4.1 shared bottle. poured dark black with a small tan head. dark roasted malts, oats, red fruits, dark bitter chocolate, oak, hints of wine. some vanilla, enjoyed it!
4.0 Bottle sampled at Classic City Brew Fest 2014. Pours a deep brownish black with minimal head. Aroma is much like the original with hints of earthy wood and dark fruit. Tannic taste but still very roasty, somehow the booze is better hidden. Good stuff.
4.0 Backlog. Bottled at Green Lion. Dominated by coffee and chocolate with some mint, licorice and anise.
4.0 bottle, well aged. black pour, rather flat. red wine tannins were very evident, beer appeared to soak up a good dose of the wine even when pouring it. red hues in the black. coffee, roast, red wine, booze. imprressed it stood up this well
4.0 Dark pour, light brown head. Nose is dark chocolate, coffee, sweet honey. Sweet honey and coffee. Red wine oakiness. Really smooth.
3.7 sample at Classic City Beer Fest. Black pour. Dark dark fruits, red wine tannins, dark cocoa, quite bitter, some licorice, thick molasses. Heard they were retiring these, so glad I got to try.
4.1 NOTE to all brewers, please stop using synthetic corks ! Bottle @ home Pours dark brown . As good as no head, and what it does have, fades instantly . Smell is very full, oaty, bitter . Some oak and wine, but not too much . Very low carbo ( almost none ) Bitter, chocolate-intense taste , chocolate gets rediculously intense after the bitterness fades . To be honoust, the barrel is very hidden in this one . Yet it is an awesome beer, as I absolutely love chocolate .
3.7 (Bottle) Black colour with brief, foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of black coffee, liquorice, black-currant, oak wood, dark chocolate, soy sauce and aromas of red wine. Roasted, malty taste with black coffee, black-currant, blackberries, liquorice, anise, soy sauce, red wine and oak wood. A slight tannin sourness shining through in a finish with a certain alcohol glow. Quite bitter. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Not quite as balanced as some of the other Black Holes, but still a nice one.
3.9 Pours mostly unclear with no head. Aroma is the best part, bringing huge complex notes of all of it, wine, roasted malts and chocolate, vanilla, and booze. Flavor is similar, but the booze is very pronounced and spicy combined with the wine. The flavors of vanilla and chocolate are so delicious on the palate and much more pronounced as the temperature goes up and booze settles.
4.0 2/II/14 - 37.5cl bottle @ the train back home from Brugs Bierfestival - BB: 18/III/14 (2014-170) Thanks to Yarric for sharing the bottle! Note: huzzah, my first train rating! :p Clear dark brown beer, no head. Aroma: lots of caramel, vanilla, mocha, burnt sugar, sweet, alcohol. MF: soft to no carbon, full body. Taste: pretty bitter, dark chocolate, mocha, burnt caramel, little hoppy, vanilla. Aftertaste= more vanilla, little sourish, bitter hops, coffee, alcohol, sweet, dark chocolate, hoppy, quite an alcohol burn.
4.1 Many thanks Yarric for sharing. Sample at Brugs Bierfestival 2014. Shared with Mathieu87. APPEARANCE: pitch black beer, little to no foam. NOSE: chocolate, coffee, vanilla. TASTE: chocolate, coffee, alcohol, some red wine noticeable. Expiration date: 18/3/2014
Smaker bare surt. Svartvin? Tanninene fra fatet ødelegger et godt øl.
3.7 Bottle. Black body with tan head. Dry dark chocolate, dry wood, vanilla aromas. Smooth full body. Sweet dark chocolate flavors with honey, dry wood, vanilla, and deep roast maltage___nice stout.
3.1 Bottle. 13.1%. Best before 18.03.14. Pours almost black with a small, quickly disappearing greyish-brown head. No lacing. Heavy aroma; dark fruits, a bit oxidized, somewhat dusty and a bit of wood deep down. Flavour is tart, almost sour, and bitter; rather (red) wine-like, but at the same time it has a cold coffee feel to it (without an actual coffee note). Dark fruit note as well. Finish is tart/sour with dark fruits, more wine/cold coffee (without coffee), tobacco, an alcohol burn and a lingering burnt note, the latter diminishing as it warms. Overall so-so. The aroma is rather good, but the flavour doesn’t really hold up; too tart/sour, and the cold coffee note feels misplaced. 04.01.14.
4.3 Bottle from Voldby Købmandsgaard. Black colour with a beige head. Roasted malts, coffee, caramel, slight chocolate, nuances of red wine. Complex beer with nice warming alcohol. Soft carbonation. Great imperial stout.
3.9 Bottle. Blaxk with a nice beige head. Aroma and flavour of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, oak, caramel and notes of hops.
4.2 Bottle from Voldby Købmandsgaard - pours a black dark reddish colour. With a small beige head. Aroma and taste of roasted malts, caramel, red wine tinged woody nuances, slight coffee and choc, berry type fruits. Complex, slick, vinous with a good subtle boozeyness in the finish. Beautiful.
4.3 375ml bottle @Cimmeria, Oviedo. Shared with angel77. Pours black with nice tan head. Some head retention and lacing. Roasty, coffee, somw wood and tart aromas. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Taste is coffee, roasty, wood, some wine acid flavours. All flavours are well integrated, from the very beggining. Ends more like liquor/wine, more dense than the white wine edition. Really enjoyable,
3.1 Bottle thanks to mora2000....Pour is dark black with no head..Nose is oxidation, chocolate, heavy red wine, grape, barrel, oak...Taste is heavy red wine, wet oak, chocolate, flat, oxidation, dry..
4.2 Sample at the "Far Out! Space-themed beer tasting" on 10/01/2013. Pours an opaque black color with a medium frothy light brown head that diminishes gradually. Patches of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of dark chocolate, wood and dark fruit. Full-bodied with a subtle vinous character and flavors of semisweet chocolate, roasted malt and a bit of black licorice. The finish is roasty with a chocolate and oak aftertaste. Good beer all around.
3.6 Corked 37.5 cl bottle @ home. Pours black with some sediment and a tiny tan head that leaves no lacing. Aroma is chocolate, liquorice, vanilla, red wine, and roasted malt. Flavour is much like the aroma – with some warming alcohol and a bitter finish.
3.7 Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate roasted dark malt, tannic wood and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy dark roasted sweet flavor with medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid beer.
4.1 Sample from a 12.7oz bottle. Dark brown color. Minimal khaki head. Bits of lace. Great red wine, coffee, vanilla aroma. Bigger body. Very light carbonation. Nice light chewiness. Bigger bitter taste, light sweet. Alcohol is well-hidden. Great stuff. Very light carbonation, but very delicious.
3.7 750 ml bottle to taster. Looks good; a dark cola with tan lacing. Smells good too; dark malt, chocolate, and red wine. Tastes like it smells with some oak, but less balanced. Average on the palate. Good, not great.
2.3 Almost black in colour. Aroma of port, red wine, caramel and some malt. Similar taste. Tannins in aftertaste.
3.5 Bottle 0,375l at Mikkeler, Copenhagen. Pours a black colour. Head disappeared quickly. Aroma of red wine, coffee, dark malt and oak. Taste of wine, nicely meshed with coffee and a subtle bitter chocolate.
