Middle Ages Druid Fluid

Middle Ages Druid Fluid

An epic barleywine, made in the tradition of British Farmhouse Brewing. Lavished with a velvety blend of six different malts this is a warming beer with a lush mouthfeel. The complexities your discriminating palate will detect are ever changing as this barleywine matures. When young, an assertive hop character predominates and with age the beauty of the big malt balance unfolds.

3.4 Deep copper pour with foamy white head and lace. Aroma of dried fruit and a hinto abv. Sweet rock candy like flavor an hinto warmth and a decent bitter. A bit odd. A bottle that I’ve had at least 3 years. Not really special to me.
3.5 From the Cortland Bottle Shop. The beer pours an amber color, white head. The flavor is fruit, bread, flowers, citrus. Strong hop presence. Flavor is the same, more citrus than flowers. Also, a slight flavor of soap. The finish is flowers, citrus, soap. Medium/thick in body. Good, but a bit odd. Hoppy for the style, and the weird soap thing.
3.7 Sample at the Blarney Wine tasting on 03/16/2013: Hazy deep copper color with a medium beige head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, caramel and grapeftuit. Medium to full body with flavors of bready malt, citrusy hops and a touch of vanilla. The finish is sweet with a citrus and malt aftertaste. Above average overall.
3.4 Not a bad barley wine, not great. Some toffee, caramel, raisins. Nice hop presence, however the corn sugar to malt ration is a little high I think BC it has a cidery bite and the malty mouth feel is lacking. Don’t care for this yeastat all
3.9 A very hoppy Barleywine that is balanced by equally bitter taste. Very good and would recommend this to any Barleywine drinkers.
3.4 Bomber poured a clear orange amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of carmel, orange zest, straw, light spice and light mint. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, orange zest, light earthiness and a hint of spice with a smooth dry finish.
2.9 Bottle shared by mista. Pours light brown with little aroma. Flavor was a typical barleywine. Not bad, had nice mouthfeel and was very drinkable. I didn’t recognize the assertive hops or big malt balance described on this one.
3.1 Bottle shared by Mista, Thanks Catan master hah, Pretty straightforward barleywine no real punch in the face heat, a nice balance between english and american style to me, it didnt have the sweetness of an english, unsure of age of this, perhaps about 1yr to 2yr.
3.4 Bottle shared by mista! Light brown pour, small ring of carbonation and lacing and an aroma of light spice. Flavor is light body, thin caramel malt and slightly sweet and peppery on the finish. Decent.
3.3 Pours a murky tan with a small whiteish head that lasts for a while. Aromas of spent grain, musk, sugary cereal. Some anal rape aromas in there as well. Taste is very malty but bitter, though not cloying. Anal leakage and brown stains push the envelope, but it still doesn’t meet the standards of the top level barleywines. A solid effort, but a little more prison sex would make it better.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a deep, chunky cheddar body, a frothy, off-white head, and a malty nose of rose, grapefruit, granola, and cheddar. Flavor is coppery prune and white grape with a distinct orange rind biscuit and grapefruit bread blend. Hops are prominent throughout, but the malt backbone never strays far from the party. Average mouthfeel. I think this beer would be better if it was fresher. Still, it’s not bad.
3.5 My wife brought this one back from a trip to Rochester. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy caramel-brown color with a medium sized creamy orange-white head that left decent lacing. The aroma was tangy sour caramel, a bit tart and had moderate notes of dark fruits and Pez. The flavor was sweet and tangy with a sour caramel note and elements of fig, raisin, molasses, pine, resin and bubblegum. There was a boozy presence throughout. The finish was long with sour caramel, molasses and pine lingering. Moderately full bodied. Decent but a bit of a disappointment for the style.
3.3 Bottle. Pours reddish amber with off white head. Nose/taste of candi sugar, earthy hops, malt, caramel and slight herbalness. Medium body.
3.6 22oz bottle in a snifter. Pours deep copper with a lacy, light beige head. Aroma of caramel malts with a little cereal and dough, plus a decent amount of hops. Flavor about the same, with the malts and bitter hops blending well. Smooth texture. A pretty good beer, but not the best for its style.
2.3 Bottle. Amber in color, very thin white head. Slight caramel taste and a very hoppy finish.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a hazy mahogany brown with a short beigh head. Aroma of toasted malts, caramel and pine. Flavor was caramel, citrus hops, brown sugar, pine and had a hint of toffee
3.6 Bottle. Pours a copper orange with a inch of cream colored head. Nice little carb bubbles in it. Very nice looking beer. Smells and tastes of light caramel, maybe a bit of vanilla, citrus, more grapefruit. Has a bit of a alcohol smell and hops a fair amount of hops. This was fresh beer not aged more then a few months. light sweetness, very bitter, lightly sour, medium body, oily feel, bitter long finish. I myself would like this beer to mellow out a bit maybe not as bitter. It was kind of a mess all over but still really nice, seemed to be a bit close to a darker ipa.
3.1 Bottle. Clear amber pour with a small white head. Hoppy nose. Citrusy hop notes and weak caramel malts. Poorly balanced..
3.4 Bomber that I had for a year. Hazy orange, light aroma. Not a huge hop ale, but not without bite either. Variety of fruits in the malt. Slight alcohol warmth, and some citrus hops. Nice enough BW, but not top drawer.
3.3 Smooth easy drinking malty barley wine. I had this beer with about 2 years on it, the hop profile had faded significantly, very approachable and easy to drink. This BW is definitely on the lighter side.
4.0 on cask at J Ryan in Syracuse NY. Med cascading foam off white tan long lasting. Uncarbonated hazy body. Very smooth initial malt flavor with a strong afterlux orbiting hops and medium alcohol. Subtly smooth tasty and strong. Mild hop aroma fine foam long lasting lace. Mild citrus nose. Very tasty with a strong subtle alcohol buzz that creeps up on you. Beware, this Droid bites.
3.9 22oz @Tampa Weekly Gathering-that I brought-pours a retaining tan head and amber color. Aroma is sweet medium malt-caramel, herbal. Taste is sweet medium malt-caramel, spice/herbal hops bite.
3.6 Bomber from Half Time. Pours amber with a small creamy/fizzy beige head. Aroma of warm toasted malt, with some brown sugar and possibly citrus hop. Flavor is lightly sweet caramel, with some development into brown sugar, and enough arguably citrus hop to hold down the sugar. It is lush in the mouth. Wish I knew the bottling date.
3.7 2009 bottle. Thanks to jcwattsrugger for the share. Pours amber with a tan head. Nose is malt, orange, caramel, citrus, slight toffee, and a hint of hops. Flavor is similar with malt, orange, caramel, and booze. Medium-bodied and pretty nice.
3.8 I can finally expunge this one from my “wants” list after it had been on there for years. Thanks John. This 2009 vintage pours clear copper with tan head. The aroma is modest in strength with malts, some floral hops, pine and some tree sap. The taste is pretty smooth with pine hop resin, some spicy hops and a bit of floral hops too. Toward midway spicy hops, earthiness and a touch of roast come forward to create a near black tea like sensation.
3.0 Draft at the Gate. Light brown color. Smells of syrup, booze and honey. Taste is similar. Very sweet and boozy. Not a lot going on here and not so drinkable. it’s just okay.
2.9 22oz Bottle, thanks Jeff. Nose stretches the gamut of classic barleywine, with age, celery seeds, acid, and English-style malt. Flavors come in about the same, with dusty, spicy old hops, heavier sweetness, a lingering floral yeast mess, and some tanginess. This really feels like a thinned-out, somewhat old English example. It just doesn’t grab me and seems rather muddy and random.
3.7 Cloudy reddish brown with small head. Aroma is mostly citrus hops and some brown sugary malt. Full bodied but not as much as might be expected, alcohol mostly but not all hidden. Flavor is more hoppy than anything else, grapefruit flavors and some background of malt and molasses. Pretty good, a little more drinkable than would have thought. Could have believed it a DIPA rather than a barleywine.
3.5 Used a snifter. Color is a hazy amber red. The head was large at first but died down to a bubbly thin layer that left lines of lacing. Nose is citrus/ orange and piny hops, pleasant aroma. Makes me think of snapping a pine branch. Taste is grapefruit hops, mild bitterness. Piny hops, resin. Aftertaste gives a puckering affect. If I would ever drink this again, it would HAVE to be an aged bottle. I wouldn’t drink a young bottle.
