Meantime Chocolate

Meantime Chocolate

Cold fermented and lagered. Only available in 330ml bottles.

"Porter style Ale. Chocolate and beer! Are we Mad? We’d rather say passionate. We marry the soothing flavour of this complex malt barley grist with a hint of dark chocolate. This is a beer for your more self-indulgent moments. Great for lazy afternoons or long evenings, it is best served chilled with your feet up, watching the sun go down. Like we say – chilled."

"A silky-smooth suppertime beer, created using dark malts and chocolate. Pronounced vanilla notes fuse the chocolate and malts together to give a rich, warming, flavour that also works well as a complement to fruity desserts, summer puddings and autumn berries."

3.3 330ml from bottle bought at Waitrose. Slightly watery, notes of cheap chocolate.
3.7 Aroma is chocolate/dark chocolate and dark malts. The flavor is chocolate/dark chocolate, slightly burnt, dark malts and an acidic/somewhat sweet finish.
4.3 Black pour under a thin foamy light beige head. Rich roasty dark malt aroma with cocoa and a hint of earthy vanilla. Smooth dark and semisweet flavor that marries vanilla bean and dark chocolate wonderfully. Roasty dark malt finish. Simplistic but tasty.
3.0 Dark brown liquid, average head. Aroma of iron, stout. Light body, little bit carbonation. Taste of chocolate, bitter.
3.3 Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker. Shared with Anke. Pours cloudy black/brown with a lasting, small, off-white head. The aroma contains milk & dark chocolate, cocoa powder, roasted malt, some (pea)nuts. It tastes medium malty/chocolatey sweet and light to medium hoppy bitter; bit toasty, hoppy, shortish finish. Medium body, thin/slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Chocolate galore, if that's what you're looking for.
3.8 Deep, rich chocolate flavours with a bitterness that compliments the sweetness and brings about a very satisfying finish. Smooth, not too thick, to be drunk while it's still quite cold as the sweetness balance can tip the balance in the wrong direction if left too long.
3.5 Bottle in a bar in Darwen. Pours darkest brown. Nose is chocolate, soy sauce, nuts. Palate is chocolate, bread, bitter chocolate. Pretty nice!
3.9 Pours black, very dark brown. I'd say some chocolate orange on the nose. Moderately carbonated. Dark chocolate taste with pleasant bitterness at the end. Rich, but not overwhelmingly. I enjoyed it and would enjoy it again, on my usual schedule of 2-4 light to 1 dark.
3.2 Thanks Kraddel. Old bottle... so I can't really make a fair judgment. Oxidized.
4.1 0.3 bottle. Pours dark brown color with medium to high off-white, mostly lasting head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, malts. Medium sweet, light to medium bitter flavor, chocolate. Finish is medium long with light chocolate bittersweet. Clear, medium body, soft carbonation.
2.7 (From old notes Jan 2013) This is odd. Thin. Sweet. Confectionery. It’s like cold drinking chocolate without milk. Wouldn’t buy again.
3.4 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Poured a clear medium brown with a frothy off white head. The aroma is sweet malt, lactose, sweet milk chocolate. The flavour is moderate sweet with a smooth, yet slightly watery, roast, liquorice hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Improved greatly when it had had a little air.
2.0 Review from memory. Not something that I would return to. Had a bottle once is Wetherspoon and that was enough. Very sweet, almost novelty.
3.7 Bottle at home. Deep brown coor, good beige head. Lots of chocolate in the aroma and taste. For me this would be a nice beer at a dessert with vanila ice cream.
3.5 Black coloured porter with brown shining through it and a cream coloured head. Aroma: sweet, fruity, candy and some roast Taste: chocolate, coffee, some vanilla and sweet.
3.8 Delicious dark chocolate aroma. Chocolate and latte on taste. Medium body, light carbonation. Great beer. Great way to finish the evening.
3.8 330 ml bottle,bb 28/09/2018. Dark mahogany, clear, beige head. Nose - chocolate in front then caramel, coffee and some dark fruit. Taste - dark chocolate, roasted malt, light bitterness. A little bit too watery.
4.2 26-09-2017; bottle; at Jofel, Rotterdam. The looks of the beer are very nice. It looks like a perfect Porter. The color of the beer is an extremely dark brown, almost black. The beer is to dark to say anything about the clarity. On top of je beer a nice layer of almond colored foam is formed. Foam retention is avarage. After a while only a thin drape is left. Nice. The smell of the beer is nice. It has a good Porter aroma. There are a lot of chocolate aromas. I smell strong chocolate, which is clear and pure. Besides the chocolate there are nice aromas of caramel and coffee, but mainly chocolate. There is also nice touch of hops, giving some fruitiness, but he main aroma is chocolate. Nice. The taste of the beer is also nice. It is less chocolaty than the smell though. There are some flavors of caramel and coffee, but still the chocolate is the strongest. There are some slightly stronger hops. They give some nice fruity bitters. The beer is well balanced. Nice. The palate is fine. Full body, slightly sticky texture and low carbonation. The finish contains nice chocolate flavors and a nice hoppy bitterness. A very good beer, I like it.
3.0 Very bitter dark chocolate and roasted or burnt malts combine in an unusual beer. OK. Drinkable
3.3 Colore scuro, schiuma compatta e persistente. Al naso malti tostati e cioccolato. Al palato predomina il cioccolato, caffè. Corpo leggero, con una carbonazione alta per il tipo di birra, dove il cioccolato predomina. Una porter che si beve facilmente anche nei mesi caldi.
3.7 Dark brown beer with thick beige head. Aroma is full of chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is nice sweet chocolate and vanilla with little bitter ending. Nice warming and enjoyable beer.
4.0 Chocolade/mocca tintje, prima biertje
3.5 330ml bottle. Pours dark cherry with a beige head. Nose is like a room temperature hot chocolate with some roasted malts. Medium mouth feel. Lots of chocolate. milk chocolate. Perhaps a bit too much. Roasted malts, milkshake and milky coffee and a slight bitter finish on the taste. Decent.
3.8 Enjoyed a bottle at Bistro L’Autre Oeil, Aylmer. Pours a thin brownish foamy head but goes away after a bit. Has a very dark brown appearance. Ok lacing. Nice mild aromas of chocolate and dark roasted malts and light vanilla notes. Flavours of mocha, chocolate and roasted malts. Some notes of caramel and a bit of vanilla in the finish. Medium retention. Wet mouthfeel, light creaminess. Very good. :)
2.3 Geurend naar chocolade mout en ook in de smaak met bittere de poeder hinten ; aardig gelukt
