Mikkeller Draft Bear

Mikkeller Draft Bear

Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium.

’Fad bamse’ is a highly hopped and dry hopped imperial pilsner with a light body and lovely crispyness from the lager yeast.

A Danish pilsner is typically characterized by an alcohol content of 4,6% vol., piss-yellow colour and a sexless, slightly bitter taste. But it doesn’t have to be like this…! Draft Bear is Mikkellers interpretation of a ’pilsner’, heavyweight-style. With its powerful hop notes, high alcohol content and lovely golden appearance, the only reference to the pilsner style is the clean taste of the lager yeast.

Ingredients :
Water, malts (pils, carapils and amber), light candy sugar, hops (amarillo and cascade) and lager yeast.

3.3 Bottle at Puu in Tallinn. Orange with steady creamy white head. Sweet, herbal, too much honey hints (perhaps from the mix of hops and sugar?). Floral. Hay. Soft on the palate, soft carbonation. Somewhat grainy on the palate. In a way nice.
3.5 330ml bottle. Dark yellow, amber colour. Medium, white head. Maltiness, sweetness, hints of fruit tea, hints of apricots, hints of berries in the aroma. Bitter, fruity at first. Hints of tea. Sweetness. Flowery, fruity. Bit tart and fruity finish. Quite agressive maltiness. Honey-like hints. Rather medium bodied, medium carbonated brew. Descent beer.
3.6 Draught. Hazy orange with white head. Aroma is fruity with passion fruit, orange and some peach, very juicy and fresh. In taste similar with more lychee, medium sweet with moderate bitterness just to counter the sweetness. Medium body, creamy texture, moderate carbonation. Very tasty and drinkable.
3.6 Bottle at home. Clear orange pour with a tall off-white head with good retention. Notes of grapefruit zest, bitter generic hops, pilsner malts, some tropical fruit. Medium bodied with low carbonation and a bitter-sweet finish.
3.4 Nothoing so special. Just a nice beer to drink and enjoy. Quite thick shape and nice features
3.4 Bottle. Pours a clear amber beer with a nice big white head on top. Aroma is very malty, a touch of booze, light grapefruit. Flavor is bittersweet, hoppy and boozy, like a sweeter DIPA. Carbonation is medium, overall quite sweet and malty. Decent pils, long sweet finish. Nice.
3.7 Clear amber. Aroma: sweet orange, grassy, malty. Taste is good blanced, bitter-sweet, malty and hoppt. Flavour: malt, some bisquits, orange, zest, some rotten peaches. Good.
3.9 Bottle from SlackerMads (euro local swap), many thanks! Pours hazy orange with a white head. Fruity aroma with peach, passion fruit, orange. Taste follows with pear drops, lychee and a light maltiness. Medium sweet, light bitterness, slowly increasing to a firm bitterness in the finish. Almost creamy texture, lively carbonation. Nice and clean, deceivingly easy drinker.
3.6 Tap @ Mikkeller Bar, Aarhus. Clear dark golden pour with a frothy head. Notes of grains, sweet syrup, light hoppy, orange zest and some grapes.
3.7 Bottle. Hoppy aroma of citrus, pine and grapefruit. Light malty and yeasty notes. The flavours starts light sweet and finish moderat bitter. The body is medium and the texture is juicy. Not much recogniced pils/lager about it, but good.
3.7 Bottle at home. Aroma is hoppy, strong pale malt, bready, fruity, tropical and piny notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and above moderate bitter. Robust medium body. Exemplary hoppy Strong Pilsener, this is how it’s done!
4.0 Caramel, fruit, flowers and citrus aroma. Not overpowering. Golden colour with an amazing, tall, frothy head. Well balanced, bitterness not overpowering in taste. Fruity after taste. Medium body, slick. This is pilsner done right.
3.9 Bottle. Nice light amber body with nice lasting white head. Aroma is tropical fruits with nice caramel malts and citrus. Taste is fruits and orange and some grains. Aftertaste is nice bitter. Very nice one.

4.8 Pours golden with white head good retention. Hoppy aroma grape and flowers. Taste is very balanced - fruity, hoppy and a dry finish. A beautiful strong pilsner type beer love it
3.7 Colore biondo carico. Poca schiuma. Aroma. Molto frizzantina. Buona imperial pilsner.
3.5 On tsp at Taps mont kiara. Thick creamy white head. Cloudy amber pour. Nice bitterness. Well hidden alcohol.
3.5 on tap at Sloan Sq, Milan. aroma of sweet caramel, flowers, honey. fruity flavour, caramel, honey. a bit ipa-like, but rather sweet.
4.0 330 ml bottle from Gallagher’s Beer World/El Irlandés. Pours a mostly clear amber with a slight haze and a medium white creamy head that diminishes rather quickly and leaves a thin lacing. Aroma is initially hoppy with mild piney and strong citrusy character. A soft malty, grainy, side becomes clearer after a while. Notes of lemongrass, fresh cucumber, lemon zest, a bit of pine, citron and green tea. Softer hints of bread and grains. Characterful and very IPA-like. Taste is freshly bitter, delicious with only traces of sweetness. Moderate to intense, flavorful, but always refreshing. The crisp hoppy bitterness reminds of rough lemonade, fresh herbs, green tea, eucaliptus leaves and lemon. It doesn’t overwhelm and remains fully sessionable. Exquisite. Aftertaste and retronasal are quite intense. Light to medium body with high carbonation. Alcohol completely hidden. Overall it’s a fantastic clean and delicious lager. Highly hopped but easy to drink.
2.9 Taste is funky, floral, herbal, delicate spice, grapefruit, sour, and alcohol finish.
4.0 Rating #1238 - 27.08.2014 - On tap @revolutionyeg. Hazy yellowish amber pour with a lasting white head, thick and frothy. Lots of aromas here, citrusy hoppiness present as well as some caramel, and a spiciness. Taste is bold citrusy hops, tempered with a sweet, bready consistency that disguises the alcohol content. Finish is quite dry, lingering pleasant spicy burn. Gorgeous strong pilsner.
3.8 Pours a clear shinny deep golden with a white head. Aroma is pineapples and tropical frutis. Flavor is same tropical fruitiness with some peach and mango notes, very clear hoppy taste. Gentle bitter finish with a medium to heavy palate but not boozy at all. More of a strong clean IPA to me.
4.8 Purchase if you see this. Stumbled onto a 750mL at the grocery store and knew it was a must buy. Never fail brewery. Great strong lager with perfect flavor. Highly recommended. - pixels sent via Beer Buddy on iOS
3.5 Pours a slighlty clear orange with decent head and lacing. Aroma is slightly fruity and sweet, some hints of grapes. Taste is strongly carbonated, with a slightly stronger sweeter and frutyier taste, followed by a bitter aftertaste but quite short. Grassy notes follow but are also quick to dissipate.
3.5 Draft. Pours a golden orange color. Aroma and taste are light malts and some grains.
3.8 33 cl bottle. Aroma is citrus, malty and hoppy. Also some honey notes. Taste is slightly bitter, fruity and caramel. You can taste alcohol but not too much. A very pleasant beer!
