McSorleys Ale

McSorleys Ale

Brewed for McSorley’s Ale House, the oldest continuously operating pub in New York City. We brew McSorley’s Ale with carefully malted barley and European style hops to create a light-bodied, aromatic, Irish-style specialty ale. Craft-brewed with the same care and attention to detail that has made McSorley’s a regional favorite since John McSorley’s 1854 arrival in the United States.

2.3 Rated from memory, but I have many an enjoyable bottle. Aroma and taste were a hoppy step up from Bud. Any "ale" was exotic compared to mere "beer"!
2.2 Tasting - Gulf Brew 2010 - amber color white head. couldn’t get much of a nose with this one. tasted kind of watery, but from what I got it was earthy, with light body - not much hops in the after. Of course it was a tasting. I’m not sure I’d buy it.
2.5 On tap at Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY. This bar suppossedly invented buffalo wings and let me say they were delicious but why not have a better tap list? Anyways this was slightly sweet amber with a little metallic taste and was watery.
2.6 Waiter brought this beer to me and it looked very heavy and filling. much lighter than expected but almost metallic to taste.
2.4 Very malty, tiny kick of hops at the end. Medium bodied, goes down clean and smooth. Not horrible, just not outstanding.
2.4 On tap at Bacchus. Pours a clear light brown with a medium white head. Slight hop aroma and a hint of toast. Flavors of burnt grains and toast. Finishes a bit more grain, and an off putting metallic note reminiscent of a lot of macro lagers. Tough to finish. If I’d had a full pint instead of a half I don’t think I could have put the rest of it away.
2.6 The aroma is sweet with toasted malt and hops. The appearance is light amber with a small head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is average for the style. Overall a drinkable beer but not a very enjoyable beer.
2.5 Kind of a muddy, too sweet version of a typical Irish Ale. Not very clean palate and syrupy on the tongue.
2.1 Not happy with this one. Maybe it is the atmosphere, but this tastes much better at the pub. Far too sweet and watery. I liked the bottle.
3.2 (bottle - 12 oz) Amber color with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet and malty with some hints of smoke and caramel. Flavor is sweet and smokey at the beginning with some strong malt at the beginning with a light touch of hops. Middle is smooth and malty with some hints of caramel and apple skins. Finishes clean and lightly bitter.
3.3 I don’t really know why, I really dug this beer. Goes down smooth, great session beer.
2.6 Tap at a JFK pub. Pours a reddish amber with a thin white head. Not much aroma. Slightly sweet malt body with a touch of hop bitterness. Not an exciting beer.
2.8 Easy drinking malt driven beer. Aroma is sweet malts, appearence is reddish-brown. Flavour is relatively straightforward sweet malts followed by a slight bitterness, there are some notes of Sarsparilla. Makes a good session beer.
2.4 Draft in THE CITY. Pours a copper body with a light head. Served when you ask for dark and dont specify that you want two darks. Sweet lager notes, caramel, simple and thin with a light earthy perfume hop character.
2.7 Pours a translucent light copper with a one finger frothy ligth tan head. The nose is earthy malt, lightly peaty, some sweetness, bready. The flavor is a little peaty, malty, earthy, leafy hop feel, lightly sweet, not too hot, decent for less than 4%.
2.5 I keep this beer in my beer fridge with all of my imports for when the guys are over watching football - some of the guys who typically drink the fizzy yellow macro stuff drink this like water - which is what it tastes like to me.
2.5 12 oz bottle from one of my friends who broght a 6er of this to the Monday Night Vikings spanking, er squeking by the Saints. Pours a deep reddish amber with a smaller bubbly super fast disipating white head. Aroma of corn syrup, lots of sweetness, cooked vegtables and slight metallic notes. Watery bodied with lots of bubbly carbonation that seems to forced. Flavor was very watered down and weak with some caramel malts and bready grains. Drinkable...eh yes, enjoyable not so much.
3.0 12 oz bottle-pours a foamy off white head and amber color. Aroma is sweet grain/medium malt. Slight sharpness. Taste is sweet caramel/woody/grain/medium malt, slight sharpness. Medium body. OK carbonation. Thanks to jwc215 for picking this out.
2.7 On tap at :Lucy’s. Decent cheap tap beer. Nothing really here to like or dislike. Drinkable and cheap that’s about it
2.7 From a bottle poured a straw color with a small amount of head. A mild slightly malty ale with no real finish.
3.0 On tap at McSorley’s Ale House. Im assuming that this is the one referred to as the "light", got two mugs that were about 2/3 amber colored beer 1/3 cream colored head. Sweet grainy aroma with a taste that follows. Sweet caramel malt taste with a little bitterness, but these were brewed for pounding by the dozen, not for rating.
2.1 On tap at JFK. Amberish color, no head by the time it was served to me. Aroma is just grainy and malty. Flavor is boring and pretty lousy. Just give me a bass please. Nothing special here.
2.6 Pours straw gold into the glass with a nice white head. Aroma is sweet and corny. Taste is much the asme with plenty of sweet and not enough bitterness to counter.
2.9 nothing real special here. pours an amber color with a smaller head. aroma is malty and not much different that your standard irish ale. OVer all a solid beer.
2.5 Draft @ Anchor Bar Buffalo, NY. This is a pretty standard Amber Ale. Pretty malty, no real hop presence. Not bad, but nothing special or unique either. I give it an overall 12 rating, slightly boosted, because it excelled at washing down the "Original" Buffalo Wings . While not a beer that I would care for under any other circumstances, the setting lends it to being a special brew.
2.7 Poured a suprisingly medium dark coppery amber, forming a white foamy head that quickly dissipated. Aroma of malts, perhaps burnt wood. Flavour was woody malts, with a slight herbal hoppish kanke. Rather mediocre beer. I wonder if Marty is related to this brewery?
3.0 I believe that this is now contract brewed at City in La Crosse, WI. I had a bottle at The Casino in La Crosse. The body was amber with an off white head. The aroma was caramel and bubblegum with some grassy hints. The taste was bubblegum with some bread crust and a little bit of walnuts. Overall, this is a sweet tasting beer.
2.3 The beer smelled of St. Patty’s day late night at an Irish bar, booze, vomit and sweat. After that it wasn’t too bad it tasted like it had a little bit of whiskey or oak barreling but i know it didn’t.
2.8 Bottle. Pours clear amber with an off white head. Aroma is caramel malt and butterscotch. Medium body. Flavor is caramel malt with a light fruity note. Pretty average and unimpressive.
2.1 Light translucent orange body, with slight effervescence... swiftly dissipating white head.... sharp light beer malts, with hints of bread... active, carbonated mouthfeel... medium-bodied presence...becomes gassy quickly...low expectations and the rare "on-sale" price at Bottle King going in, McSorley’s another American ale masquerader--eases up in the presence by mid-glass, and probably the fifth beer you wnat to reach for in a six-pack night...
