3.8 Bomber brought back from the Great White North by Mike, thanks! Pours a murky brown color with a medium white head. A big spicy nose with some brown malts and oak. The flavor is very mellow and clean with a punch of chocolate, cloves, oak, a bit of roast. Very good.
3.7 Bottle shared at HF harvest fest. Dark borwn almost black pour. Aroma is spicy, tons and tons of chocolate, pumpkin beer character is subdued, nice balance with the rich porter qualities - smells like a delicious dessert. Taste is slightly sweet, very chocolaty with a bit more barrel presence than in the aroma, light oak, spicy finish. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Quite tasty, too bad it’s so difficult to obtain.
4.2 bottle share at hill farmstead, starting to get drunk here, this one had awesome pumpkin flavors with some vanilla from barrels. Want to retry
3.9 Dark brown, tan head. Aroma of deep malt with some toffee, nutmeg evident, cloves light but present, pumpkin kind-of hovers over everything, chocolate there too. Flavor similar, oak aging evident, nice balanced pumpkin and spice character. Very interesting marriage of flavors.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty spicy chocolate aroma. Roasted malty weak oaky spicy chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty spicy chocolate finish.
3.5 22 fl oz bottle. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is spiced and roasted malty. Crisp. Yeasty and light spiced. Smooth and fruity yeasty to malty. Light spiced and lingering.
3.3 Bottle from SHIG. Thanks Shawn! Black coffee pour with small tan head. Nose is tart cherry skins, light roast, yoghurt, light spice and pumpkin but its pretty much faded at this point. Thinning palate, tart, light pumpkin spice but most likely a shadow of its former self. Burping produces a glimpse of what this once was. More like an old English style porter in its current state.
4.0 22oz bottle pours a watery, opaque black with some soft, beige head. Big nose, cloves, oranges, nutmeg, cinnamon, some vanilla, carrots. Flavor is sweet, spices, candied yams, marshmellow, cloves, ginger, chewy malt. Super smooth finish, very well balanced.
3.8 Bomber courtesy of GT2. Thanks! Pours a dark brown color with a thin head. Decent head retention. Aroma of big spice notes, roasted malts, pumpkin and wood. The taste is pumpkin, pumpkin spice, nuts and vanilla. Medium bodied.
3.0 Bottle courtesy of GT2. Thanks! Pours a very dark brown with a tan head. The nose carries some strong pumpkin spice along with light oak character. A bit of tannin into the flavor along with bitter herbs and spice. Roast and chocolate in the background. Medium body with a dry herbal finish. Not a huge fan of this one; I prefer regular T.R.E.A.T.
2.8 large spotty cream head atop red-sienna. Light pumpkin spice, oat nose. Flavor is more cocoa, pumpkin mid, light bubblegum and sugar finish. Bit sweet and thin but gritty.
3.5 Sweet vegetal and chocolate nose. Taste is pumpkin pie, chocolate and molasses, light bourbon. Rather thin body.
4.1 Thanks GT. Pumpkin pie, brown sugar, and graham cracker. Literally the beer version of a delicious pumpkin pie. Thick rich mouthfeel with great carbnation.
4.1 651mL thanks to savnac. Pours clear deep brune with small beige foam. Nose is rich pumpkin pie with some beautiful funky barrel notes. Some lacto, white wine, small Brett. Rich as hell aroma with complex floral and tropical character. Taste is rich curry, spiced pumpkin pie. Thicker. Great stuff. Obvious #1 for style.
3.5 22oz bottle, thanks GT2. Small tan head atop cola-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, pumpkin/allspice, bittersweet chocolate, some ginger, light roast, faint wood. Taste is moderately sweet, pumpkin/allspice, some milk chocolate. Medium-full body, some stickiness.
4.1 Bottle: Poured a thick chocolate brown, with a thin tan head. Aroma is chocolate, spice, pumpkin, and nutmeg. Taste is the real treat here as the pumpkin and spice has mild from the orginal, however it mixes very well with the chocolate and woodsy oak effect. Top notch porter and pumpkin beer.
3.2 Bottle provides by my man savnac. Thanks Ira! Pours a brownish/black, minimal cocoa head on the pour. Nose is overpowering cinnamon and nutmeg. Mild chocolate and pumpkin as well. Flavor is identical to TREAT, chocolate pumpkin pie without much oak to show. Moderate carbonation, short finish, and dull mouthfeel. Pretty disappointing, didn’t really do anything to differentiate itself from regular TREAT. Probably wouldn’t trade for this again in the future.
3.8 29th August 2009 Opaque black beer. Light neutral palate. Soft chocolatey malt. Beautifully balanced with fruity pumpkin that isn’t too heavily spiced. Overall impression is of a soft sweetish beer with mild chocolate covered pumpkin. Finishes mild chocolate and a little minerals. Not a shouty beer but seduces with it’s quality.
4.1 Bomber picked up at the brewery early April. Shared at DLD with a few beer lovers. This poured dark, thin and had an aroma of cinnomon, chocolate, spices, nutmeg, wood and malts. Taste is wild, lots of complex flavors like the. Ones mentioned earlier. Finishes long. Great brew.
4.3 2012 bottle, big thanks Eric. Pours deep, deep brown with a thick creamy tan head. Nose is fall spices, pumpkin pie meat, thick and chewy as with the regular version, but more earthy and darker. Mouth is very earthy, pleasant autumn spices and roasted pumpkins, bourbon barrel really imparts some dry, earthy character to this. A weird note in there that’s maybe iodine, but it’s so earthy it just plays right in. Really nice.
4.4 Thank you Bottle Trek for the opportunity. The pour is pitch black with about an inch of tannish foam. The smell, well, is amazing! Fresh pumpkin pie that *just* came out of the oven, and with all the fixins. Nutmeg, chocolate, wow! I take my first sip and the aromas I mentioned are there but slightly less impressive. Slightly. Big nutmeg, pumpkin, light cloves, chocolate, all VERY tasty but the smell, for sure, was an awfully hard act to follow.(see my score for smell) To be fair, the 1st week of October was notched.... On the high end of medium bodied with a lightish amount of carbonation, the mouthfeel is fine as is the drinkability. This is a great beer; my only regret is that I didn’t have a chance to taste it back in October or even November.
4.3 this was bottle courtasy of oakedcanuck!!! this is by far the best pumpkin beer i haveever had chocolaty spicy goodness
4.4 2009 Edition. 22 oz. bottle that I received in a trade with GAManiac back in 2009. I’ve been holding on to this bottle for over 2 1/2 years because I was waiting for a special time to open it. This year, I felt I had so much to be thankful for, I thought it was appropriate to open it on Thanksgiving and share it with my family, which I did. Pours black with a thin-moderate light brown head that was completely gone before the second sip and left no lace. The aroma is wonderful with ample chocolate and pumpkin, oak, vanilla and caramel. The flavor is very similar with chocolate, pumpkin, oak, vanilla, and caramel. I especially like how the oak takes a back seat and does overwhelm this beer, but instead perfectly compliments it. Mild bitterness at the finish. Fairly smooth on the palate. A thoroughly enjoyable beer.
4.3 750ml bottle poured into glass. 08’ vintage. I was sort of skeptical in thinking that this would hold up over time but it most certainly did. Great chocolate and pumpkin flavor in the aroma and taste. The balance between the chocolate and the pumpkin is just incredible. Great oaky flavors as well.
4.2 This great desert ale was in a 22oz bottle. Poured dark and clear with a small tannish head. Definitely strong pumpkin notes with cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla all present. Another unique Midnight Sun offering from America’s top northern brewer.
3.8 2008 bottle at Ang’s birthday tasting (thanks to Justin’s brother). It pours opaque black, with a decent light tan head. The nose is sweet pumpkin, caramel, cinnamon, ginger bread, smoke and salt. The taste is creamy, light pumpkin, lactose, roast malt, milk chocolate, caramel, gingerbread, cinnamon, nutmeg and charcoal, with alcohol warmth and spice in the finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Well balanced and tasty.
3.9 Bottle (2008 vintage) shared at Craft Beer Co., London. Pours brown with a huge, immense tan head. Slight sour malts in the nose, spices, certainly some pumpkin. Medium sweet flavor, pumpkin notes, some spice and a pleasant roasted malt character. Medium bodied with heavy and lively carbonation. Some more pumpkin and spice to finish. Pretty nice overall.
4.0 A Mes rate. Bottle at Ang’s birthday tasting at the craft. Black as night with an almost uncontrolable frothy tan head. Chunky chocolate nose with plenty of pumpkin and considering I hate pumpkin, it’s not bothering me in the slightest. Superb flavour that echoes the aroma almost exactly but with some extra spicy notes. Glorious coca cola like finish. Amazed I can like a pumpkin beer so much. Really well balanced, which is unusual for an American beer. Lengthy bitter aftertaste. Excellent beer. Grant, once again, you fucking rock.
3.7 Bottle on Angs birthday. Massive thanks to Grant Curlow for this. Black as hell big cream beige head. Choccy spicy aroma. Very amazing choc spiciness. It has this rather amazing smooth finish of otherness. Not overly spicy. Good balance. Tasty
3.6 A: The pour is dark brown in color with a rather tall off-white head. S: Still a strong spiciness to. Lots of nutmeg and all-spice with a little bit of cinnamon. Not too much pumpkin flavor, but a nice roastiness, bit of dark chocolate, and a moderate sweetness to the beer. T: The spices really stand out on the tongue, too. All-spice is the most prominent with some nutmeg in there, too. Mild roast, hints of vanilla, and a little bit of chocolate. Again, not too much pumpkin. M: Medium in body with a medium level of carbonation. O: This was a bit better than the regular TREAT/Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter, but not amazing.
