Aroma is zesty, yeast, some cherries and floral. Taste is medium bitter and light sweet. A bit weird but drinkable. Medium body with average carbonation.
2.9 Poured clear reddish brown with frothy tan head. Aroma of sweet, zesty hops. Medium body, flavour of sweet malt. Not much fruit, fairly standard bitter, some nuts.
3.2 From a can poured an amber color with a fair amount of head. Sweet fruity flavor with a quick finish.
2.7 This is an odd beer. Amber coloured and hazy. Has a diminishing, white head. Fruity notes in the aroma, odd yeast, sweet and acid flavor. LIght astringent. Lively carbonation.
2.4 Draught at Sheffield Tap. Hazy light brown coloured beer with small white head and medium carbonation. Fruited aroma. Medium palate. Finish is fruited sweet sour.
3.1 Aroma: slightly sour, fruity, dark malts. Appearance: hazy ruby color, very poor head. Taste: sour, dark malts, slightly fruit notes, very low bitterness. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation, astringent and earthy finish. Overall: Somehow interesting and untypical beer, but without fireworks.
3.2 Murky brown colour, white head. Fruity aroma, light sweet, apricot, gooseberry, pineapple. Light sweet flavour, light sour touch, light cherry, bit astringent. Bit thin. Fruity finish, gooseberry, berries, grape peels. Feels like it could’ve benefited from a bit more body. (From 35cL can shared @ DutchDrebus’ place)
