4.3 250ml bottle. Pours pitch black. Charcoal, caramel, burnt orange peel, huge umami smoke, caramelised apple, brandy heat, oak, vanilla. Huge thick body. Glorious.
4.0 Bottle from trade Brown, thin reddish tan head. Sticky flavor is chocolate cake through mid, thick cake-texture aiding. Also light salt and earth, very little heat until the finish. Some apple taste. Quite nice
4.1 0,33l bottle at home bought from Yeme, Bratislava. BB 30.10.2023. black color, very very small head. smells earthy, bitter chocolate, light booze, wood, light coconut, licorice, light sherry. very nice smell. full body, light carbonation, oily mouthfeel. tastes sweet, licorice, bit earthy, lightly boozy, some oxidation, light dried fruits, some sherry, some bitter chocolate, some wood, light coconut. finishes lightly sweet with notes of wood, sherry and some bitter chocolate notes. maybe not the freshest one anymore, but still very nice, just a tad boozy, very good to drink overall.
3.7 Pitch black. Bottle. Almost no head. At first aroma strikes with calvados - pretty boozy, after strong coffee notes, along with dark chocolate. Taste comes with moderate sweetness with quite noticeable coffee acidity. Medium to full body, thick texture, soft carbonation, finish is coffee, calvados and barrel.
3.7 Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. Mocno alkoholowy aromat, w smaku gęste, mega czekoladowe.
3.7 A: Black coloured with a thin lacing N: Chocolate, light ash, raisin, sherry, sweet dates T: Ash, bitter chocolate, coffee, salted plums (umiboshi) O: Salty, but quite complex. Nice.
4.1 Nice balance between the roasted coffee taste and the Calvados barrel aging.
Calvadosen mer framträdande i smaken, men först en bit in.
4.3 33cl bottle. Pitch black pour with a medium height espresso head. The aroma is dominated by brandy, with additional notes of chocolate, coffee and molasses. The taste follows the same notes, but much more balanced, with milk chocolate, freshly brewed coffee, molasses, a bit of maple syrup, subtle dark cherry bitterness, cocoa, pralines, vanilla, maybe even some cinnamon, and apple brandy. Full bodied, thick and velvety, with a low carbonation and a bitter-sweet and lightly spicy finish.
3.0 Black with no head. Soy sauce, wort, candy apple and licorice. Rough barrel and sweet finish. Rough...
4.0 Huge malt aroma in a thick tar black pour. Amazing sweet licorice and tart vinous chocolate flavours predominate - with subtle hints of coffee and vanilla too. An awesome beer - even after a long weekend of beer festival tastings.
4.0 W aromacie sos sojowy, wanilia, beczka, czekolada i jabłko czytaj calvados W smaku pełne lepiące , dosyć wyraźna gorycz, posmak wyraźnie czekoladowy, kawowy wanilii czyli standard dzordzyk ale jeszcze czuć troche jabłka Podsumowując no solidne ale bourbon najlepszy
4.2 Head to head vs. Mikkeller George! BA Cognac edition: both vintage 2013. Pours black as night clear color with foamy brown head, which immediately transforms itself to a ring around the glass. 3 years old but still intense dark, roasted malts aroma, with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, gorgeous calvados aroma, supported with vanilla...flavor: intense dark malt aroma, with notes mentioned above, but there’s also notes which takes on cacao nibs, dark chocolate, hint of cinnmon, supported with intense calvados flavor, which steps forward in second half, both with oak and vanilla notes. Finish is dry, slightly astringent- tannins...body is full, texture is smooth, carbonation is low. Another Masteriece brewed by Mike Murphy.
4.2 2010. Aromat wanilii, czekolady, kawy, palony, drewno.
3.8 Bottle poured into nosing glass. Pours pitch black oily with only slight brown head. Nose is intense coffee and cocoa strong roasty aroma. Oily, creamy mouthfeel with Overall low carbonation. Taste is roasty alcoholic, burned coffee slight grassy hops and definitely some faint calvados on the tip of the nose. The beer very sticky and heavy in the mouth, definitly a complex but not easy to drink beer...
3.2 Dunkel malziger, intensiv malziger Antrunk. Okay. 8/11/10/9/8/11
4.5 Black liquid with thin brown head and brown froth. Bitter chocolate, roasted coffee beans, vanilla, dark fruits and hints of alcohol in the aroma. It is not easy to dedect calvados. Bitter chocolate at first. Coffee beans, vanilla, dried plums and dark fruits in the middle. Hints of brandy/cognac/calvados in the end. Very rich aftertaste. Oily and silky, heavy bodied, low carbonated, very enjoyable imperial stout. Wow!?
4.1 33cl bottle from etre gourmet. Dark color. Thin brownish head. Low to medium sweetness. Medium bitterness. Medium body. Aroma is fruity, chocolate, roasted. So good!
12,12% iflg. etiketten. Thanks, Mike! Og godt nyttår til alle rb-sjeler.
4.0 October 25, 2015. Bottle at home, best before October 30, 2023. Thick black with a small brown head. Aroma is roasted malts coffee, licorice, dark sugars, oak, dark chocolate and notes dark berries, soy and vanilla. Taste is sweet, roasted bitter and ligjt salty. Finish is salty, soy, ash, bitter chocolate, sweet dark sugars, black berries light oak and vanilla. Medium to full bodied, smooth and creamy texture, soft carbonation. Not much calvados character abd perhaps a bit on the salty and heavy roasted sidet still a good imperial stout.
4.0 Like others note I didn’t really get the calvados coming through but then again I’m not quite sure what I should be looking for there. Quite thick, sweet and viscous in texture with a brown foamy head. Sweet and alcoholic - liquorice, coffee and chocolate all roasted together. Took a while to get through due to the strength and required a glass of water afterwards. But was powerful and punching heavy with flavour.
4.1 My Bottom Line: This viscous Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout develops coffee, chocolate and chipotle-like spicy smoke, as oatmeal and alcohol warmth add even more depth. Further Personal Perceptions: -A ring of foam crowns the pure black. -All flavors are well aligned and harmonious. Yet another quality Imperial Stout with the Mikkeller label. -Coffee appears to be added in here, not a product of specialty malts necessarily. -The mouthfeel is gorgeously rich. -Calvados barrel is not clearly apparent; which isn’t a problem, by the way, as it still contributes to the flavor profile. Bottle.
4.0 A deep dark stout with a very thin dark brown head. In aroma, sweet fruity bitter chocolate with coffee grind, espresso, licorice, herbaceous character, light alcohol warmth, light roasted character, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with light peated notes, light pepper notes, dark fruits and chocolate, coffee grind, loads of alcohol warmth. Bottle from Bièropholie, via MartinT.
3.8 Thick oily dark brown colour with no head. Aroma is salty, there is herbs, roasted malts, some cocoa. Taste is also salty, a bit coffee in there. Maybe toffee, and caramel sweetness. Thick oily body, low carbonation. Calvados isn’t popping up as much as I was hoping.
3.7 Poured into a teku showing pitch black center and thin coffee brown rims with very quick dissipating foam despite an aggressive pour. The nose shows a roasted dark maltiness with a mix of roasted ground coffee. A whisper of vanilla throughout. The palate is medium bodied and very lightly carbonated. The first flavors show a lot of the roasted ground coffee flavors, more akin to espresso. Finish shows more of a dark chocolate bitterness. Oak is felt at the end given a slight brightness to the beer.
4.3 Amazing. Incredibly thick, oily, rich and boozy. Massive burnt treacle, coffee, toffee. Brandy and a hint of apple from the brandy. Amazingly drinkable for such a big beer, avoiding being overly sweet and cloying. Fantastic beer, I’d have a cellar full if it weren’t so expensive.
4.1 From tap. Black color with brown head. Roasted malty aroma, lot of chocolate, some coffee, wood, alcohol, dark fruits. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Full silky body with soft carbonation.
3.9 Bottle shared with Mathieu87. APPEARANCE: black beer, almost no head. NOSE: chocolate, coffee. TASTE: chocolate, coffee, decent.
4.3 Bottle at home, 12th July 15. Pours black, little or no head. Aroma is coffee, caramel, slight brandy, liquor. Taste is rich, coffee, brandy, maybe toffee apple, candy, caramel. Love this, top notch impy!
