3.2 500ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with small to average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Roasty, dark malty aroma, hints of coffee, underlying, cautious hints of blueberry. Taste is roasty dark malty, slightly bitter, subtle sweetness, fruity hints of blueberry and bramble; minimally metallic finish.
3.2 Bottle - dark with small tan head. Strong citrus - vanilla aroma. Slight ting in mouth, good chocolate taste with bitter finish. Bit watery consistency - not thick and creamy - better when initial fizz fades.
2.9 Dunkel, ganz leicht rötlich. Geruch nach dunklen Beeren. Im Geschmack dann Aschenbecher und Johannisbeeren. Bitter zum Ende.
2.5 Bottle from Waitrose. Pours rich dark brown, the body looks like Coke, but with a bubbly beige head. Aroma is weak and somewhat flat, with some wheat, coffee, also a bit of earth and cardboard (although not unpleasant). Rather watery in texture. Somewhat refreshing for a stout.
3.7 Bottle 500ml. Price 1,69€. Labai graži spalva, puikios putos...Labai geras skonis...
3.3 Mörkbrun öl med beige skum. Lätta rostade toner, kaffe, lakrits och nötighet i doft och smak.
2.9 500ml bottle. Dark umber, pours with an off-white head. Weak aroma of malt. Similarly weak, the flavour is of burnt malt, with an slight aftertaste not unlike the scent of a freshly-painted room. Odd, to say the least. EDIT: having sampled a second bottle, the paint-like aftertaste is no longer present, having been replaced by a faint milkiness. Much more agreeable than an aftertaste of primer! (taste score raised from 5 to 7)
3.1 500ml bottle. Very dark brown almost black colour. Small tan brown head doesn’t last long. Aroma seems a bit weak but there’s definitely a roasted coffee/malt, a little chocolate. Flavour is pretty much the same, roasted malts, a bit of coffee and/or chocolate too but mostly in the aftertaste. Pretty nice beer, just feels a little weak compared to similar beers.
3.4 Butelka. Ciemno brazowe prawie czarne. Piana srednia palona szybko opadajaca. W zapachu chmiele palone i kawowe nuty. Smak dominuje kawa.karmel i lekko chlebowy posmak. Swietne piwo.
3.3 Appearance-Extremely lively head that stays for ages! The beer is a deep caramel/coca cola colour, with very mild carbonation, and good lacing around the glass Aroma-Some roasted coffee notes escape through the thick head. A stale bread and yeasty smell is also present. Alcohol is present, but a little unpleasant smelling Taste-Sweet with a bitter note developing. Quite well rounded and smooth down the throat. Some flat coffee notes developing as well. Milk chocolate present when lapped over tongue. Burnt notes aswell Palate-Soft and a little oily. Coats the roof of the mouth. Abrupt finish however, leaving a whisper of bitterness. Very easy drinking Overall-A decent pint to session, especially with the relatively low alcohol, but for a craft stout, it leaves a little to be desired, especially in taste
3.5 How: Bottle.. Where: Tasting 2015-10-09, bought at the brewery. Appearance: Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma: Roasted malt, chocolate, fruit. Body: Medium body and carbonation. Flavour: Roasted malt, chocolate, some coffee.
3.5 Body: slight cocoa, slight coffee. Body: slight ‘spent BBQ’ smokiness. Finish: wispy, but not thin.
3.4 50cl bottle on 26-Sep-2015. Black with a generous beige coloured head. Creamy mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Aroma of cocoa. Slightly bitter chocolate taste, coffee and roasted malt. Slightly bitter aftertaste with lingering chocolate.
2.8 Bottle.Almost black colour with medium beige head.Aroma is mild roasted and malty.Aroma is slight metallic and with flavor of chocolate milk and toasted caramel, slight bready with short finish.
3.1 Bottle from my local Waitress in Berko, pours a very dark brown with deep orange highlights and a rich tan head. The smell is molasses, roasted malt, dark fruit. The taste is roasted malt, molasses, dark fruit ending dry and roast with a touch of coffee. The body is light/medium with prickly carbonation.
3.1 Pours black. Aroma is slightly coffee, bread. Taste has a little too much burnt, its light and easy to drink.
3.2 Taste of malt with distinct coffee tones. Pure, deep, full-bodied stout with velvety mouth feeling and long elegant aftertaste.
3.2 Surprisingly very fruity very dark stout with seamingky pake taste. Still tastes good.
3.9 Keg at Brew Wharf, Borough Market. Black with a thick creamy head. Once it had warmed a little (still don’t understand why craft brewers kill their great flavours by serving the beer so cold) it was a lovely smooth stout with rich chocolate and roast malt flavours. The roasting hasn’t been overdone so it’s not bitter or burnt- it’s not sweet either- Goldilocks would no doubt think it was "just right" and the perfect accompaniment for the chocolate pud that the thieving cow was no doubt about to nick from poor baby bear. Very easy to drink, this goes down a treat. A lovely stout... oh, hang about, I’ve just gone to add my rating and I’m astonished to find it’s actually a schwarzbier. Would never have guessed, to think that a schwarz is a decent stout is a pretty good compliment for a schwarz I reckon (even if I was misled by the name!). Easily my highest rated schwarz to date.
3.2 Funny how it is an old Londonian stout and in the "meantime" a lager.... Anyway the beer isn’t bad. It had indeed a rich malty character of a typical stout with a bit dark fruit aroma to it. It mostly rich chocolate. Easy to drink with dairy and chocolate flavor. Aftertaste still dairy and a bit like milk chocolate in the background. Very mild taste overall.
3.4 Bottle from Waitrose, consumed at home. Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Coffee and liquorice on the nose, with hints of saltwater taffy and woodsmoke. Sweet creamy taste with hints of stone fruit, condensed milk and stewed vegetable in the finish. Fairly weak body. Above average all in all.
3.7 Negra opaca. Espuma crema abundante pero que en seguida se disipa. Aroma a café. Cuerpo ligero, pero cremosa. Impecable sabor que mezcla muy bien un tono frutal con un final muy seco y amargo, de café. Muy sabrosa. Muy bebible.
3.1 Bottle from Waitrose. Pours deep brown with a cream head. A little coffee in the aroma. The taste is roast notes and spice. The spiciness dominates the roast flavours making this a fairly poor stout.
2.5 Looks the part with the typical black and white appearance of a stout but the aroma is rather weak and you really have to try to get any roastiness into your nostrils. Similarly, the mouthfeel is somewhat thin but the finish typically bitter. Probably works best if you drink it with your eyes shut and pretend it’s a bitter. Mediocre at best. Followed it down with a bottle of Hook Norton’s excellent Double Stout and there really was no contest.
3.5 Bottle; pours dark brown with a beige head; aroma of coffee with hints of chocolate and vanilla; taste is a little lighter than what I expected with coffee, molasses, and vanilla with a hint of caramel; has dry light bitter, coffee finish; good but not great stout
3.8 Origin: Bottle. Vessel: Pint Glass. Supplier: Waitrose (Romsey). Large head. Roasted and slightly bitter malts.
3.6 From 500ml bottle. Short tan head over dark beer. Aroma is roasted malt. Palate is fizzy, thick and slightly astringent. Flavour is grassy, dark malt, dregs of black coffee, distant licorice in the dry slightly bitter finish. Bottle label says it’s a Malt only recipe but also displays the Yeast, Malt, Water, Hops logo which is a bit misleading.
2.7 Quite a disappointment. Schwarzbier for me should be nearly around stout, but you cant call 4.5 ABV "stout". Mostly water with some evident roasted malt presence. Thats about it Light cocoa background, moderate to light sweetness, light bitterness. Watery
2.9 Bottle from Waitrose. (£2.09) Pours creamy. Overall impression is it's a quite delicate stout, with some flavour present, but nothing too special. Cairngorm's Black Gold (slightly weaker at 4.4% ABV) has much more complexity. Average.
