3.2 Pours black. Smells like fresh baked bread with a hint of molasses. Somewhat sweet. Medium body. Mild carbonation. Decent brew.
3.6 On tap at Kennedy School Dark brown with a small beige head, good lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Taste of roasted malts, chocolate and ashy Nice
3.0 Taster at Roseburg Station Pub. Appearance: finger tan head, brown color, cloudy. Aroma: molasses, roast, light chocolate. Palate: soft carbonation, oily texture, soft carbonation. Taste: sweet chocolate with light roast notes into light pine finish, very earthy peat undertones throughout. Overall, a bit too earthy and molasses-ey for me.
3.6 Nice appropriately colored beer. Great taste without being too heavy. Cheers!
3.7 Draft - Dark malts and light roast. Deep mahogany with a decent beige head. Dark roast. Light coffee and some spice. I really quite like this, nice complexity and easy drinking. Well done.
3.6 Finally, a decent beer is suppose. Pours dark, passes some light with ruby edges. Nose has coffee. Taste is full of black barley (see Guinness) light licorice, balance. Mouth lingers.
3.4 "one of their best, this beer has a highlt roasted chocolate aroma, medium bodied and slightly dry, with nice balance between ample hops and roasted malt, chocolate, and a hint of dark fruit, & nuts. Not quite a standout, but close." 2015 pretty weak
3.6 Opaque black with a one-finger tan head and moderate lace. Roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate, with bits of toffee and nuts. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel and a gently bitter finish.
3.4 Draught in a flight at the Mill Creek brewpub. Pours a very dark brown color. Nose is roasty with some coffee elements. Taste is similar, being lightly bitter and toasty. Ends up being nearly indistinguishable from their Porter, which was disappointing.
3.2 Body is lacking, decent overall aroma and flavor but kind of weak in body and substance.
3.1 Draught at McMenamins Mill Creek, WA, 6.45% ABV Black color with beige compact head. Soft Stout, with moderate residual sweetness, a bit of lactose, some roasted malt, ordinary bitterness. Easy.
3.3 Tap at White Eagle Saloon, Portland. Colour is black with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Coffee, dark chocolate, sweetness, and roasted malts.
2.9 Smooth and black. Silky texture like nitro. Med palate. Sweet toasted malt flavor in the middle and finish. Easy drinking at 6.45%. Slight coffee, but just a little to sweet for my palate.
3.6 First stout beer I have enjoyed in about a year. It was delicious with a beautiful color
3.5 Poured on draft at six arms brewery in Seattle. Coffee and chocolate. Like a Hershey kiss. Likening this one
3.6 Really palatable stout. Not too dark and totally refreshing. Order as a "Rubinator" mixed with their Ruby fruit beer for full PDX experience.
4.2 A very good, strong tasting Stout. McMenamins does a very fine job with every style they brew.
3.4 Dark brown, tan head. Roasty, clean, full-bodied, touch of caramel with a graininess that dries out the finish.
3.1 One finger of tan head with a dark brown body. The smell is a strong roasted malt. Taste is roasted malt and burnt coffee. A bit bold and one sided. Fizzy texture but only moderate carbonation with medium body. Overall it’s nice, but bold flavor profile.
3.4 Really unoffensive, but so normal. So basic. Like a thick albiet fresh coffee. A bit tart. I prefer it less so. Regardless, the beer to recommend.
3.6 Pint at the Kennedy School Boiler Room. It’s pitch black and doesn’t let any light through the glass. It has the traditional stout flavors of nuts and coffee. There was practically no discernible aroma, but that may have been the result of the tap pour. Overall this was a satisfying beer and I’d like to try more from McMenamin’s.
3.2 Black pour, moderate head. Aroma is mildly roasted. Flavor is also mildly roasty, but with hints of fruit. A decent stout.
3.1 Faint hint of coffee aroma. A more prominent coffee flavour. Some carbonation.
3.4 Draught at Market St. Somewhat hoppy nose—cascade citrus, chocolate, berry. Nice. Shiny black with lace. Flavor of citrus hops, coffee, chocolate. A bit of band-aid that faded through the taster. Decent, especially after time.
3.3 Looks like a stout. Smells like a stout. Tastes like a stout. Not bad at all but there are much more interesting options out there than this generic offering.
4.2 clean and rich not too heavy but really good stuff... coffee and choco stout is beautiful...toasty and malty, easy drinking for a dark deep stout, blakc and yummy...great stuff I could drink it all day
3.7 As dark as you can get. Smells burnt. Sweet. Tan head. Bold. Well balanced. Pretty average stout, no flaws but not great.
3.7 Pours black with a tan head. Low coffee and roast aroma. Full mouthfeel with small but adequate carbonation. Flavor is roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. Not overwhelming but smooth. Finishes clean and well balanced.
3.3 From tap at McMenamins in Sherwood. Dark brown in color, nice body and the finish is like malty figs.
3.3 On tap at the crystal ballroom. Pours a pure black color with a medium brown head. A sweet roast and coffee nose. Light earthy flavor, caramel a bit earthy maybe some diacetal. Smooth.
