Mike Hess Habitus Rye IPA

Mike Hess Habitus Rye IPA

A very drinkable, high gravity, crisp and spicy rye IPA, hopped generously throughout the brew process and then dry-hopped with over a pound per barrel of Sterling and Chinook hops. Earthy and spicy notes from both the hops and the rye malt, complimented by the floral and piney aromatics.

3.6 Aroma is hoppy and citrusy with an earthy touch and some toffee as well. Taste is sweet, with a ripe orange sweetness and a grapefruity hoppy sensation. Steady body with a marmalade sweetness. Herbal spicy in the end with light pine and orange peels. Well balanced bitterness. Solid Rye DIPA!
3.3 Burk Bishops Örebro. Orangeaktig vätska. Doft av barr, liniment och citrus. I smak känns grape, örter, kåda och tallskott. Rejäl och djup beska

4.1 Burk hemma i Muris!!
3.4 Tap@Brewdog Malmo - Orange pour with white head. Sweet fruity and sweet malty with some notes of caramel, some grapefruit, tangerine, hoppy medium bitter close.
3.3 Drank straight from one of the fancy cans you can take the whole top off, so no view, but cool idea. Aroma oxidized caramel malts and piney hops. Taste follows, a tad old and oxidized, but I can see it was ok at one time. Meh.
3.3 On draft at Valley View Casino Central. Cloudy orange with big white head. Tropical aroma and taste!
2.6 Sampled at GABF 2017 with Paul and Larry. Pours a clear golden amber body with thin white lace. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with notes of strong malt, dry wood and cutting alcohol.
3.5 Can from Liquor Market in Venice Beach on 15 October 2017. Enjoyed this beer while sitting on Venice Beach on a warm afternoon. Big and hoppy and quite chewy as well. Takes a bit to get through and leaves a resinous coating in the mouth.
3.7 Can. Spicy rye aroma with notes of pine resin and grapefruit citrus hops. Pours clear amber colored with a large tan head that has excellent retention and some lacing. Starts with grapefruit citrus hop flavors with a bit of pine resin. Finishes very dry with spicy rye and bitter pine resiny hop bitterness that lingers on the palate. Pretty good, but quite bitter at the end.
3.3 Canned. Thx Jookos. Poured deep golden color with a thin white head. Sweet malty, hoppy, earthy aroma. Malty sweet, earthy, old hops. Quite ok, but shows some age.
3.3 Can. Cleary orange. Stone fruity malty, semi freshing feeling. Med full bodied, good bitters, pineyfinish. Clean, it stale old feeling. Decent still. -- bb/a
3.5 From tap. Pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is solid hoppy. Pine and grapefruity. Pine, dry and grapefruity. Bitter and slight herbal. Bitter and bone dry finish.
3.9 Keg halfpint at BrewDog Bar Castlegate, Aberdeen. Deep golden colour, white head. Hoppy / piney / fruity aroma. Smooth mouthfeel. Distinctly hoppy flavour, piney / resinous and grapefruity, with enough malts for balance. Bitter aftertaste. Good beer.
3.4 12 oz can. Pours hazy golden orange with a medium fluffy off white head that retains well and laces the glass. The aroma is sweet caramel malt and fruit with floral rye hops. The flavor is sweet caramel malt with fruit and rye and a piney hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and a bit watery. Overall, a decent DIPA.
4.0 Can from Brewdog mail order. Big dry biscuit and rye bread aroma, some hoppiness. Pours deep clear amber/gold, thin white head. Huge dry bitter taste with some caramel in the back. But mainly bone dry bitterness. Great stuff.
3.4 Amber color with a fine tan head. Good intensity in the aroma. Medium + body and a fine carbonation level. Tad sweet and good bitterness to back it up. Complex flavor. Rye, dried fruits, bready, grapefruit hoppy and some pine in the flavor. A bit to bready and to much dried fruits to get a top score. [Can from BottleShop: Bermondsey in London, England] Brewery 1754
4.0 Fresh and hoppy, crisp, malty notes.
4.4 Clean filtered amber/orange color with a creamy white head of foam. Spicy, oaty grain notes prevail through the caramel grain. Pine needle, herbal, and moderate smooth citrus hops parlor amidst the complex grain base.
3.8 Sampled from the tap at the North Park location. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has a combination of citrus and rye with some earthy pine underlying. Flavor has a good amount of citrus and rye with a growing bitterness through the finish.
3.1 Can 473ml (with open top, Beer Republic, date messed _/10/2017) Dark amber color, small steady off-white head and lace. Ryeish aroma has odd ice-cream feeling in the nose. Medium-bodied. Resiny, piney, some citrus, rye is noticeable. Dryish finish. Could be freshier. Tolerable.
3.8 Can procured from the Vanbrugh, Greenwich. Drank at home. Hazy amber pour with a white head. Cinnamon, orange zest, apricot, warm bread and pineapple aroma. Flavours of vanilla, peach, fresh cream, tangerine, apricot. Long bitter finish. Nice.
3.3 16 oz can. Canned 01/10/17. Thanks Time-O-A! Clear golden color with a small white head. Dryish hops, mild bitterness and malt in the aroma. The flavor is dry hops, mild bitterness, malt and some age. Wish this was fresh.
2.8 Can. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark yellow to light amber. Aroma is lightly malty (grain, caramel), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, apricot, resin), lightly to moderately yeasty (dough, sweat), with light notes of orange candy, corn syrup, butter, plastic, onion. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Medium to full body, syrupy/watery texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Clunky, rather dirty aroma...the hops are nice enough, but the icky raw yeast and off notes make it hard to enjoy. Ok in the mouth if kinda syrupy sweet. Caramelly-candyish-syrupy in general.
4.1 Can.(Open Top ) Orange appearance.Fruity and hoppy with some citrus in background.Medium body but quite powerful. An excellent drink and my first from this brewery.
4.1 16 oz can from Cal Heights Mkt. Hazy copper color. Persistent white head. Light palate. Bright and piney. Really nice DIPA.
3.4 On tap at The Crafty Fox poured a clear orange amber with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of caramel, rye, earthiness, orange zest and light grapefruit. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of rye, caramel, earthiness, light grapefruit and light orange zest with a smooth dry lingering bitter finish.
3.5 16 oz. can. Pours a medium large, well retained, ivory head, with moderate lacing, over a hazy medium amber (SRM 9) body........nose is pine, resin, grass, dust, rye spice, mild malts, balance to the hops......taste is mildly sweet with light toffee/caramel tones, light malts, moderate rye spice, pine resin, light citrus tones from the hops, finishing with a lingering moderate to heavy hop bitterness, balance to the hops and rye.......mouth feel, lightly sticky medium body, mild alcohol heat, medium carbonation, slight astringency. This is a pleasant I/DIPA with appropriate hop domination, and the added complexity of the rye malt. BJCP 8/3/15/4/7
3.8 Draft at Falling Rock..guess these guys are coming to Denver? Deep orange copper color, with thick slow fading pillowy head. Nose is piney and citrus hops. Taste is dry and bitter overall but pretty chewy/malty and a bit of heat. Taste is caramel malts, rye spice, pine and orange citrus hops.
