Mikkeller Black Hole

Mikkeller Black Hole

Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

3.8 Butelka, leżakowane ok. dwóch lat. Piwo czarne, obfita drobna piana i potężny lacing. W aromacie ciemne słody, karmel, nuty owoców i miodu, palone słody.
3.8 Pours black with small, tan head. Aroma is molasses, roast and some booze. Taste is chocolate and toffee, opening to licorice, roast and some hops. Finish is roast with a slight alcohol burn. A very good stout.
4.0 I want to love this beer....especially for what I paid, but I just can't. It's a solid IPS, but not one of the best that I've had. Still waiting to try that DFH World Wide Stout I'm aging to eventually compare. This is one of the blackest beers I've had.....even more so than Stoudt's Fat Dog. No head whatsoever....it's simply thick oily mud. The aroma is soy sauce, can smell a little coffee/espresso, etc. in there, but it really isn't that great to me (although a lot of beers in this style are sour like this...and I love stouts and porters..so I accept that). Anyways, the 13.5% is a +, as I am rambling away so must be doing something good :). Flavor is very robust, almost overwhelming with all kinds of goodies and sharp alcohol bite....although not too bad for 13.5%. Goes away though with a sweet malty oil that lingers on the palet, followed by decent hop end. I am just about done sipping my 2nd half of the bottle, and liking it more towards the end (flavor not quite a 9).....but still....for the $$$ and what it is........I'd say just ehhh.
3.7 Bottle - Rich dark molasses and roast. Jet brown with a decent light brown head. Dark molasses, roasty sweet and boozy notes with a long sticky finish.
4.0 Rating #2500. 375ml bottle shared with Farees and Jamey. BB 2018-04-03 (5 years). Pours a very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, inky, a bit sweet. Taste is sweet, roasted malt, fruitiness. Good one.
3.5 2014 edition, on tap at Mikkeller & Friends in Copenhagen. How much more Mikkeller can you get than that? Has a very modest head and pure brown-black body. Smells of roasted grape juice, soft wood veneer and cheap corner store milk chocolate. Flavour is soft ruby red wine, hints of rhubarb, sweet finish. Could be more interesting, yet drinkable and that 13% is nowhere to be seen. Yet, I’ve had better big imperial stouts than this.
5.0 Maravilhosa! A cremosidade da espuma perfeita! Corpo especialmente alto e ao mesmo tempo delicado! Assim como o equilíbrio entre o duçor e o amargor!
4.8 Tap at koolkeg. Dark black pour. Opaque. Brown head. Crazy rich malty nose. Roast, pepper, wood, dark chocolate. Full bodied. Rich chocolate flavor. Crazy rich chocolate light wood, alcohol warmth in the finish. Vanilla. Very smooth.
3.1 Tap. Niestety dosyc rozpuszczalnikowo-aldehdyowe. Poza tym mocno palony imperialny stout.
2.8 11.12.2017, 0,375l bottle (bottled 01.07.2008) sampled @ BBGTC tasting: No head. Aroma is slightly sweet mineraly, weeds, minerals, booze, bark, dark sugar, burnt coffee, burnt caramel, chocolate, hay. Taste is sweet mineraly, dark sugar, weeds, ashes, minerals, burnt sour coffee, alcohol, bark, licorice, mocha. Medium bitterness, sweet and slightly harsh mineraly mouthfeel. Fair enough, way better fresh.
4.0 Lekkere Stout maar niet super byzonder, dronk er een struise black Albert na en die won
3.9 0.375 l bottle from 'drankgigant.nl', best before February 2020 so 2015 vintage I guess, cellared for a year. Pitch black with a beautiful, medium large, frothy and slightly creamy, stable, dark beige head. Intense, sweetish-malty, moderately roasty and slightly fruity-resiny aroma of dark chocolate, licorice, coffee, dark and tropical fruits as well as hints of pine and some alcohol. Rather sweet, moderately roasty-bitter, malty, slightly fruity-resiny taste of dark chocolate, coffee, lots of licorice, dark fruits, tropical fruits, pine and a touch of honey, followed by a very long, intensely roasty-bitter, boozy and resiny finish. Full body, creamy to oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very intense stuff, hardly balanced and a bit too much of the alcohol detectable, but then also a nice slow sipper for the cold days.
1.8 From Mar 2008 I got this in a trade with RustyDiamond. Thanks Rusty! This pours from foil wrapped, caged and corked 12.7oz bottle a pitch black with a 1 finger head of tannish foam. Good lacing. The smell has notes of roasted malt, fruit, alcohol, and something else in the background. The taste is very strong! Roasted malt, berry flavours, and a huge alcohol presence. I can't taste any coffee or at least, it's not strong enough in flavour for my palate to be noticeable. Damn that alcohol. Burning in the throat and very warming after the swallow. There goes the drinkability for me. Further tiny sips in and I think I'm getting some molasses and some candy sugar and a weird flavour that's putting me off even more(?) than the alcohol? There's also a somewhat citric sour taste that's just starting to show up. Ok, I just can't finish my glass...the flavours here are a real mess, imho, and the alc is just *too* much. Other notes: The body is on the thin side, the carbonation is light and it finishes on the sour(not in a good way) side. This will definitely be a one of for me.
3.5 Appearance: black with small head. Aroma: coffee, chocolate, vanilla, alcohol. Good enough. Taste: coffee, alcohol, roast, vanilla. Boring and too boozy.
4.0 Bottle from Yes! 5-18-17
3.8 375 ml. bottle. Pours black with a nice tan head. Aroma of coffee, malt, and vanilla. Taste is coffee, roasted malt, vanilla, dark fruit, and alcohol. Very good.
4.1 Bottle from April 2014. Full bodied. Pitch black. Lots of coffee, chocolate, sweet fruits, roast and some red fruits. Sweet with a bitter finish. Quite a beast of a stout. The ageing mellowed it a bit out but that's not a bad thing. Very good!
3.7 Fajny solidny risik bez udziwnień. Team goryczka, ale to dobrze. Naprawdę przyjemny
4.3 Good beer! Full aroma, little bit boozy but is good for 13.1. What if this beer is not to beer geek series? Its awesome! Its underrated i think. It has interesting aroma to stouts, it is different. Coffee full, bourbony, choco full and something interesting in it. Something deep to this beer, like, black hole...
4.1 375ml bottle from Prairie Trail Hy-Vee, in a Sam Smith pint glass. Deep, rich, wonderful aromas of caramel and butterscotch, cinnamon, nutmeg, aged oak, damp earth, medium-roast coffee and warm milk, with a hint of apricot hiding in there too. Pours pitch black with almost three fingers of pillowy caramel-colored head and copious effervescence clinging to to the glass. Nice spider-webby lacing leaves the glass looking appropriately wicked. Light and creamy on the entry with roasty espresso moving in quick for balance. Mostly sustains that flavor combination into a long finish that tempers the roast with a bit of honey sweetness hinted at on the label, with the slow burn of that 13% ABV hitting bottom. Astonishingly light-bodied for a roasty dark beer, thanks to the inclusion of the vanilla. Uncommonly good carbonation for bottled Mikkeller beer, very easy to drink. A very fine brew. The only disappointment being that the flavor doesn't quite equal the nose, as is so often the case. A pleasant experience at any rate. Cheers!
3.8 OMBF. W aromacie typowo i bez rewelacji, czekolada i kawa. Ale konkretnie. Obfita, beżowa piana, zostawiająca ślad na szkle. W smaku wytrawne, agresywne, zdecydowanie wybija się paloność, to lubię. Odrobina miodu na finiszu.
3.6 OMB kran. Kawa, czekolada, dużo słodów palonych, stosunkowo wytrawne, ciała mogło by być więcej, dobre, ale mimo wszystko trochę ubogie, niewyraźne.
3.3 Pite na One More Beer Festival 2017 2 września Kraków Czuć ten miód w aromacie, czuć też mokrego psa i kawę. W smaku mocno palone, kwaśne, gryzące
3.1 Rami Rami is drinking a Black Hole by Mikkeller at One More Beer Festival Jablko :( i dosc agresywny. Poza tym spoko aleeeeee
3.8 Together with Yves at his home black colored body with an off white head and with a roasted malt hop herby coffee aroma a roasted malt hop coffee caramel alcholic sweet bitter taste with an alcholic bitter finish
4.1 Shared with wim at my home. Black colored beer with medium brownish head and no carbonation. Roasted malty fruited alcoholic aroma. Full creamed palate. Finish is fruited malty bit sour.
4.3 Deep black beer with a dark beige head. Roasted coffee and sweet berries on the nose with a hint of vanilla. Very soft mouth feel. Kinda woodsy, lots of sweetness, kinda like raspberries and smooth medium roast coffee. Silky texture. This beer is marvelous.
3.9 A positive surprise. A dry - toned down version of regular black. Dry and roasty.
4.2 Bottle Bought back in utrecht, have been on my shelf for 6 months. Pours pitch Black with tiny lasting beige head. The aroma is intense, dark fruits, coffee, caramel, vanilla. Taste is sweet and complex. Roasted malts, caramel, coffee and vanilla. Slow bitter ending, with long lasting aftertaste. Lovely beer!
4.3 Aus der Flasche 2015-12 getrunken. Fettes Teil! Röstnoten/Bitterkeit sind hier auch sehr gut durch den Honig aufeinander abgestimmt. Nur der Alkoholgehalt ist leicht spürbar. Aber immer noch ein Traum von einem Stout.
