11/11/11/10/13/11
3.4 Didn’t know this was classed as a Schwarzbier until saw it categorised here, but that is pretty much right, although as one would expect with a Winter bottled ale it has a bit more flavour and complexity than the average German Black Beer. Roasted malt aroma, chocolate, coffee undercurrents and smoky fires in the flavour. Some sweet caramel and subtle bitterness on the finish. Really nice drinkable Winter Ale.
3.5 Bottle - Very dark. Tan head. Roasted malts. Sweet and fruity at first followed by loads of smoke/ash and coal tar. Low to medium bitterness.
3.0 11th October 2007 Warning! Early amateur rating! Pleasant beer with subtle coffee and smoky notes. Some subtle sweetness, certainly no bitterness. Alright.
3.3 Bottle@Home. Quite malty aroma, lightly roasted. Dark brown, light brown head, fair lace. Sweetish, light bitter, malty, lightly roasted, light herbal hops. Easy going.
3.2 Bottle 50 cl. Poured almost black with slightly tan head. Aroma is smoke, coffee and even some chocolate. Flavour is slightly roasted and coffee. Also some light smoke with wooden notes detected. Ok, but a bit thin.
2.9 Pours pretty dark brown with a medium brownish head. Aroma is roasted malts, flavor is mostly roasted malts too with some spices and caramel. Quite watery. Disappointing.
3.3 500 ml bottle. Clear dark reddish brown colour, medium-sized light beige head. Smoky aroma of roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Dryish, salty, roasted-malty, smoky flavour with a roasted, bitter finish. OK, but a bit too light-bodied.
3.1 500 ml bottle. Finland. Dark reddish brown colour with small tan head. Coffee, hops and roasted malt in aroma. Flavour is pretty much the same. Some bitterness.
3.2 Bottle. Reddish brown colour with a small off-white head. Roasted malt and smoke in the nose. Flavour is smoky, roasted malt some sweetness and bitterness. Light to medium body.
2.7 Bottle. Nice ruby red/copper brown color, rich and fluffy head. The first thing that strikes me in the aroma is the smoke. Wasn´t really expecting that, but as a great fan of Bamberg, it´s all good. Unfortunately, nothing else really happens with this beer, and it ends up feeling like a pretty lame copy of Schlenkerla´s Märzen. The palate is weak, and in the end the brew feels rather watery.
3.5 Bottle from Alko. Dark cola brown colour, off-white staying head. Very smoky malty aroma. Smoke malts also in the taste which is not as sweet as Schlenkerlas’. A bit watery ending, a bit more body would be nice there. Quite nice smoky schwarz.
2.4 Brown colour. Aroma is smoke, coffee and a micture of dark fruits and vegetables. Flavour is roasted malts, just a little bit of metallic notes with a dry finish.
3.4 Dark brown beer with medium and beige head. Aroma is medium roasted, sour, chaulk and dry with some coffee, also hint of chocolate. Flavour is balanced with aroma, roastiness, coffee, some sourness and sweetness; nothing special, but still balanced and nice. Quiote light body with medium/quite high carbonation. Easy and quite light winter warmer.
3.7 {thoughts} Roasty, spicy and earthy; pleasantly dry and heavy with lingering flavors. {elements} Medium brown hue with a red tinge; tall, light tan cream. Aroma is of mild coffee with kaleidoscopic underpinnings of vanilla, clove, old books, figs and caramel. Off-dry, mild and clean acidity, soft and balancing bitterness; broad coffee flavors without overpowering roast, soft caramel and evergreen / juniper; long, lingering smoky and spicy aftertaste. Slick texture, moderate carbonation, medium body. 50 cl bottle, best before 27/10/2011.
2.9 Bottle. Reddish brown, small to average fully diminishing head. Light to moderate lightly sweetish malty aroma, some roasted malt and barnyard. Body is light to medium, malty and lightly roasted flavor with notes of coffee. Finish is short to average, malty with some roasted malt and coffee. This thin bodied and lightly hopped beer from London is not very “wintery” up here north – more like autumn beer. On the positive side – no added spices.
3.1 500 ml bottle. BBE 27.10.2011. Pours a dark reddish brown colour with a small white head. Aroam of syrup and chocolate malts. Flavour of chocolate malts, mild coffee and a huge amount of salt. Not very pleasant. Medium bodied with a thin mouthfeel and a dry finish. Yet another average brew from Meantime.
2.5 Bottled. Slightly sour, caramelly taste Sulphuric off-taste. Quite pleasant, floral/soapy fuggle hops. Dryish maltiness and slightly fruity aftertaste. Somewhat sticky and bland mouthfeel.
3.6 500ml Bottle at Pumphouse, Sydney. Pours a dark brown, with a thick beige head. The aroma is roasted malts with a hint od citrus and caramel/toffee. Fairly thin in the mouth, but not unpleasantly so. Flavours are sweet caramel with chocolate, a light citrus and some berries. light bitterness on the finish.
3.2 Bottle. Pours clear, very dark brownish ruby with a short off-white head that shrinks to surface cover fairly quickly. Aroma is mildly roasty and quite fruity with notes of raisins, dates, cherries and chocolate. Flavour is maltier than the aroma, with hints of caramel, coffee, wood and biscuit, but the fruity notes are pretty much the same. Light, thin body with moderate carbonation and a lingering roasty finish. Not too bad overall but could have been much better with a bit more body and alcohol.
2.9 Carted a bottle over to Berlin with me. Deep dark brown beer, tan head. Aroma is particularly spicy, bit notes of roasted malt and mollasses. Doesn’t give away too much. Quite thick texture, bolstered by a relatively low carbonation. Considerably sweet body; chocolate, raisins, milky coffee, cinnamon like spice and peppery phenolics. Finish has a relatively low bitterness. Seems like a nightcap sort of beer, without the all important booze!
3.5 Dark amber with a thick tan head. Malty with chocolate notes. Hops, coffee and hops. Medium body with dry finish.
2.9 Pours reddish brown, tan head. Raisiny nose, hint of choc, bit of spice. Flavour has a slight sweetness, chocolate malt, a little bit of raisin fruit. Just not screaming winter to me. It’s a bit thin.
3.5 Dark brown, rapidly dissipating beige head. Mild roasted malt aroma with caramel and some port and lemon. Taste is chocolate sweet with some dark fruit backed with a gentle but insistent bitterness. Just slightly oily/ sticky body, but it’s pretty light. Dry finish with some smoke. Draws you in.
2.8 Reddy brown beer. Not great, a little disappointing. Out a bottle at parent’s house.
3.8 My bottle is different the one on the picture. Same brewery though. Best before 17th December 2010. Poured from a 500ml bottle bought from Sainsburry’s (whilst I could find it) into a Budvar tankered glass. No smoke from the bottle. Pours a thick red/brown colour. Lovely red texture. Like Newcastle Brown Ale x300%. Really nice touch. The head is creamy and raised but simmers down to a lght creamy head similar to Budvar Dark funilly enough. Aroma is good, dark chocolate roasted malts, chocolate, burnt toast and biscuits. Leather, vanilla and raisen texture. A very nice winter warmer. I recommend. I’d love to have this at the brewery. This is a fantastic beer by one of my favourite domestic breweries.
2.5 hazy brown in colour, thick, fine bubbled beige head. smells strongly of spoilt old cooking apples and alcohol. very fizzy and extremely watery in flavour. very thin ... a faint taste of coffe, smoke and old pork. disapointing...
3.3 Färg: Kaffe, lätt och snabbt försvinnade skum Doft: Kaffe, mäsk?, vörtbröd Smak. Mörk rostat kaffe, fyllig smak som försvinner omgående. Sista ex i Karlskoga (utställnings dito). Provdatum: 2008-12-27
2.6 Another poor Meantime beer for me. Looked like coca cola, with a thin palate. Nice faint chocolate in the mouth but otherwise thin, uninteresting and a general waste of time.
3.0 Bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a small off-white head. Roasted malty aroma with hints of chocolate. Has a roasted malty sweetish caramel flavor with hints of chocolate. Has a roasted malty finish with some hints of bitterness in the aftertaste and some hints of chocolate.
