Take an India Pale Ale and feed it steroids, ergo the term Double IPA. Although open to the same interpretation as its sister styles, you should expect something robust, malty, alcoholic and with a hop profile that might rip your tongue out. The Imperial usage comes from Russian Imperial stout, a style of strong stout originally brewed in England for the Russian Imperial Court of the late 1700s; though Double IPA is often the preferred name.

You can thank west coast American brewers for this somewhat reactionary style. "Thanks!"

3.6 Can 0,33. Pours clear yellow with medium white head, good retention. Citrus, malts, caramel, pine. Medium body average carbonation.
3.4 Can shared with Caesar. Quite clear yellow golden color, medium to full sized white to off-white head. Smell and taste malts, hops, piney and resinous a bit, mandarins, decently bitter. There might be some rye influence in there but it's hard to describe how that comes through exactly. Decent.
3.9 355 ml can. Pours clear golden color with a large white head. Aroma is resinous hoppy, lots of malt character, orange and citrus notes, some pine needles too. Very resinous hoppy flavor too, good malty body, orange and subtle grapefruit tones. The bitterness lingers for a while on the aftertaste. Very tasty and balanced DIPA. 4515

Amazingly delicious tropical fruity and slightly tart fruity hoppy aroma with mild bitterness, dryness and some maltiness. The flavor is fruity, resiny and citrusy hoppy, moderately bitter, dry and slightly malty. Grapefruit there too.

3.8 Can shared at home Ken tasting, sourced from Kihoskh - golden amber pour with a white head. Sweet malty and fruity with caramel and fudge notes, some grapefruit and tangerine, citrus rind, sweet malty backbone, medium body, resinous hoppy bitter close. Solid old skool DIPA
3.4 Can at Kultainen Apina, Tampere. Color is clear orange with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Some fruits, pine, hops and malts. Decent.
3.8 Almost clear golden color with light beige head. Aroma has quite intense resiny hop notes with tangerine rind on top. Taste follows with really resiny, earthy and leafy hops with bittersweet flavors. Medium body and carbonation. The slightly harsh bitterness makes it more drinkable, hiding the alcohol quite well.
3.8 Clear golden colour with a foamy white head. Citrusy aroma, some pineapple, grass. Medium bitter taste, malty, fruity finish. Medium body, low medium carbonation, smooth mouthfeel.
3.9 Very fruity, citrus aroma. Golden color with white head. Citrus taste, hint of malt, with good bitter finish.
3.7 Can from Boxbeers. Bbe not readable. Poured golden color. Thin white head. Aroma has urinal cake, candy fruits, pine and lupulin powder. Sweet caramel malts, pine, resin and grapefruit. Bitter finish. Warming. Lovely aroma, even though not the freshest can. Probably really good when fresh.
3.8 Canned on 09/04/18. Clear copper with a medium sized white head with fine retention, lace and regeneration. Candied fruit, flowers, white bread, hay, candied citrus. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, medium sweet and bitter with warming alcohol. Long warming finish with flowers and candied fruit. Very good double ipa that carries the alcohol well.
3.4 35 cl can @ home. Pours clear golden with a white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are pine, grapefruit, and malt - with a bitter finish.

3.8 Can given by alexsdad06. Poured clear golden copper color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Medium to heavy complex hop aroma. Medium to full body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy complex bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.
3.9 Very full, but balanced. Not at all heavy. Mango and citrus with a bit of a grassy thing. Not earthy or floral, but the hops are there, not too bitter or dry. I rather nice IIPA.
3.7 12 oz. can from Higher Gravity. Pours a pretty much clear gold with a white head that settles into a thick ring and thin film. Notes of florals, resin, sweet malts, straw, grass, citrus peel, grapefruit, and some dried tropical fruit. Medium-full bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, resinous, mildly bitter mouthfeel. Pretty good but doesnโ€™t pop like some of the stuff I had on tap at Thai Me Up.
