3.5 Pours a near black color. Brown-tan head with some lacing as it dissipates Toasted malt and coffee aroma. Flavor is nice with hints of caramel.
3.5 12 ounce bottle from Bottle and Wedge Huntington. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized fizzy tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of nuts, oats, chocolate, roasted malts. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, honey, oats, mild bitter hops. Medium bodied, slight lingering bitterness, decent balance.
3.6 Dark brown/black color; Medium creamy body; Aroma of toasted malt, nice chocolate, & coffee; Flavor of roasted malt, oats, chocolate, some caramel, and coffee; Nicely balanced; Pretty decent.
3.8 12 oz. bottle. Pours a thick, well retained beige head, with some lacing, over a black, brown (SRM 35) body....nose is chocolate light coffee from the roasted malts, light herbal notes from the hops....taste is slightly sweet with roasted malts tones including cocoa, chocolate, coffee, leading to a moderate hop bitterness.....mouth feel, body medium heavy, creamy, slightly oily, minimal alcohol, carbonation adds tingle and soft acid. This is a good example of the style. It is malt dominated, with nice roasted malt character, light balancing hops, and superb body. BJCP 8/3/15/5/7
3.1 Chocolate and coffee aromas. Tan head, deep brown in color. Medium body. Lacking some depth.
3.9 smell is a nice roasty malt with a little bitter coffee scent pours black with tan head the flavour profile is really nice mild coffee notes with a roasted slightly choc taste slight bitter at first followed by a nice sweet finish not to rich though
3.6 Black, thin tan head.Great dry roast nose.Somewhat bitter roasted espresson palate with vague metallic hints. Dry roast finish. Nice !!
3.7 12 ounce bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with an inch and a half tan head after a strong pour. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, oats, coffee, and chocolate. I think the taste is just like the aroma, except that that there’s a bit of dark fruitiness noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s creamy and has a good amount of carbonation. I think it’s a good Oatmeal Stout, definitely worth trying.
3.4 Pours a dark black with a brown head. Has a sweet aroma of chocolate and coffee. Taste is very sweet with vanilla and coffee.
3.7 12oz bottle pours almost black with large fluffy coffee colored head. The aroma is full of coffee and chocolate. The taste is a smooth blend of coffee, chocolate and oats. There Is a mild bitterness on the back end but very mild. Overall a really good oatmeal stout.
3.5 Bottle. Pours oily black with khaki head. Aroma of molasses, chocolate. Rich mouthfeel, with a slightly bitter finish. Overall, more sweet than bitter. Good, not overly complex, but very drinkable.
3.8 A black body supports a fairly resilient medium khaki head of creamy to frothy texture creating dense lace with dimension off the glass Welcoming, smooth, rich oatmeal greets the senses with a solid balancing layer of robust dark coffee and chocolate on a somewhat surprisingly full medium-heavy body with solid carbonation, very satisfying for a session 2 x 12oz bottle code 141326713267130802 at 45º into 20oz nonic
4.3 Great beer. One of my favorite oatmeal stouts. Dark black color, full bodied. Hints of chocolate and coffee. Great beer for coffee lovers.
3.9 This is a very nice beer. It is very smooth but full-bodied at the same time. It went really well with our burgers. Nice hearty coffee flavors that went down a little too easy. I will definitely purchase this beer again. I look forward to drinking it again.
3.4 Bottle poured a super dark brown color with a one finger frothy brown head that melted back to a solid ring. Aroma has coffee, dark chocolate, and a bit of dusty oats. Mouth feel is medium light and the carbonation average. Flavor is a bit thin for me overall but all the flavors are there. Mild roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee bitterness, and again light oats. Very much session strength.
3.0 Bottle @ some house as part of pre-gaming festivities (yes, I’m this much of a loser). Dark brown pour with a khaki head. The nose isn’t so bad. Roast, cocoa, and some coffee. Light buttered graham cracker sweetness. Flavor is a bit sweeter than expected. Graham cracker and a bit of butterscotch. Roasted malt, cocoa, and coffee. Certainly could do worse.
3.7 Poured black with a thin mocha head. Very little aroma and the taste was heavy in the roasted coffee department. Light fizz made this a very smooth and refreshing stout.
3.2 Bottle into glass..black pour with light brown head...aroma of funky raisen and makts.. weird
3.1 Another winter seasonal I'm trying to drink way too late. I get the idea... Roasty, coffee and at one time less fizz/more body.
3.4 Great stout pour - nearly black with a thin mocha head. Aroma is a slightly faint for the style. The taste is malty with a roasty undertone. It’s not bad but a little dry on the finish. It’s solid but nothing makes this outstanding.
2.8 Bottle from ?? - catching up on old ratings from Oct/Nov 2012 timeframe. Will add a review, eventually...
3.5 Draft @ Sunset Grill. Pint glass shows a nice thick tan head that laced until the black liquid was finished. Aroma is all roasted malt. Flavor is lightly sweet with some coffee bean bitterness, light amount of oat flakes and some sweet chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium leaning on the light side, pretty creamy texture and smooth. Overall, my only complaint is that it isn’t thicker. Could use more oatmeal but still a very easy drinking stout.
3.7 12oz bottle from ABC on Betton. Near black pour with thin tan head that disappears quickly. Aroma is charred roasty malt. Tastes are chocolate and light smoke with good amount of caramel in background. Palate on the thin side, but also creamy. Was turned off at first by all of the smoke, but kind of digging on it more as I go.
3.1 12 oz bottle that was part of the Winter 2012 World Market 9 pack, courtesy of my in-laws. The pour is a lightly hazed black brown with a smallish tan head that falls quick. The aroma is tobacco leafy, roast malt, and a touch of light sweet cream. The taste is the soft roast, leafy grass, and finishes with a lightly sweet malt. After taste is the roast, showing a touch of char. As the beer warms, notes of soy and licorice surface, which detracted. The palate is light to medium bodied, soft full carbonation, and the char grass finish.
3.3 Pours a dark opaque brown with good tan head and lacing. Aroma reminds me of chocolate syrup with chocolate and vanilla flavors. Some caramel and milky aromas also. Taste is milk chocolate with lightly roasted malt and oats, quite a bit of caramel sweetness and vanilla. Finishes with a bit of dark chocolate bitter. Mouthfeel is medium-full and somewhat creamy but higher carbonation keeps it from feeling as creamy as I'd like. Maybe could have benefitted from a slightly higher ABV and less carbonation. May have made the flavor richer and more complex for my palate but still drinkable. ---Jeremy H
3.5 Poured from 12 oz. bottle to English pint glass. Very dark brown to black. Large creamy/rocky light brown long-lasting head with great lacing. Moderate malty smell with light yeast and no discernible hops. Pleasant cookie aroma that carried to the flavor. Starts and ends sweet with a medium creamy body and soft mouthfeel.
3.2 Poured into a New Belgium globe glass. Dark, dark brown with a dark tan head, medium-large in size. Nose is sweet oatmeal, as if someone dumped a good amount of maple syrup on their breakfast oatmeal, but with a touch of sourness. Taste was somewhat balanced. Not bad, but lacking what I expect in a good oatmeal stout.
3.3 Pours a rich deep umber color with a big khaki foam. Aromas are roasted malts, chocolate and wet bark mulch. The flavors follow the nose nicely with rich creamy mouthfeel that bitters out nicely in the finish.. could be a little fuller on the body but overal a solid session stout.
3.6 The bouquet is definitely sweeter than the flavor. The appearance richer than the palate. Oatmeal certainly dominates the nose. Bitterness tends to dominate everywhere else.
3.5 21 Feb 2013, bottle. black. nose is roasted grain, burnt toast, faint ground coffee. med body, slightly watery and oily, mildly fizzy. oily coffee and burnt coffee beans. lingering dark chocolate finish. decent
