McSorleys Irish Pale Ale

McSorleys Irish Pale Ale

At McSorley’s ale is well. McSorley’s Irish Pale Ale is from the old house at home. Established in 1854 in NYC and brewed by McSorley’s Brewery in Wilks-Barre, PA. Brewed in the tradition of the historic walls of McSorley’s Old Ale House. It took 116 years, the pressure of public opinion and ultimately the authority of a court order for McSorley’s to surrender. By the mid 1970s, McSorley’s allowed woman inside the bar at 15 E. 7th St for the very first time. Ah, but the owners did not completely forgo tradition, women would wait until 1986 to get their own restroom.

3.0 Caramel malt nose. Sweet malty flavor with little hops, dry alcohol finish. Does have a raw Irish character, but a bit too bland.
2.8 Not much. Tastes malty and watery. Macro tasting with a bit more flavor maybe nutty and grassy in there with the metallic sweet backbone.
3.1 A good clean beer in between all the abortions I’ve been drinking June on jimmy dean
2.8 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured clear, copper in color with a nice off white head. Lots of lacing. Malty, caramel nose with some hints of hops... Taste is not great but it is a solid and drinkable malty (a bit too sweet) beer some hops are present but not that noticeable. OK Beer.
2.9 A pale ale with a lot of bite. Not very hoppy and kind of fruity. Not very smooth and is a beer I would not get again. Pours dark orange
2.8 Bottle from Yamaya. Creamy, rounded whiskeyish malt nose. Copper color, fine tan head. Crisp, puckering pickled prunes initial / mid has a small carb burn and some harsh alc hits / finish is mild, with a touch of bitterness. Thin-medium body. Okay. Aroma promises a lot more than the flavors provide. Still, drinkable.
1.4 Pours copper color, very clear. Almost no head. What little head there is, is white. Aroma is nonexistent. What little scent I’m picking up is sweet wheat. Flavor is bland. Nearly no flavor at all. This beer is boring. Not sure why this beer is why wife’s favorite. It’s not that good. Palate, no taste at all. Very low carbonation. No lace.
1.9 Similar to the black lager with an almost savory flavor and a hint of grapefruit,
1.1 bottle. Nasty ass beer. Pale ale with minimal hops and rotting garbage flavor. Wtf?
1.7 An interesting bit of nostalgia, that starts off okay (although not much more than some malt and generic hops) but then descends into an empty palate, and spirals out of control with a horrible aftertaste that reminded me of the formaldehyde smell from the frogs we dissected in Mr. DiTurno’s 7th grade biology class back in ’84. Yuck.
2.9 Bottle(von Max sein Vatter): Golden to orangey coloured, hazy, small but stable creamy off-white head, mild to moderate herbal to medical and slightly fruity nose, light bodied; dryish mild bitter-sweet flavour; the medical impressions return, a certain fruitiness included, in the shorter dry finish. Average, but not unpleasant ale…
2.2 Bottle. Deep copper caramel colored brew with a long lasting khaki head. An almond and caramel nose. There is also some nice dough. This tastes like grapefruit and raw dough. This also has a woody soapy finish. Meh.
2.8 Brownish, caramel.. super carbonation on the appearance with bubbly head. Aroma of some hops, copper and a bit of paper. Reminds me of a nut brown ale. Light, pleasant, a bit of hops and caramel.. not much else. Not bad.
2.4 On tap at McSorley’s (New York, New York) Aroma: Some resin maybe, but not much character beyond a base malt aroma. Appearance: Light gold, with a thin white head. Taste: Very light bitterness, otherwise there’s not much else going on. Palate: Light bodied, with a soft carbonation. The lesser of the two offerings at McSorley’s. It’s pretty boring overall.
2.4 1/11/13. 12oz bottle. Mostly clear amber pour with a nice khaki head that fades to a film. Caramel, hay, metal, and stomach acid fill the aroma and flavor. Ugh.
2.7 pours brownish amber, white head.... creamy hoppy aroma, taste is metallic hoppy with some fruit on the backend, ok

2.3 This is a nice cornucopia of off-flavors. Aluminum, butter, sourness, what doesn’t it have? Some pluses are the palate, which is smooth, and its appearance (what you’d expect).
2.7 Bought a sixer at 7-11 after the storm. Kind of a hoppy amber ale. Not much to say. Drinkable.
2.6 From a amber colored glass bottle with a pry off cap. Pours a bright orange color with a big fluffy white head that loosens up and shrinks while the glass chills out and I type this. I can see a spotty lacing forming. The aroma is pretty faint, plenty of toasty malt and that’s about it, maybe some weird tomato character but that’s pretty faint. The flavor is odd, bright and earthy at the same time, but not especially remarkable in either character. Some tartness, some caramel, some sweetness. Stylistically this ticks all the boxes, but generally there is no great feature with which this beer can hang it’s hat, it’s not bold (but it doesn’t have to be), it’s not especially crisp or clean (but it does not have to be), it’s not got a great depth of malt character (not that it has to), the hops are not prominent nor do they provide some wonderful balance here (which does not have to be the case). It’s a straightforward, and unremarkable yet true to style Irish ale.
2.7 pours a clear pale reddish-amber with a medium white head. smell is faint, some hops, and a little malt. taste is of roasted malt, caramel, and few hops. ends just a little bitter. not much to this one.
3.1 Light copper amber, short foamy head, strong carbonation. English malt/yeast aroma.Nutty butter.carmel malts.NOt much of hop detection, maybe slight if so.Some fruit-could be yeast esters. Full mouth feel, but medium body.Carmel malts some carmelized taste or butter.Dusty nutty. With a mild tart citrus like crisp finish.Ok-decent.
3.5 Aroma is fruit and relatively non-sweet malts. The flavor is fruit, malts and a mix of nuttiness and tartness into the finish.
1.9 Bottled at GJBF 2012 Osaka. Pale amber color. Aroma of metal, cherry, a little bit of caramel. Light, industrial, metallic flavor with almost nothing going on. Thin and not tasty.
2.6 Pours deep amber into a shaker. Off-white micro head with excellent retention. Sweet and sour caramel aromas. Soft with sour malt front to back. Lasting vegetal finish.
3.2 Bottle at M’Coul’s. Pours copper amber with a nice beige head leaving some lacing. Aroma is sweet, toasted malty, some caramel and fruity. Flavor malty, a bit roasted, caramel, medium bitter hoppy, a bit grassy and fruity with the bitterness coming more out towards the end. Finishes bitter and sweet.
3.1 Bottle. Slightly hazy orange pour with a white ring head. Nose is floral hops. Moderate palate, and the taste is kind of a muted floral hop with some grassy elements. Pretty good, and I bet I could session the crap out of this.
5.0 imo, i havent had a better, commercially available beer. I found it to be slightly better on tap than out of a bottle, but I’m a fan of tap beer so maybe it’s just me.
2.2 Very slight haze in a medium amber brew with a decent head covering and good lace. The taste isn’t the usual malt; more like corn (or who knows what?). Nothing changes through the finish. What bittering there is comes from light carbonation. The bottle label holds a little promise, but it isn’t fulfilled.
2.4 Originally reviewed: 3/18/09. Pours a crystal clear goldish orange. Decent foamy white head on top. Retention was great leaving some sticky lacing along the glass edge as well. Smell was of buttery biscuits, and this weird off-meaty scent. Malts smelled a bit odd on this one. Mouthfeel was a little on the slick side. Carbonation level was low. Detected some biscuity flavors and hints of sweetness. They were there, but they faded quickly. Easy enough drinker, but I wouldn’t really want to drink more than 1 or 2.
