Mendocino Imperial IPA

Mendocino Imperial IPA

This full bodied Imperial IPA is brewed with massive amounts of premium varieties of hops such as Amarillo, Cascade, Simcoe and Crystal and paired with a rich blend of luscious Munich, caramel and 2-row pale malts. The result is a perfect balance of luxuriant malt and heady, exhilarating hop flavor. After primary fermentation is finished, we dry hop our Imperial IPA with copious quantities of the above mentioned hops. It is then cold conditioned for a few weeks. The result is an outstanding and unforgettable hop aroma. Starting with an original gravity of 20 Plato and finishing at 8.0% alcohol by volume, this Imperial India Pale is a hop tour de force!

3.6 Pepparrot o russin torkade frukter i doften.
Kom igen
3.6 Poured from a bottle it is axclear amber color with a slight head. The aroma is of citrus and the taste is a strong bitter citrus flavor that lingers on the palate
3.4 From a 12 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a cloudy copper with an off white head. Aroma of caramel and fruity hops. Flavor the same with a hint of licorice. Smooth mouthfeel with lots of carbonation. Bitter finish.
3.7 Bottle from Total Wine, Bellevue, Seattle, WA, USA. A dark orange coloured pour with a thin white head on top. Sweet, malty, hoppy aroma. Tastes hoppy, malty, sweet, caramel, slightly bitter ending. This was a nice DIPA, I’m surprised at the low ratings for this, I could drink it all evening.

4.1 30-AUG-2013, bottle @home, from Fish & Beer. Almost clear dark golden with white lasting head. Aroma is wonderful fruity hops with grape fruit, some pine and a touch of licorice. Taste the same. Very creamy. Very bitter. This is a fine IIPA. Think this is "underrated" here. I really like it.
3.8 Color is a clear golden, with som agents that make it look unfiltered. White head that last pretty well. Aroma is hoppy-fruity, mostly citrus. Taste is well balanced with hoppy flavors of grape and bitternes. The alcoholic taste is precent and not perfectly integrated.

3.5 11/10/2010: Mendocino Imperial IPA... Aroma: Floral hops, orange-citrus, honey maltiness. Appearance: Hazy, color of honey; nice dense head of beige to light ivory-colored foam that lasts; nice lacing. Flavor: Toffee, toasted honey comb maltiness; bittersweet floral, grapefruit peel/citrus bitterness; sthiky resin aftertaste; moderate to generous level of bitterness overall. Palate: Medium-full; smooth. Overall: Quite enjoyable, but not as good as the Mendocino Winter Seasonal Imperial IPA. 12 fl. oz. bottle (8.0% ALC/VOL) from Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #174 for this beer.

3.1 Flaske: Orange uklar øl med store proteinklumper med et fint skumhoved. Duft af maltsødme. Smagen er parfumeret humle med en del sødme. God mundfylde og bitterhed.
2.5 Bottle @ Greg’s picked up in the Midwest. Pours a hazy orange appearance with an off white head. Breast, oxidized, grapefruity, bitter aroma. Boozy, bitter herbal hoppy, cardboard flavor. Blah.

3.4 Bottle. Dark straw color, cloudy, white head. Medium body, assertive fruity hop aroma, finish is short with sons flavor. Decent IPA, not overly strong.
3.3 Tap at Rattle’N’Hum, NYC, 20/05/13. Hazed golden amber with a thin off white head that retains well. Nose is light hops, sweaty socks, citrus, touch of spice, bitter orange. Taste comprises hops, caramel, pine, grapefruit, orange. Full end of medium body, fine carbonation, hop bitterness in the finish. Ok - but at the lower end of the spectrum for a DIPA!
2.6 Bottle: hazy amber pour with thin beige head. Aroma is hoppy with overripe citrus and toffee. Flavor is muddled with grapefruit, overripe apricot, caramel, bread, yeast and some oxidation. This beer might well be past its prime, there is no crisp citrus/pine hop character and it is dominated by bready caramel with a bitter bite, not horrible, just not great.
3.7 Bottle. Orange caramel and orange peel aroma. Hazy golden yellow with small head. Sweet caramel malt and moderately bitter orange peel flavor. Nice balance. Pretty good.
2.2 Pours light orange, hazed...with a short tan head. A slightly musty cardboard aroma, must be the elaborate mix of hops or age.... Taste is caramel, dusty, dull fruit. Not thrilled with it.
3.2 Drought. Light amber color, spongy beige head, hops aroma, sweet hoppy taste, long finish. A typical IPA.
3.2 Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. The aroma is hoppy, resin, pine, some oxidization. The flavor is caramel, resin, pine, woody, oxidized. Not amazing, a basic IIPA.
2.8 12oz bottle thanks to Dallas! Pours a hazy deep copper color with medium creamy head retention. Aroma is syrupy malt (its not an old IPA), apricot, and caramel. Tastes is grapefruit, apricot, caramel, with some piny aftertaste. Pretty basic ipa
2.2 Bottle from Five Points Bottle Shop (Atlanta Highway) in Athens. Dark sugary aroma, some oxidation? Coppery-brown, with a light tan head. Very sweet initial, and some rotten fruit off flavors / gets even sweeter in mid, and the rot is still there / some minor bitterness in final. Medium body. This is pretty bad. Something perhaps way off here.
