3.3Purchased at Ledgers in Berkeley. 2011 Vintage. Aroma has light roasty chocolate notes initially, before a sweet, boozy tequila note takes over. The tequila is strong. Opaque black body with a small, quickly dissipating light tan head present. Starts a bit sweet, before this becomes pretty thin, tinny, and a bit astringent in the middle. Finishes with a little tequila flavor, but mostly just sort of thin, watery, and metallic throughout. It’s ok, but not $1/oz good.
3.8Bottle share. Almost black, ruby edges, thin oatmeal colour cap leaving a thin blanket. Aroma of tequila, wood, chocolate, prune, molasses, leather. Taste is sweet, and slightly sour. Smooth drinking from low carbonation.
1.8Plenty of tequila in the aroma. A lot of tequila also in the flavour. A little sweet. Very unbalanced!
3.6Draught at BAJT cons 2013-10-20 Göteborg
AR: sugary syrup, chocolate, coffee, wee tequila

F: extremt sugary, tequila, pine cones, brown rock sugar, coffee, chocolate, juniper berries/gin cocktail, lemon meat bitternees
3.5Bottle shared with Simonsen, edvard & daje
Black, thin tanned head. Smells of pine cones, menthol, coffee and malts. Heavy sweet, some nasty tequila, pine and coffee. I had no expectations about this one; tequila is the booze of the devil. Still, not all that bad. The aroma was very nice
4.3Jet black colour, firm tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, wood, wooden barrel notes. Sweet flavour, mocha, vanilla, alcohol, light tequila barrel notes. Finish coffee, mocha, vanilla and malts. I love tequila so I had to buy a bottle when I saw one, but damn, it does deliver. Nice!!

4.3Sample at the "Far Out! Space-themed beer tasting" on 10/01/2013. The beer pours pitch black with a medium thick khaki head that diminishes gradually. Sticky rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and a bit of soy sauce. Full-bodied with flavors of dark chocolate, oak, honey and subtle tequila. The finish is burnt malt and dark fruit. Not being much of a tequila fan, I was a little surprised to find I liked this treatment the most of all the ones we tried. Very good all around.
4.0Flaske fra esp0r. Drukket på hytta til dag. Svart farge. Beige skumrand. Lav karbonert. Mørkbrent malt, kaffe, tre. Hod. Søtlig smak men men mangøer fylde
3.437.5 cl bottle @ home. Pours black with a lot of sediment and a tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is minerals, tequila, roasted malt, and coffee. Flavour is much like the aroma – with some warming alcohol and a bitter finish.
3.912th January 2013
Opaque black beer with a big fluffy tan head. Mild tequila on the snout along with a touch of wood. Palate is soft, airy and semi dry. Sweet tequila turning miore acrid - earthy and vaguely citric. A little lactose and a trace of smoke. Finishes smooth and semi dry. The tequila and dark malts marry up well here.
4.1Bottle sampled @ decadent symmetry tasting. Nose of chocolate, coffee, barrel. Black with lace. Flavor is sweet chocolate, tequila, spice, pepper. Sweet and spicy, licorice, cinnamon. Great flavor. Silky body. Lovely.
4.1Bottle shared by Mike for our final toast to Doug before moving
Black with a medium sized tan head and some lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, tequila, fruity, woody and vanilla. Flavors of vanilla, roasted malts, woody, dark fruit some hot alcohols
Very nice and tasty.
4.0So after helping me move, Mike just had to crack a beer. Thanks a ton man! The Utah crew is second to none. I’m glad to have played a part, and I will always do so! Anyway, pitch black small white head. Awesome tropical fruit and barrel nose. Big flavor of heat, barrel, huge tropical tequila, chocolates, figs. Damn good.
4.0Poured from a 375 ml bottle, thanks to Mike. Notes of chocolate, tropical fruits, caramel, ash. Very tasty version of this stout.
3.9June 2011. From bottle. Pours black with a being head. Licorice aromas with dark roasted malt and oak. The barrel ageing adds a bit of sweetness, but I’m not sure if I like this one better over the original Black Hole. definitely a winner no matter how you look at it.
4.0On tap at Holy Grale, Louisville.
Black pour with a sticky tan head. Tons of lacing.
Roasty malt, raisins, and tequila in the nose.
Really sweet, much more than the white wine barreled expression. Lots of raisin in the flavor, black currant, and a nice taste of tequila in the finish.
Rich, full mouthfeel. Lots of alcohol in the finish.
Very interesting, but a little sweet. Tasted side by side by side with the site wine and peat whisky expressions.
4.3Bottle. Pitch black with quickly fading head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, tequila, wood and some alcohol. Taste was similar but very very sweet. The wood/tequila notes was great with this beer, nice.
3.6Pitch black with dark tan head. Nose is fruity tequila, booze, slight sherry oxidation, mild soy, and silky roasted/coffee malt. Barrel/sherry/soy combo almost reminds me a tinge of pickle juice. Flavor is an even match fruity tequila barrel with chocolate and roasted malt. While not overpowering, the tequila is the dominant player. Some dry wood tanin and silky roast towards the end of the finish. Alcohol well masked. Medium road palate. A fairly decent beer with price point that makes it not worth it.
4.1A - Dark brown-black with a finger of frothy chocolate colored head. Fades at a normal pace.
S - Dark chocolate and dark caramel malts, roasted coffee, molasses, black licorice, oak, agave, tequila, vanilla, some dark fruit, and some booze.
T - Dark chocolate and sweet dark caramel malts, roasted coffee, black licorice, molasses, oak, tequila, agave, some vanilla and dark fruit, some citrus and pine hops and a bit of bitterness, and some booze.
M - Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with a warming and sweet finish.
D - Nicely balanced big imperial Stout. Nice body and mouthfeel. The tequila adds some nice complexity.
4.0Aroma is malts, vinous notes and mild sweetness. The flavor is malts, vinous/dark fruit, an undercurrent of sweetness and a tangy/tart finish.
4.0Bottle. Rating #164. Thanks Gabe! Really good beer, nice, subtle agave and a little wood. Rich dark fruits and a sweet light roast. I really enjoyed this beer. (2563)
4.1Best before 09/05/15, brewed 4y before
Black color, small sized brown head. Roasted malt aroma, quite mellow, with floral touch. Round mouthfeel, good flavor of chocolate and some roasted malt, moderate pleasant sweetness, and just a trace of alcohol.
Balanced, harmonious.
4.0Aroma: The smell is dark and burned, candid sugar, soy and dried peas.
Appearance: The brew is blackish brown, a small tan head, little lacing and good curtains.
Taste: A taste of burnt bread, ripe tropic fruits, mango and similar, a warm concluding bitterness.
Palate: Little carbonation, asoft and sticky feeling, a good body and warm dryness.
Overall: A nice black one, with a good spicy finish.
Note: On-tap at De Klomp tasting. Reviewed 2012-01-07.
4.3Really nice variation with the tequila here on this one...slightly more thought provoking and complex than the other versions I’ve had (scotch, bourbon, and cognac). Lots of carbonation and thick slow fading head with sticky lacing. Dark as night. Tequila seems to bring out the honey much more than other treatments and moves this to greener more vegetal characteristics. The bourbon and cognac versions are more hedonistic and bigger, and the scotch one was way too dominated by the barrel, this one is much more restrained and almost delicate if that is possible for Black Hole. This might be my favorite overall, but depending on my mood and what I’m eating might prefer the bourbon or cognac.
3.7Aged for awhile. Nicely mellowed. Notes of coffee, pronounced sweetness. Lots of tequila. Too much. Interesting idea, just a little heavy handed.
4.7Bottle. Pours pitch black with a medium sized brown head. Aroma of tequila, oak, lime and vanilla. Pretty sweet to the taste, tequila, root cellar, vanilla, chocolate, lime and licorice. Full body, low carbonation. Amazing beer!!!
4.2Draught. Pitch black. Agave aroma with vanilla and oak. Very rich, but rounded and soft. Clearly high in alcohol, but rich enough to withstand. Very nice.
3.8375ml bottle in a snifter. Pours black with a thick, lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee, tequila, and floral hops. The flavor of the beer is the same as the other Black Holes, and the tequila blends better than some of the wines but not as well as the whiskeys. Smooth texture. A good beer.
3.8Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a reddish black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted and produced fair lacing. Medium to heavy toasted malt, Tequila and wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy complex toasted sweet spice alcohol flavor with a medium to heavy toasted sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Complex good brew.
2.1Pours black in color with minimal head. Heavy tequila aroma on this. Lots of wood, grass, and roasted malt. A noticeable green apple note, some booze, and a bit of carbonic acid. Sugary, sickly sweet, with burnt sugar. Heavy on the roasted malt and tequila. Lots of wood and grass and green apple. A little bit of a cigarette flavor to it as well. This was pretty rough stuff.
