Midnight Sun Meltdown Double IPA

The days are long but the season is short. So what gives? Sleep! After doing more before midnight than most Outsiders do in a week, Alaskans deserve some down time. And these moments of relaxation demand more than that ordinary, non-distinct lawn mower beer. Celebrate a day well done with a beer done well—a seriously delicious IPA with some scorchin’ hops.

Our new seasonal double IPA is designed to keep you incredibly hopped up spring through summer.

3.2 Cloudy tan, bright, oh my mandarin, calamansi, and that type with a dash of chewy malt, and the hops aren’t super fresh.
3.5 Bottle from Bottleworks, Seattle Cloudy orange color with almost no head; viscous pour. The aroma is mild, there is some malt, caramel, sugars, not much hops though, and some cow barn too. Smooth and round mouthfeel; malt flavor, quite sweet, with some caramel and toffee; strong bitterness; the hop is quite resiny but not much fruity. Good beer, not impressive, tastes old.
2.3 I can’t believe this only showed up in Juneau this week. Sigh, good job MS for selling out your home state. This is gonna go real well, I can tell. This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a hazy pale orange to brown color with a thin half fingered white foamy head. The head dissipated within thirty seconds and barely left any lacing. The aroma had a decent sweet caramel malt base lined with some super light citrus hops and that’s about all she called for. The taste was bitter and sweet at different times. There was a super dry citrusy aftertaste that lead to a really dry finish. On the palate, this was about a medium in body and it showed a semi-decent sessionability about it. Overall, uhhh...palate scorching, hmmm...no way, did I get an old bottle? Perhaps, I know this beer is normally released in March and I’m having it in June. Sigh, nice try MS, way to sell out your home state. This is your second strike as you made me have to trade for that over rated Berserker. Show your face and make amends cause I’ll most likely never buy this swill again.
3.6 On tap. Darker, amber gold. Average head. caramel, orange nose. Some pine. Taste has biscuit malts and citric hops. Grassy close. Warm on the palate.
3.8 On tap @ Blind Tiger. This is a blurry peachy golden colored one with a small light lacing just off-white top. Smells really nice, kinda bready with malts, lots of some hoppy stingy stuff, aspices with a little bit of grass. Not to bad at all. It has a oily mouthfeel and a just below average carbonation level. Nice hoppy malty and almost stingy bitter flavors. Lots of flavors here! Caramel and hop juice. Somewhat drymouthing in the finish. Peachy also with a really balanced bitter and malty finish. Really good and refreshing! 18.06.2013
3.2 Bottle, medium amber body, creamy white head. Aroma peach, pineapple, lychee. Taste is not as good as the aroma, caramel, light malt, spicy, and salty, with a bitter finish. A bit boozy, but not bad. Body is nice, not thin or syrupy, fine bubbles.
3.0 Bottle. Slightly cloudy orange with small creamy off white head, hops aroman hoppy taste, longish finish. Nice double IPA.
3.7 Golden in colour, the nose is fresh and intense hops. The beer starts a bit sweet, but very nice floral hopped. Pine, Citrus and floral hops next to the nice bitterness, that coincides great with the nice sweetness in the background. The aftertaste is long, bitter-intense, fruity-floral. Nice beer! --> 13/12/12/12
3.4 22 ounce bottle. Pours golden orange with a nice white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, and malt. Taste is grapefruit, tropical, pine, and caramel malt. Pretty sure bottle was not fresh.
3.1 Bottle sample. Clear golden color, nice off-white head. Fruity and spicy hop nose, somewhat soapy and sugary aroma. Full hop flavor, citrus peel, very bitter, slightly alcoholic and also heavy on the malt side. Long bitter finish, somewhat liqour-like, but overall OK.
3.8 22oz bottle pours a slightly hazy pale amber color with a good amount of head. Hoppy yeasty aromas. Very full hop flavor but noticeable alcohol.
3.4 Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer&Beyond store. Thanks Alex. Clear gold with white head. Hop-citrus, pink grapefruit aroma, crispy bitter taste - very bitter. Medium-bodied, dry, bitter finish. Nice.
2.8 Bottle at Armin’s, thanks man. Pour is clear orange with a frothy white head and good lacing. Grapefruity, orange, slightly oxidized, bready, caramelly, and grassy aroma. Taste very oxidized, cardboardy, old fruit, bitter grapefruit, caramel, and stale malt. Medium body with high carbonation. Way past it’s prime.
2.9 Bomber at Armin's place. Aroma is earth hops and cardboard. Taste cardboard, old hops. This is a bad sample.
3.1 Pour out of 22 oz bottle, clear orange pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, grapefruit, hints of orange, touch of earth, oxidized for sure. Taste is a mix of
4.1 Review number 350! 22 oz bomber poured into my ipa glass. Pours a light aber color with a thick fluffy off white head that leaves great lacing. Smell of Pine, citrus and caramel. Tastes of all the same things with the hops being the forefront of this beer but also carmely malt there. Mouthfeel is light and creamy with great carbonation. I’ now know why their beer is kind of spendy but its worth every penny to be honest. This beer is definetly for the hop heads. Also had a nice light summer feel for a dipa as well, very well crafted.
4.0 Drank from tulip glass poured from bomber from alaska. Aroma - caramel hoppy aroma. Appearance - beautiful golden orange coloe with medium head. Taste - dense piny, hoppy with caramal malt hints. Delicious! Palate - lot of pine and some alcohol. Very bitter aftertaste Overall - delicious IIPA. Very enjoyable.
3.7 Bottle shared with a friend who just came back from the brewery where he got this. No idea how old this is but considering they still had their Christmas DIPA for sale, I’m not holding my breath for freshness. Pours a light yellow to slight orange. Aroma is tangerine and some hay with a slight malty dank thing going on. taste is more malty at first but that quickly goes away. Not bad but nothing I need to seek out unless this is really old.
3.5 Bomber from brewery. Fresh pour with a nice white head. Nose is bright hops. Taste is fresh tangy hops with a nice piney taste. Nice.
3.7 Quite possibly the best smelling beer ever. It has a sweet aroma a tangerine and apricot. A somewhat cloudy gold appearance and a scorchin hop flavor.
3.7 if you like hops, you’ll like this one. Clear, light brass color with healthy white head. Big hop aroma, and a flavor of hop juice. Tastes like an 8% IIPA. Clean finish.
3.7 Light golden pour with a small head. Pine-orange citrus hoppy. Refreshingly thin, not heavy.
3.2 Pours a dark hazy orange rusty color with a small head. Typical cItrus and pine nose nothing overwhelming or outstanding. Taste again typical of a solid IIPA with citrus and pine with accompanying bitter sweetness. Finishes on the same notes. . Average run of the mill DIPA. quaff score 7 / 10
3.6 Pours a copper orange with an off white head and sweet aroma of pine and hops. Taste is bitter sweet, lots of bitter hops, pine, light citrus and caramel with a piney, bitter finish. Nice DIPA
3.8 Bottle from city beer. Pours orange with white head. Taste is a bitter citrus with lots of malts
4.0 The aroma is nice, caramel, chocolate, citrus. The appearance is slightly hazy amber, white head. The flavor is like the aroma, chocolate, caramel, citrus, pine. The finish is sweet, pine, citrus. Medium in body, slightly thick. Very nice. Very reminiscent of 90 minute.
3.7 Location/Date:Bottle split with Dave on June 1st, 2013. Appearance: Pours a clear copper. Aroma: Aroma of light pine. Taste: Light-medium bitterness, pine, caramel malt. Palate:Medium light body, slightly sticky. Summary: Pretty good DIPA, might have been a little old by the time it got to us but tasty nonethless.
4.4 Bottle from a California attorney. Slightly hazy yellow with a small white head. Very sweet tropical fruit aroma. Wonderful taste of fruit forward hops with little malt. Amazing.
4.0 Pours amber with a white head. Good hop aroma. Pine, grapefruit, some sweetness but mostly bitter.
3.8 Bottle. Bright and light, golden amber, with a piling, white poofy head. The aroma is floral, light and perfumed citrus. This drinks with a bit of a rough musk, metallic and sharp. Despite the less than friendly first impression, this becomes more easily drinkable as it goes and is actually very nice. (#5038, 5/26/2013)
