Meteor Wendelinus Blonde

Meteor Wendelinus Blonde

Another idea from the abbey
Brewed in the tradition of the monks of Wissembourg, who had their beer made on the current site of the brewery, Wendelinus is the result of a centuries-old know-how. Beneath its amber colour and creamy head is an abbey beer with a range of flavours that mature on the palate with every mouthful. Strong, with a pleasant touch of bitterness, this is a beer to be savoured for its persistent mellowness and caramelized fruity flavours. Take your time with it!

2.1 330ml bottle (eDrinks, Tallinn) Sweet malty aroma. Sweet malty taste, woof what a kick of alcohol! Sweetish honey tinge, and a Belgian twist to the taste. Full sweet palate, but rough.
2.6 33cl bottle from eDrinks, Haabersti. Pours clear dark golden with a fairly fast dissipating, white head.Fairly grainy and slightly fruity aroma with notes of honey, caramel and Belgian yeast. Sweet and malty with some fruity and slightly spicy notes and a rather light bitterness. Alcohol gets quite noticeable as it warms up. Drinkable, but highly forgettable.
2.8 330ml bottle. Clear golden beer, medium white head. Nose is malty, grains, starch, sweetness and esters. Flavor is malts and grains with a watery edge, starch. Caramel notes in the finish, floral hops, sweetness. Graininess and wateriness work against this one, but it’s not a complete failure.
2.8 August 2016 - Bottle shared on level 42, picked up in the shop below One Canada Square. As ’Meteor Wendelinus Blonde’. Dark yellow, lightly sparkling, foamy white head. Aroma is buttery, spicy, some citrus, lager. Body is smooth with tingly carbonation. Taste is sweet, thin grainy malts, buttery with a spicy finish. Not a great beer, but interesting to try a biere de garde. In saying that, it’s quite a lot like a tripel. (2.8)
2.8 16th August 2016 Level 42 Bottleshare. Thanks to Danny. Clear gold beer, a few lonely white bubbles. Palate is light, dry and has modest fine carbonation. Sweet pale malts, sweet esters and sweet floralness. Tracen of citric hop. Sweet then! But inoffensive.
3.8 Color is a hazy orange-blonde with an aroma of fruity liquor and pool water but just fresh sterilized water and not in any bad connotation. Flowers, fruit, orange, spice and wheat. I feel like I have the whole French country side crop in my glass. All the subtle qualities of a rich dark Belgian beer without all the fuss
2.6 Bottle shared at the August Level 42 tasting. Thanks to Daniel. It pours a clean yellow color with a minimal white head. Aroma is grainy and starchy with straw and starch. Taste is slightly sweet fruity and perfumy with some stone fruit, grains, straw and starch. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, not exciting

Medium sweet flavour with sugary pale bread, more white grape, faint cereal. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet and bready on the finish, with hints of toffee, tangerine, more white grape, melon, white bread. Enjoyable BdG.
2.0 Bottle split at Level 42, thanks to the very dirty Danny, 16/08/16. Clear golden with a moderate off white covering. Nose is grain, sugars, light citric, hint of smoke. Taste comprises cereals, sugar puffs, soggy biscuits, caramel. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light grassy bitterness in the close. Not great.
2.7 Bottle thanks to Danny. It pours clear golden - blonde with a medium white head. The aroma is sweet, spicy, ginger, metallic vibe, icing sugar, madelines, almond cake and hay. The aroma is sweet - spicy, ginger, hay, warming alcohol, sticky, honey, straw, hay and hint of plastic with a sweet, sort of spicy finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. Fair.
3.8 Draft in Barcelonnette, France. Light Amber w thin head. Floral honey aroma and taste. Mild bitterness. Only negative is slight metallic aftertaste.
2.5 Bottle, 330ml. A clear golden beer with minimal white head. Aroma is of canned corn and wheat. Taste is bitter with considerable carbonation. Faint aftertaste of wheat. Barely above a macro.
2.8 Bottle, 33cl. Sparkling golden with a frothy offwhite head. Grainy, light fruity aromas. Medium to light bodied with fizzy carbonation. Medium sweet, low bitterness. Fruity character into a mild alcohol finish.
3.0 A clear, golden beer with a settling head that leaves a very thin white layer. Smell is clovey with doughy, caramel and bready whiffs. Taste is less clovey, but still quite spicy. The malt is bready and has some light caramellic notes.
3.3 75cl bottle shared at our holiday home in France. Clear golden with a small white head. Medium body with low to moderate carbonation. Medium sweetness with some bitter tones. Caramel, citrus, malts, peach and herbs. An ok blonde brew.
2.5 Draught at Riquewihr, France. Clear golden with small off-white head. Sweet fruity aroma (peach, pear, apricot) with notes of toffee. Very sweet flavor, notes of toffee, caramel and fruit cake, a bit alcoholic. Soft carbonation, medium-bodied.
2.8 33 cl. Bottle. Clear medium amber color, small frothy white head, mostly diminishing; aroma malty, caramel, bread, candy sugar, nutty notes, yeast; medium sweet taste, slightly bitter, sugary; medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste mild sweetbitter, light toasted, spicy notes; lacks character, thinnish, don’t like it.
3.1 Bottle, 25 cl, bought at E.Leclerc, Dizy (51). Quite powerful, the aroma is somewhat taken away, not strengthened.
3.0 Aroma: caramel, toffee, bread malts. Appearance: clear, light amber, small head. Taste: medium sweet. Palate: malty sweets continue, intense caramel. Overall: quite quaffable, not terribly sophisticated not refined, but nice anyway. Pint at Colbert, Chelsea.
3.0 Bottle at Sandholt Reykjavik. Pours clear golden with a small creamy white head. Aroma is sweet fruity, some spices as well. Taste is moderate sweet fruity with a spicy note, high carbonated, light bitter finish. Boring.
2.5 250ml flaska från beställningssortimentet på systembolaget. Fäldigt fin gyllene färg, lite mörkare än vad jag trodde att den skulle vara. Trevlig smak med toner av aprikos, men det är nog inget som jag kommer beställa igen.
3.4 Bottle from Spirited Wines. Appearance - amber with a thin head which disappears quickly. Nose - earthy, orangey and some red fruits. Taste - toffee, oranges, earthy again. Palate - medium bodied with a sweet and crunchy texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - interesting beer.
2.7 Clear golden with small and fast disappearing white head. Sweet malts, some cloves, light lemon and peach. Sweet with light yeasty bitter finish. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Meh
3.0 Bottle looks simple but really good. Beer in the glass zippy, small head. Spicy-sharp aroma. Starts strong-malty, some alcoholic notes, modest fruity like arpricot. Finish with some sourish and dry notes. Finish still intense malty and spicy. Still warming-alcoholic. Okay.
3.1 Clear, golden with minimum foam. Malt, toffee and a hint of banana in the aroma. Sweet malt, with toffee and a hint of fruit in the taste. High in carbon.
2.0 Bottle from the off license on Westbourne Grove. I was quite excited to see some new beers in there, what an idiot! Quite a deep amber colour, lacking head. Malty, sweet, caramel, really lacking any hop at all to balance, neither bitterness nor flavour to be found. When would a beer like this ever be appropriate?
2.9 Dunkel goldenes Bier mit geringer weißer Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr malzig, getreidig, etwas fruchtig. Geschmack sehr malzig fruchtig, etwas Karamell, süß, minimal alkoholisch.
2.7 Bottle at The Rock Tapas Bar. Aroma is very sweet malt with brown sugar and vanilla notes. Slightly oxidized notes as well, and as it warms some dates and figs. Tastes very malty and sweet. No hop presence at all. Tastes like that Spanish drink Malta. Ready to age, but not sure if that would be a good thing. One is enough, thanks.
2.8 Deep golden hue and extremely short-lived white head. Purchased in a 33cl bottle from Spirited Wines. Aroma of malts, vanilla, dates and cloves. Taste is quite sweet and with hints of fresh bread. Also notes of cloves, toffee and dried fruits. Plenty of alcohol at 6.8% but this beer is reasonably well-balanced. Not particularly complex for an abbey beer but quite pleasant. The after taste is a little strange and rather metallic.
