Michigan Brewing Mackinac Pale Ale

Michigan Brewing Mackinac Pale Ale

A deep golden-orange hue provides the backdrop for a well-balanced, medium bodied ale. Hop flavor and aroma are distinctly American with a spicy, citrus finish.

Editor’s note: Sold as Mackinac Summer Ale (5% ABV) in Sweden. (2008)

2.8 An amber pour with blonde highlights and a small white head. The nose is more of a caramel malt and less hoppy. The taste seems a little off. It ranges from bland and mildly sour, but finishes with a short aftertaste.
3.2 Pours a golden amber with an off white head. Aroma is light hops, caramel, and some overripe fruit. Flavor is caramel malts, grass, and mildly spicy hops.
2.4 Pours a hazy dull orange with a thinning he off white head. Aroma is phenolic, plastic, old stale cheesy hops, light minty stale crackery malts, some skunked uhops and solvent and medicinal hints. Flavor is DMS, strange stale cheese and hops, mint, mineral, metallic- cascade lemony and soapy like hops- stale malts and just old- blech.
3.3 A little more hoppy than I’d expect..a little more like an IPA. Not bad, not good just a beer that is there.
3.0 Pour is an orange with a small white head. Aroma is slight citrus hops that let you know there are there. Flavor is lots of citrus hop with a nice earthy malt backbone. A decent APA and quite sessionable.
2.7 Bottle: Deep red clear colour, with a nice creamy head. Aroma was werry fruity and some acramelly nose in the end. Flavor had a mild, smouth caramely mouth feeling, with a bit bitternes in the end.Thin body, short finish.
3.0 Bottle: Pours a clear orange with an off white film of head. Stale aroma with notes of plastic phenols and mild caramelized grains.Light body. The flavor is stale as well with a papery pale malt presence. There’s a slight herbal presence with restrained cascade hops and a metallic note. Slightly oxidized and one dimensional.
1.9 Bottle. Horrific, solventy, chemical acid aroma, has me recalling in horror. The flavor isn’t much different, a nasty toothpaste + orange juice flavor, wheat, cream. Blech.
3.0 Bottled as Michigan Mackinac Summer Ale. An amber beer with a huge orangey head. The aroma has notes of sweet malt as well as light notes of butter and diacethyl. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and light notes of butter, leading to a dry spicy finish.
3.1 Amber with a small off-white head. Sweet and juicy aroma of citrus hops. Dry and malty flavour with a little hop.
2.8 Bottle. Pours a coppery amber with little head. Aromas are faint and kind of grassy with a little bit of caramel and lemon. Flavor is largely bitter with a little bit of a caramel malt presence, but this is pretty unspectacular.
2.8 Bottle, as Michigan Summer Ale. Light hazy amber colour with a white head. malty, light caramel sweet aroma with hoppy floral notes. Fruity sweet flavor with a light citric note.
3.0 pours amber . bread, sweet, watery finish. had high hopes at the beginning of the first sip but was dissapointed by the end. could use some more hops.
2.6 Not much to say here. Average pale ale. Not sure about "distinctly American". Maybe if America is full over boring beer. Bottle from Jon.
3.9 12oz. bottle, pours hazy gold, aroma is light citrus and malt, not a significant hop presence, well balanced, light crisp refreshing, hop bitterness becomes evident on the finish, easy drinking pale, nicely done.
2.5 June 2008 Beer of the Month Club Overall Impression: Very average, decent Pale Ale
4.8 Not bad. Surely it is not on a par with Blatz. However I could definitely see myself getting loaded on this and driving my truck into a knotty white pine. Nice hoppy aroma and taste. Michigan is not just famous for the greatest NFL franchise apparently they make some pretty bitchin’ beers as well....long live Blatz!
3.3 Growler. Pours a warm amber golden color, with a small white head. Aroma is a lot of sweet malts, caramel, and a back drop of hops. Taste follows, a lot of malty sweet and caramel tastes up front and finished with a clean hoppy taste.
3.4 Bottle 0,355l as Michgan Summer Ale. Dark golden colored. A large fluffy head leaving patterns on the glass. Sweet hoppy & fruity aroma. Fruity flavor of citrus. Sweet but some fruity bitterness. Good! KI=6
3.0 Bottled. Medium amber in color upon pouring. Aroma is somewhat bready, with a little bit of hoppiness. Flavor is fairly bitter, but has a bit of a plastic flavor to it.
3.0 Bottle. Medium brown head. Small frothy head. Sweet hoppy aroma, quite heavy. Light flavour, some malt. Light bitter finish. (At home, 24.09.08)
3.4 Bottle from my friend Ian. Hazy light copper pour with a thin white head. Nice caramel malt aroma with a touch of earthy hops. Nice light crisp caramel malt body with a nice balance of earthy hop bitterness. Refreshing and tasty.
3.4 bottle - I had this one side by side with Otter Creek Pale Ale. This brew pours hazy copper with a one finger fading white head. It has a caramel malt aroma with a little citrus. The flavor has some good, crisp citrus hops along with the sweet caramel malt. The bitterness is fairly low but it’s very well balanced. It’s a nice beer and in my opinion it’s a little underrated here.
4.0 355 ml bottle. Mackinac Summer Ale 5%. From Sweden. Amber colour with an white head. Pretty malty and little hop aroma. Flavour is pretty much the same. Quite light and refreshing for an APA. Doesn’t matter, I like it a lot.
3.0 355ml bottle as Mackinac Summer Ale, 5% ABV, shared with Finn. Amber coloured body with a beige, bubbly head. Inviting smell of juicy malts. Sweet taste of dry fruits with apricot notes. Refreshing [Tromsø, 22.11.2008].
3.1 Biggish deep offwhite head. Hazy deep amber body. Deep caramelly malts aroma with faint resiny notes. Dry-sweet roasty wooden malty taste with resiny notes. Fullish body. Faintly astringent. Dry, faintly acidic, resiny tropical fruit aftertaste. Clearly a bit old. Should rerate. BBD hard to read, but probably 2008-09-27. Still nice, though. (0.355l bottle, Systembolaget, Charlottenberg.)
3.1 Bottle. Copper colour with an off-white head. Aroma i citrus, hop, malt. Flavour is citrus, hop, malt, fruit. OK easy drinkable beer.
2.9 bottle. has a sweet aroma of citrus and berries. pours a dark copper with a thin head. bit of a plain hoppy flavor with a bit of a bitter aftertaste.
3.2 As Mackinac Summer Ale. It’s a nice, red copper color and the head is golden and creamy. The aroma has notes of caramel, malt and fruity hops. The flavour has a light sweetness and a light, dry citrus and notes of malt, caramel and light fruit. It’s uncomplicated and pleasant to drink.
2.5 Aroma of hops, malt. Flavor has some mild hops, but it reminds me mostly of a classic.
