3.8 37,5cl Bottle @ Mikkeller Webshop, Copenhagen, Denmark. Hazy golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma is malt, dried fruits, boozy. Taste is malt, sweet, prunes, white grapes, boozy, slightly yeasty. Full body, soft carbonation.
3.9 Tap at Hathor. Very sweet-seeming nose, full of concentrated stone fruit, grain, and wet sugar lumps.Medium amber/blonde color. Deep sweet stone fruit, candi sugar, and a sourish tinge in mid palate. This hides the alcohol in the flavor, for sure; but it is of course extremely warming. Seems like a supercharged tripel rather than a barley wine. Very interesting.
4.1 Misty golden colour, floating yeast particles, small white head. Aroma: honey, biscuit, Pear, apricot, yeast that reminded me of Belgian strong ales. Full body. Soft carbonation. Taste: medium sweet, pear and apricot, warming alcohol. Light bitterness. Very interesting. Not like a barley wine. Would describe it as a strong tripel.
3.7 Copenhagen 26/10 2019. 37,5 cl bottle from Mikkeller Web-shop. Yellowish label which looks like a Wanted poster. But mixing a Keith Shore drawing with some more naturalistic artwork. I get the feelin i am on a long winding road which have included some "Bad", some "Worse" and some "Worst". Now it has mutated even further. Pours unclear, golden yellow with a medium-sized white head. Settles as thin, but lumpy layer of foam not able to cover the surface of the beer. Clinging to the sides of the glass. Substantial lacing. Aroma is malty with strong sourish notes and a overwhelming presence of alcohol. Pale malts, grains, bread, caramel. Sharp, sourish, hop-infused notes. Light carbonation. Medium thick, oily, sticky, almost flat texture. Flavor is heavy sweet. Followed by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is powerful, sweet and boozy. Lingering. Vinous in the meaning of the word that relates to Dessert Wine. Sweet firm Malty backbone but with sufficient balance not to make it cloying.
3.8 Lys brun lett tåkete med hvitt skum. Luktersvisker, karamellfudge og åker. Fyldig. Søt. Svisker, rosiner, alkohol og noe røkt trevirke. Lang.
3.4 Bottle. Pours light copper golden with a white head. Aroma of caramel, light dried fruits, loads of hops - slight citrusy and fruity. Taste is rather sweet, some strong alcohol, some caramel and light toffee, light dried fruits again loads of hops - quite bitter. rather carbonated for a BW.
Mnja.
3.3 Bottle from MBC. Golden color, white head. Bittwrsweet taste with citrus, resin, caramel, ripe fruits, pine, toffee and dried fruits. Bittersweet finish with citrus, resin, honey, toffee, dried fruits, pine and ripe fruits. Okay barley wine.
3.4 Bottle from mikkeller beer mail. Pours a golden colour beer with a medium head. Malty and sweet with notes of dried fruits and ripe banana. Dry finish.
3.2 Tap @ Mikkeller Bar, Helsinki. Poured amber and clear with a thin white head. Plummy sweet, notes of honey and rye. Quite boozy as expected. Sweet and malty with plums and boozy finish.
3.3 0,1l on tap @ Mikkeller Helsinki. Pours cloudy golden with a medium head. Aroma is sweet malts with some alcohol. Flavor is very sweet malts with some metallic alcohol and hops. Quite boozy. Not as good as the flavored versions.
3.1 Bottle. Hazy golden color with a medium thin foamy white head. Aroma of wheat, candy, bubblegum and peach. Very sweet taste, some sourness. Medium body.
4.0 Sample during Blarney Wine Festival 2019 on 03/16/2019. Slightly hazy bright bronze color with a medium frothy eggshell white head that recedes gradually to a film. Sparse strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of fruit, malt, yeast and spice. Full-bodied with flavors of floral yeast, spice, grainy malt and grapes. The finish is candied fruits and yeast. Good beer overall.
3.5 Couleur dorée légèrement ambrée et bien limpide. What ? C'est un Barley Wine ça ? Mousse grossière, légère et très éphémère. Nez un peu ragoutant... Fermier qui pue un peu. En bouche... WOW !
4.2 On tap @Mikkellerbar Aarhus Pours golden clear, with medium white head. Scent: alcoholic, sweet, honey. Taste: Honey, sweet, sugar, caramel. Texture: medium-high co2, Soft, nice.
4.5 27 September 2018. Birthday Antwerp Pub Crawl - cheers to Anke! At Kulminator. Pours clear orange with a lasting, small, unstable, foamy, off-white head; some lacing. Intense & rich aroma of (canned) peach & pineapple, pineapple juice, white sugar, honey even, faint earth & wet leaves, fruit liqueur (massive Cointreau), white rum, vanilla, fruity sorbet, bourbon. Taste is heavy fruity sweet, (canned) peach & pineapple again, apple & honey too, vanilla & something vaguely sorbet-like in the back; there are sourish fruity tones too and a light spicy bitterness with a woody accent, but probably more due to the alcohol already warming up the palate. Malty, spicy finish, very, very faintly grassy or peppery hoppy, more importantly very boozy with warming (literally so, this burns your esophagus but in a good way) Grand Marnier or Cointreau alcohol. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Never tasted something like this before, let alone at 15.4% ABV; Struise's Stille Nacht might have come close. Fortunately this was served in a 10cl glass, but I could have had some more...
5.0 Earlier Rating: 9/5/2018 Total Score: 5
4.1 Wersja z Kulminatora. Fajny owocowy aromat, dosc jasne, bardzo słodkie. Alkoholu w ogole nie czuć.
4.3 W aromacie kwiatowe, owocowe, sporo miodu, ale przyjemnego. Pachnie trochę jak braggot. Alkohol dobrze ukryty. Jedno z lepszych bw jakie piłem
3.9 Sampled at The King's Head Pub in Portland, Maine. Golden colour with a clean white cap and great lacing. Beautiful mild sour nose with lots fruitiness going on. Belgian notes, slightly yeasty and vinegar hints disappear. Sweet tasting with some nicely balanced bitterness, loads of fruits, caramel and alcohol warmth. A nicely blended barleywine, between sweet fruitiness and hoppy bitterness, dryness.
3.7 5oz glass at The King's Head Pub, Portland, ME. Beer list rates it at 15.7%. Pours a nice small foamy white head and has a fairly clear golden appearance. Decent dirty lacing. Aromas are sweet candi notes, buttery and hints of caramel malt. Flavours are sweet and malty, a little bit syrupy, sugary, some subtle notes of rum. Somewhat of a dry finish. For a high abv brew, still pretty enjoyable.
3.1 Mikkeller NYC bottle: pours dark gold with a white head. Aroma is largely boozy, fruity, sugary. Taste is sweet, with very little hoppiness. Booze is about well covered as it could be. Hefty as all hell. Not my favourite.
3.6 Bottle. Blonde. Malt, canned peach and soft floral notes in the aroma. Malty sweet very fruity flavor. Floral, grapes, champagne, citrus, canned peach. Alcoholic, some remaining hop character. Surprisingly nice.
3.4 Uzupełnienie profilu notatki. Piana skąpa, krążek, i taki pozostaje do końca degustacji. Kolor żółty zmętniony z pływającymi kłaczkami drożdżowymi. Aromat przyjemne świeże owoce, truskawki, poziomki, lekko kwaskowy, winny ale i słodowy słodki, bardzo przyjemny. Smak podobnie jest pełnia słodowa, wyraźna słodycz, czerwone owoce, mandarynki, drożdże, nuty korzenne. Niestety na finisz wchodzi ostra gryząca alkoholowa goryczka, i ona zaburza degustacje piwa. Było by bardzo dobrze jest jedynie dobrze.
3.8 American style barley wine ale, schenkt helder gouden met witte kraag. aroma van graan, tarwe, sinaasappel, appeltjes, fruitig. Smaken zijn mega zoet, glad, alcoholisch, fruitig, champagnegist, redelijke co2, enorm alcoholisch, grand marinier, honing, toch wel vreemde unieke en ook wel lekkere smaken, maar 't is even wennen. over-all best ok.
3.4 27.5cl bottle at home. Pours a clear orange golden colour with a medium off white head which slowly recedes to a thin layer. Aroma of yeast, citrus, spices, coriander, orange, alcohol, slight tropical fruit. Taste is very sweet, low bitter with a medium dry finish. Notes of pale malt, yeast, citrus, spices, alcohol, sight fruity. Texture is thick and creamy, full bodied with soft carbonation
3.3 Pours hazy bronze with a white head. Aroma of brown sugar, dark bread and dark fruit. Taste is heavy sweet and medium bitter.
