3.650 cl bottle @ home. Pours black with some sediment and pretty much no head. Aroma and flavour are roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and a little peat - with a slightly bitter finish.
4.0Vintage 2009 shared by my uncle. Pours pitch Black with a Tiny Brown head. Aroma is amazing. Hard roasted malts, roasted coffee, Dark dried fruits, Dark raw chocolate notes, tar, Woody notes and sweet liquorice. Taste is rather dry and have alot Of Wood . Not in a bad Way. Also alot Of the stuer from the aroma - especially the liquorice is dominating. Also the coffee and some Dark dried fruits very clear. Rather savory as well.
3.6Thanks for sharing, Vincent! 50cL bottle @ RBBSG II. Pours a very dark brown with virtually no head. The smell is peat, roasted malt, dark fruit and licorice. The taste is coffee, roasted malt, peat and dry on the ending. Medium/full body with mild carbonation.
3.5Black colour, tan head. Aroma of red berries, light metallic, coffee, cacao powder, caramel and light orange peel. Sweet flavour, roasted malts, bitter, coffee, burnt caramel. Finish coffee, mocha, bitter roasted malts.
(From 50cL bottle @ RBBSG II, Gent 2013. Thanks for sharing, Vincent - the man who brought only great beer despite his claim of not having anything in his cellar)
3.510/VIII/13 - 50cl bottle @ RBBSG II, my place - brewed: 17/III/9 - BB: 9/III/13 - batch: 412 (2013-741) Thanks to BelgBeerGeek for sharing the bottle!
Clear dark brown beer, no head. aroma: some chloride, mocha, alcohol, bit metallic, caramel, sugary, fruity touch. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: bitter tart, hoppy, mocha and coffee, burnt toast, some citrus, bit of caramel. Aftertaste: little bitter, hoppy, toast, mocha, coffee, little sourish.
3.2Sampled from bottle @ RBBSG II. Opaque pitch black color, small light brown head. Aroma is way less present than the islay brunch weasel we just tried. Much smoother. Taste is the same. Flavors are much more subtle and smooth. Soft carbonation, medium body.
3.8Bottle. Opaque black liquid with small to medium tan head. Aroma of whisky, dried fruit, chocolate, oak, bread and biscuits. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of chocolate and whisky. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Still quite good but it seems like it’s aged to become dull.
3.9Bottle at home. Batch 412. Brewed 170309. Pours and opaque black with no head, slimy gunk on the bottom. Sweet and dry. Aromas of roast coffe, dark chocolate and some dried fruits. Also some aromas of cask wood and fresh coffee beans. Medium to full bodied. No carbonation.
3.6Bottle shared with (and great courtesy of) the Bergen tasting crew. Pours a deep nut brown colour, and with no head. Has a compact aroma of liquor, coffee, dark chocolate and alcohol. The flavour has more roasted malt and ash, alcohol and oak. The mouth feel is slick and oily, and has a light to medium bitterness. A compact ale with a decent roasted touch, and is pretty actually easy-drinking.
3.2May 2011, 0,5l bottle sampled @ first ever BBGTC tasting:
Fyldig sødmerik lukt med preg av mørk malt, humle, mørk sjokolade, vanilje, mørk frukt, kaffi, litt torv og lær. Fyldig lett sødmerik smak med preg av mørk malt, humle, syrlig kaffi, mørk sjokolade, brent tre, mørk frukt, litt lær og torv. Middels bitterhet som set litt. Grei.
3.7Nearly 3 years of age. Still before BB though.
Pours pitch black with almost no head. Some large chunks of sediment!
Nose shows complex roast, coffee liqueur, cocoa, fresh cground coffee, oatmeal, woody oak and soft whisky.
The flavours are not quite as impressive. Roast malt, old coffee, a bit of booze and some whisky.
Pretty much flat. Needs carbonation.
3.9Bottle. 7.5%. Best before 13.03.13. Pours pitch black with a small, diminishing khaki head. Aroma is sweetish with a tart touch. Roasted with light notes of chocolate and a whisky overtone. Well-balanced. Roasted flavour with a whisky overtone. Finish is roasted with a long bitter coffee note lingering, a touch of whisky and a light alcohol burn. Soft palate, velvety. Overall quite good and well-balanced. 02.02.13.
3.850 cl bottle, brewed March 2009. Dark brown with a few tan specks. Nose is scotch, dark chocolate, coffee and molasses. Chalky, almost full body with a tang but a bit flat. Taste is coffee bean, bittersweet chocolate, burnt sugar, whiskey and faint smoke. Slight vinous notes creeping in. Fading.
3.5Bottle courtesy of Travlr - thanks a lot! The aroma in this beer is ridiculous - vanilla and whiskey comes through strong. The taste doesn’t match the aroma... too bad...
4.4500 ml bottle @ Beer Hunters. Pours opaque black colour with minimal beige head. Aroma just blowed my mind away with perfect roasty malt, black coffee, chocolate, a hint of smoke and oak. Delicisious taste of milk chocolate, strong espresso coffee and a hint of whisky. Full bodied, smooth mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Long espresso finish. Barrel aging gave nice roundness to the aroma and flavour but didn´t dominate them. This is mothers milk.
2.6Pours black with no head. Light smoke, roast, a touch of peat, and some whiskey. Fairly heavy on the roast, a touch of cocoa powder, and a bit of alcohol and green apple. The flavor is somewhat heavy on the cocoa. Light whiskey flavor, some oak, and a lot of roasted malt. Some green apple and alcohol and light toffee sweetness. Kind of watery and flat.
3.7A-- Poured black, pretty syrupy and thick looking. Menacing is probably a better word. Very little head. Mostly a dark leather brown film head that had a few gurgles in it. On swirling the head did get a touch bigger and the head a touch darker but quickly went by by. A few dots of lacing on the sides of the glass and a bit of a dark cola film to this.
S-- Smells much bigger, and much badder than 7.5 %. Lots of peat, burnt molasses, overdrawn espresso, dark 90% chocolate, rolled toasted oats. A lot of aromas to this and they are thick and big.
T-- Main thing in the taste is the peat. Can tell this has been in a barrel for a while. Molasses, chocolate, and coffee. What is surprising is for how big the smell is, that the taste is more of a stout or porter than an Imperial Stout. Much easier to manage.
M-- Quite thin but also quite flavorful. Get some dark fruits and coffee acidity. The peat does slightly drop off and become more easy to deal with and get the classic stout flavors, yet the peat is there in the end. Low carbonation and medium feel to this. Finishes with a peaty overdrawn coffee acidity to this.
O-- Has some high points but also some low points. The nose is great as well as the feel. Not the most attractive looking thing at all. Expected this to be bigger than 7.5% but it is more like closer to a 6% beer. To me the barrel adds another dimension to this as you get all sorts of flavors but not the absurd ABV levels of other beers. A sipper due to the amount of peat in this making this hard to work through. Solid but not outstanding.
3.6Bottle @ Mikkeller Bar Copenhagen next to Beer Geek Brunch Weasel Islay Edition. Black appearance with a thin brown head. Quite roasty, woody, mild peaty, chocolate, light vanilla aroma. Not nearly as much coffee in the flavor as the Brunch Weasel Islay edition that I tried next to this. Fairly roasty, a touch thin, somewhat smoky, vanilla, mild oaky flavor. Pretty tasty but I’ve enjoyed the other Beer Geek barrel releases better.
3.7@Basunen. Mycket trevlig doft av brända toner, lite vinös och trevlig kaffe. Smaken är lite tunnare men dock trevlig. Men originalet är så mycket bättre. Känns lite vattnig.
4.3Medium strong aroma is invitig: sweet medical herbs, salty licorice, french roast coffe, dark chocolate. Whisky in the background. Eben black, clear. Expressohead goes fast. Taste is more roasted and dry than aroma. Some dark fruits here also. Surprisingly light, creamy with soft carbonation. Dry and bit bitter. Long finish. Overall quite tastefull and complex. One to enjoy in peace.
4.0(Bottle, purchased at Ölbutikken, Copenhagen, June 2010) Black colour with small, foamy, pale brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of black coffee, cocoa, vanilla, honey, hints of oak wood and a touch of whisky. Roasted, malty taste with strong black coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice, vanilla, honey, brown sugar, roasted oats and gentle notes of Speyside whisky. More than medium body, with some sweetness. Generous coffee bitterness in the finish, but still in excellent balance. I still like the "ordinary" version better, but this is a lovely beer.

3.6Bottle shared at 3 Sma Rum, Goteberg. Pours black with a tiny beige head. Aroma has mellow whiskey, coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and light peat. Flavour is a little different with some hops and a bit of sourness. Body is medium to full and carbonation is low.
3.7Bottle says brewn 17/03/2009
Head: almost none
Colour: black
Smell: roasty, chocolat, coffee, bit of smokeyness, slight sweetness
Taste: start is bitter and coffee, then slight sweetness and roasted flavours come in, slight boozey flavour and oily end, aftertaste is very rich, awesome but the bourbon version is better !
4.1Pours dark and black, small brown head indicates lower carbonation, but so does the label on the bottle. Nose is mild smoke, big wood, vanilla, bacon grease and grass. Taste is sweet and bitter but then sour and a hint of metal. I tasted this same metal in the regular version and I think it comes from the large amount of coffee. Mouthfeel is amazing. Smooth, silky, creamy. Full heavy body with a long rich aftertaste. Great.
4.0Bottle @ City Pub Gothenburg: Brown colour, with a creamy head. Aroma is dominated of brown sugar, fruits and caramelly. Flavor had a nice creamy mouth feeling, fruity, caramelly and coffee. Medium body, and a nice long fruity finish.
3.8500ml bottle, batch 412, deep black color, with a simple ring of bubbly tan head, light whiskey, chocoalte, molasses, burnt wooden barrel, dark chocolate, black coffee nose, with some chocolate wafer, chocolate granola bar, mochaish, vanilla accents, and a mild roasted, chocolate, toasted malt, burnt toast notes in the aroma follows through on a full-bodied palate with a smooth chocolate cake, chocolate baking bar, moachaish, black coffee character, with some velvety, oat, caramel, chocolate, roasted, toasted malt, molasses, burnt fruitcake, burnt toast flavors, and with a mild grounded, roasty coffee bean, chocolate pudding undertone, leading towards a chocolatey, molasses, coffeeish, lingering roasty bitterness finish.
3.3Bottle @ tasting. Aroma is liquorice, roast and laods of whiskey.
Flavour starts with a thinner than expected palate, some roast and malt with huge whiskey. Beer is too thin to carry the whiskey imho.
3.4(Bottle) Pours black with almost no head. The aroma holds roasted coffee up front with tones of green bell pepper, parsley and gravel. Subtle whisky/oak notes of vanilla and fudge. Green resinous hops. Bit citric. A light alcohol sting is present. The flavour is light sweet, light to medium bitter and light acidic. Tones of coffee, dark chocolate, tannin-driven oak and hops. The mouthfeel is quite astringent with low carbonation. Some buttery oak on the finish. Medium bodied. The whisky notes is subtle and well integrated but the beer is too heavy on the tannins.
