4.6 Poured into Glencairn glass from bottle. This is an almost perfect beer. Strong thick flavors and aroma. Coffee, sweet, oak, bourbon, sweet, thick heavy mouthful. Wish it had slightly more lingering head retention but otherwise, a perfect stout.
3.5 Draught at Mikkeller Tokyo. Starts off nicely but notes of peat, tobacco and soy sauce slowly get a bit overwhelming, not so impressive in the end. A taster was more than enough, another overrated brew...
4.2 Tasting at Maakun’s, bottle shared by me, bottle from Biernavigatie. Superzacht koffie bourbon bakkie, zachte natte chocoladecake en heel veel goede espresso en vanille. Backlog from 2015/10/09.
4.3 Botella 33 cl tomada en el momento en Oviedo 24..12..2015. (r243).
4.5 Chocolate, coffee, oak, vanilla, maple syrup, and on top of all that a generous amount of bourbon goodness.
4.8 Aroma: oak, bourbon, mocha, mounds of malt App: heart of dark brown, super dark black with a dark brown head, sheet lacing Flavour: smoke, carbon, rich bourbon, massive malt, mocha, spirit, vanilla. Palate: thick and mouse like with an amazingly long bourbon, mocha, balanced bitter hop finish. Perfect
4.0 330ml bottle. Pours black with a thin tan head. Good bourbon aroma alongside some chocolate. Taste is thick and unctuous. Quite a prominent bourbon influence married brilliantly with the coffee and roasted elements. A bit sticky, but a lovely drop.
4.5 Ouf! Ça c’est du sérieux! Aucune mousse, très peu carbonisé, mais arômes et goûts très puissants: café, chocolat, vanille, bourbon. Le tout très bien balancé avec un fort taux d’alcool et le corp. Wow
4.4 Bottle. Thick black liquid, creamy mocha head, Aroma: bourbon, licorice, cocoa, coffee beans. Taste: toffee, licorice, bourbon, cocoa beans, milk chocolate, coffee, pralines. Sticky mouthfeel. Pretty awesome!
4.4 (2014 330ml bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen) Pours black with a tiny ring of tan bubbles and no lace. Aroma is quite strong but wonderfully rounded bourbon with no heat, creamy coconut and vanilla notes, dark malts, cassonade sugar, bittersweet chocolate, soft roast, a bit of coffee that’s restrained compared to the regular version but has pungency. Flavour is lovely as well, beginning with a sweet dark malt/toffee core, a bit of dark chocolate, creamy rounded bourbon vanilla and coconut, and sweet black coffee. Moderate roast and more spirit/oak character builds in the middle, roast coffee beans and earth, towards a moderately bitter and semi-dry finish of lightly charred roast, slightly pungent coffee, vanilla and some good bourbon. Dry and dusty roast in the aftertaste. No alcohol heat. Medium-full creamy body with very soft carb. Lovely, such a nice nuanced but still intense extraction of bourbon flavours, expected great stout base and the coffee holds its own. Not nearly as sweet and cloying as some in the style. Met my very high expectations!
4.6 Aroma is that weasel imp stout, but with a bit of bourbon notes. Black beer no head. Light sweetness, medium salty, licorice, light bitterness. Palate is full body, thick feel, long finish. Finish has bitterness, coffee, a bit of bourbon.
3.9 330 ml botte from BierKompass, before it closed. Pours a pitch black body with a thin brown head. Aromas of chocolate, bourbon, licorice, vanilla. Taste is sweet in the mouth with chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, oak, caramel, finishing bitter with coffee and roasted notes. Full body with low carbonation.
4.0 Bottle shared by Sjogro. Black with small brown head. Lots of bourbon up front with vanilla, brown sugar and wood. Then the coffee kicks in with bitter espresso, medium string roast and a touch of spicy honey. Some molasses, dark chocolate, rum and fudge too. Quite sweet with soft roasted bitter notes and lasting bittersweet finish with slight alcohol. Full bodied with velvety feel and low carbo. Nice.
4.2 330 ml bottle poured into a Bruery tulip. Black with no more than half a finger of tan head. 10.9% version with the orange Keith Shore label. Aromas of dark chocolate, fudge, strong roasted coffee, almost a little hot peppery note, slightly boozy bourbon. Tastes of dark chocolate, coffee, some bourbon and oak. Pretty good, better than some of their other barrel aged Beer Geek offerings but the barrel aging could still use a little work for more character.
4.8 Longtime want. Bottle bought at Bierhalle Deconinck. So creamy, such a thick mouthfeel, coffee, roast, vanilla and bourbon. Almost the perfect beer for me. Light bitterness. Truly awesome.
4.0 330 ml. bottle. Thanks Erik! Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of malt, bourbon, chocolate, and coffee. Taste is roasted malt, bourbon, dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and dark fruit. Delicious.
3.9 Shared bottle at Mi2 at Cardinal 31.08.15. Black. Small and quickly diminishing brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, vanilla, coffe ans some dark malt. Similar taste; witf some liquorice. Complex. And very good.
3.8 Shared bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours black with small beige head. Aroma of Bourbon whisky, vanilla, coconut, milk coffee, dark dried fruits, roasted malt. Taste sweet, some roasted and fruity coffee bitterness. Silky mouth feel.
4.5 Oh boy. What a loveley beer. So smooth and so creamy. Great on the nose with whiskey, chees, chocolate and coffee. It?s taste is so complex, so balanced. The flavours alternate beautifully in your mouth. From Whiskey, to Stout and so on. Mocca, iced coffee, chocolate icecream. Yes! Low carbonation, but great!
3.5 Bottle shared with Guillaume from Saveur-Biere.com - Color: deep dark black beer with no carbonation and small brown head. Smell: roasted malt, caramel, coffee, barrel aged. Whiskey finish. Very strong aroma. Taste: not so strong palate. Not so sweet. Caramel notes, and roasted malt. Strong coffee attack and alcohol with barrel aged notes. Notes of bourbon. Sweet finish. Aftertaste: Whiskey taste. Roasted and coffee malt. Caramel and sweet alcohol.
4.1 50cl bottle, 2009 12.7%. Pours black with a nice brown head. Aroma is oustanding with bourbon, sweet fruit, dark dried fruits, coffee, chocolate, wood, vanilla and liquorice. Flavour is sweet and light bitter. Full bodied, oily, soft texture - almost flat. Finish is sweet, warming alcohol and surprisingly complex. Considering the age this is a nice surprise!
3.8 Bottle. Opaque deep brown color, tan head. Sweet, oaky arom with some vanilla. Rich, full flavor with whisky notes and cocoa. Very full body, low carbonation. It feels like I’m drinking a Starbucks chocolate coffee or thick cocoa. Both taste good though, so I’m not complaining!
3.5 Dark inky black pour with one finger of tan head. Intense aroma with charred wood, acidic dark grain and coffee, molasses, and booze. Acidic dark grain and char to a fault. Slick and bitter/acidic notes dominate the flavor. Hot and woody.
4.2 330 ml bottle from Saveur Bière. Black, oily body, with a small, creamy, coffee colored head. Aroma of bourbon, coconut, vanilla, coffee, cocoa, wood, liquorice, some tobacco, some alcohol. Wonderful, balanced, quite dry taste of bourbon, coffee, cocoa, coconut, liquorice, tobacco, booze. Full, oily mouthfeel, with a soft carbonation. Finishes roasty, dry, quite alcoholic, a bit astringent, with coffee, dry cocoa, liquorice, some tobacco. Very tasty. The bourbon isn’t too dominant, very well integrated. Quite strong and dry, with wonderful coffee and tobacco notes, but really smooth at the same time. Although I like the regular Brunch Weasel better, this is also delicious.
4.3 Black black black with a tiny brown ring. Bourbon, vanilla, roasted notes, coffee, ripe dark fruit, hint of alcohol. Sweet brew, little bitterness. Full body, slick with a very soft carbonation. Long dry and very pleasant finish.
4.8 Updated, less strong version of Beer Geek Brunch Weasel (Bourbon edition) with different label, ABV of 10.9%, so I wonder if this version should not deserve its own entry. Extremely dark burgundy colour, not to say pitch black, with a thin but densely structured, moussy, deep beige head retaining well around the edges. The aroma is divine and litterally makes my mouth water in seconds: a ton of mocha ice cream, sweet and perfumey vanilla, rich warm chocolate sauce, sweetish bourbon, cold espresso, bayleaf, hint of candied cherries, wet leather, dried plums, cinnamon, baker’s chocolate, banana liqueur, cloves, cream, noble oak, soy sauce, exotic pepper, expensive Cuban cigars, veal stock. Flabbergastering flavour: there are some candied fruits in the onset, brown candi syrup even, but countered by an immediate, yet ’friendly’ drought, sourish but not too much, very soft carbo resulting in a thick, fat, ’coating’ mouthfeel the way any imperial stout should have, after which I am plunged into an abyss of creaminess, ’chocolateness’ and caramel in its purest, most enticing form, leaving a thick layer of bittersweet maltiness - and an impression of pure and simple awe. Finishes in persisting creamy maltiness, the creamy feeling clearly achieved by the oatmeal, along with a delicate roasted coffee bean bitterness, a deep but noble, peppery hops presence, remaining candi syrup sweetness which somehow manages to avoid cloyingness, and of course the expected drying wood tannins as well as bourbon-like alcohol; both remain noble and restrained, rounding off the finish in the most gentle, aristocratic way. A creamy, oily coating sticks to the mouth cavity after swallowing. This is an imperial stout the way I like them most: every component is in perfect balance with the overall flavour profile, thus forming a dense, coherent whole. There is no sticky sugariness after swallowing, the added bourbon does not result in astringent alcohol, there are no shoe polish, varnish, glue or otherwise ’chemical’ components in the aroma and there is enough drought to perfectly balance the big, creamy malt sweetness. Undoubtedly a world class masterpiece, not even exagerratedly expensive considering its quality, at least in comparison with some of the over-hyped American examples of the style. Truly majestic and certainly among the best barrel-aged stouts I had so far.
4.3 Bottle from Vinspecialisten, Aalborg. Black with a small dark brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and bourbon. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and roasted rather bitter finish with warming alcohol. Oily, soft and smooth. 180615
